Title: 28mm Mercenaries
Post by: maxxon on August 27, 2014, 06:38:43 AM
I recently painted the Gripping Beast modern mercenaries I had had lying on my desk for quite a while.

I did them to test out my new Foundry colors. The uniforms are done in MOSS while the webbing is DRAB. The colors turned out perhaps a little too close to each other. More contrast would have been better.

The models are quite nice and have character. I'm especially fond of the guy changing mags -- the spent mag is lying on his base. Unfortunately this is all there is, so building a larger force would result in quite a lot of duplicates.

Very nice work, they don't look too drab to me at all.

Very nice, they look all ready to stage a coup in the Comoros.

They're splendid as they are, quite believably authentic as painted.

Other than the odd splash of colour, or mis-matched bit o'kit, I prefer NOT seeing contrast in modern figures meant to represent present or recent conflicts.

Very nicely done. Useful for all sorts of different settings with the right paint jobs. Seen some nice 'Stalker' groups with these figures in.

Thanks.

Yeah, I know they would work quite well in a single color too. It's mostly that I took the time to paint the webbing separetely but it doesn't really show because the colors are so close.

I usually like to exaggerate contrast in this scale, I feel otherwise there's a tendency for the figures to turn a bit into colored blobs, especially viewed from a little distance.
