Title: Victorian Zombie Apocalypse
Post by: kidterminal on August 10, 2014, 03:10:25 AM
It’s absolutely batty I know but I’ve collected all these Westwind EOTD figures and needed to do something with them.  Ok that’s not the real reason let’s face it’s something that just has to happen. Two things that on their own might not seem like much but when my mind put them together it spit out Victorian Zombie Apocalypse those two things where Westwind’s Victorian Zombie boxed set and the painting of an old figure conversion I made back in 2009 for vampire gaming see photos below.
(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu125/kidterminal/Fiends%20in%20Waistcoats/eotd-05-victorian-zombies.jpg) (http://s640.photobucket.com/user/kidterminal/media/Fiends%20in%20Waistcoats/eotd-05-victorian-zombies.jpg.html)

So Victorian Zombies it is. Now I full realize that I'll have to do a lot of converting to get a zombie horde with a Victorian feel; just last night I was sculpting a bustle onto the Studio Miniatures zombie Bride but I've got a bee in my bonnet I want a Victorian Zombie horde. Here is a picture of the figures i have so far in various stages from finished to needs a lot of work.

As you can see its a miserable handful at the moment I'm hopping the esteemed members of this forum can point out some zombies figures that I can convert into Victorians. Here are a few images of late Victorian dress to go by.

Looking good Robert.  If a person can't have fun with zombies that person just isn't trying hard enough.  Zombies and Victorians… the stuff that dreams are made of.  Richard

I know I'm probably teaching you to suck eggs, but if you just use Victorian miniatures and give them a different skin tone wouldn't they qualify for recently turned zombies, help boost your horde out quicker?

Thanks the bases are hand made here is how I make them http://fiendsinwaistcoats.blogspot.com/2013/04/making-bases.html (http://fiendsinwaistcoats.blogspot.com/2013/04/making-bases.html). and if you need a stamp check this out http://fiendsinwaistcoats.blogspot.com/2014/04/happy-seppuku-base-stamps.html (http://fiendsinwaistcoats.blogspot.com/2014/04/happy-seppuku-base-stamps.html).

I value your comment and yes it would be quicker and Papa Midnight showed how nice they can look, but I'm a stickler for detail I want "shamblers" they need to lean drunkenly, stumble mindlessly... I will be purchasing some Eureka civies to cut up and reposition for that shambler walk. So no quick out for me I'm afraid.

I would like to find out from you lads who have Wargames Factory Zulu Wars British Infantry, Warlord plastic Zulu Wars British Infantry, Perry Bros plastic Confederate Infantry, Mantic Zombies, Mantic Ghouls, Wargames Factory Zombies how do these kits scale up with each other? Could I for instance swap Mantic Ghoul and Zombie heads with Warlord or Perry Bros bodies? Any scale photos or information would be a big help.

Thanks Simon but I have a Mantic figure I don't have any Perry Bros, Wargames Factory or Warlord to compare it with.

The simple answer? Maybe. The Perry plastics and metals match up really well with the Warlord Zulu War British, I don't have the Confederate sets but for using the parts on one another you might get away with it easily. The Wargames British are very "blob" like in most of their sculpt, but you could use the heads on the Warlord bodies with some modding. The Mantic Zombies and Ghouls seem to be slightly larger then the previous mentioned sets, which for one or two figures wouldn't be bad. The nice thing about them is the clothing is basically rags, so one can use them for most any era and could easily sculpt on parts that help define the period. With alot more modding you could get one of their heads onto a Warlord British body, but the head might look to large. I'll play around with it a bit tommorrow. The Wargames Male Zombies do have useable parts, but most are few and far between. If you can get the heads and arms somewere (some eBay store or on the swap meet here) you could use a few of the heads and most of the arms. These do work pretty well on the Wargames British bodies, but I haven't tested them on the Warlord bodies. One of the best upsides to the Wargames British is the pith helmet is a seprate piece, so you can easily glue them onto the zombie heads. If you can get the Studio Miniatures plastic zombies (the Germans or Moderns, the Moderns will yield the most usable parts) those will work like a charm on the Warlord bodies.

If you'd like I can get a picture of my Wargames British, Warlord British, Mantic Zombies, Ghouls, Wargames Zombie, Studio Miniature zombie and a Perry Union officer.

Looking at it and thinking about it, you could get the Zombicide "Walk of the Dead #1" and with sculpting make the dresses a bit longer, maybe mod the suits some on the males and give a few tophats, bowlers, etc.

This is the bride from the Studio Miniatures "Till Death Us Do Part" set she is getting her dress Victorianized (Yup made a new word.) the bustle is beginning to shape up, I need to do something with the veil though maybe give her one of those tiny hats? Well what do you think of the progress?

Nice work on the dress conversion could you not just leave her as a bride? or if you had to modify perhaps add a small hat with some feathers on it.

When I first bought the pack I thought yes, the vicar is fine and the groom is fine, but Victorian Sunday best dresses save for the really poor all had bustles and some sort of sleeve. Once I started researching the dress examples I just couldn't leave it alone. I am thinking a tiny hat feathers are good.

Sorry for the long delay in these photos, been helping a friend build TSATF terrain for a Con.

First picture is all of the “zombie” types together. First is a Perry Civil War officer with a Mantic Ghoul head, the right arm is from the Wargames Factory Set and the left is from the Studio Miniature's zombies. Next is a Warlord/Empress British body with a Mantic Ghoul head( I kinda like it.) The heads work, sorta, but they will need a small putty neck to work right. The next figure is a Warlord body with the studio miniature head and arms. He has a giraffe look going but I think if you trimmed down the head some he'd look better. Even though the arms, to me, look a little long. Lastly is a West Wind EOTD zombie.

(https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/10613114_836994106311184_8488208347435115963_n.jpg?oh=7578787597b1e911c12cba9c6cdfe78b&oe=545E9772&__gda__=1417399291_871ebe4090c736a78de24b784c36cb42)

Second picture is a Wargames Factory British Body with the bits from their male zombie set. His left arm(as all the left arms are sculpted on for some reason) is from the British set, the pith and the gun. The head and right arm are from the zombies. Next to him is a stock Warlord Games Brit with a Mantic Zombie next to them.

(https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpf1/v/t1.0-9/1795667_836994109644517_1135101198454138383_n.jpg?oh=8646fb1c0c39d38be25b6f5824782c08&oe=5474D303&__gda__=1417127874_2102e4b78f52e751c46f270cdd597bb8)

Thrid is the stock Warlord figure with the Perry/Mantic mod thing going.

Fourth is a Mantic zombie with a EOTD figure and lastly the Wargames Factory zombie.

(https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpf1/v/t1.0-9/10626582_836994146311180_8264100482315398333_n.jpg?oh=c1d3146a9ddac52918229a670db0337a&oe=54757D2B&__gda__=1415675713_8b1002f294d966dff7e13dfe942f627d)

And finally is a shot of the Warlord figure with the Mantic zombie.

(https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfa1/v/t1.0-9/10570345_836994149644513_3499419728054162142_n.jpg?oh=364db78dbea9914c599ad20d13a416a4&oe=545CBA54&__gda__=1417354082_b35503468e7873c57bd3945768384a59)

Well I hope that all helps,as I said I'm sorry for taking awhile. Enjoy!

Would the Malifaux rotten belles do the trick?
How about the nude zombies from Tengu?
Otherwise, perhaps fantasy zombies in rags, with the occasional greenstuff flat cap?
Edit: ooh, could anything be done with Eureka's undead Napoleonics?

Yes to most but I'm trying to keep the chaps in rags to a minimum. I've never seen the Eureka undead napoleonics they really have those?

Sorry didn't see the thread earlier, but the Nappy reference made me wonder if something Flintloque wouldn't have been useful...

By the way, anyone who's dabbled in In Her Majesty's Name should know that there's been a zombie handout created.

Quick Horrorclix Mummy repaint.
Mummy goes missing from British Museum!
That was the headline of most Sunday London papers one September Sunday in 1888. After the debris of that horrific episode in the life of the world's greatest city it was discovered that one of the British Museum's prized Egyptian mummies was missing. Yes ladies and gentlemen during the height of the zombie incident of 1888 when zombies roamed the Mall an Egyptian mummy disappeared from the British Museum. The puzzled curator never did discover what became of it. Rumors of it walking amongst the dead where of course discounted.

Man, a few years ago I had Curtis of Ramshackle Games sculpt me a pair of Victorian zombies with crows sitting on their shoulders, picking at their faces.  I never got around to casting them, but I totally should...and then send you a few sets to add to your horde.

In fact, I'm going to be picking up a spincaster in February and will be using those sculpts to do some practice casts.  Hit me up late in February, remind me of this thread, and I'll send you some free minis.
