Title: BattleTech: Alpha Strike - Hold the Line
Post by: sean_68333 on September 02, 2014, 03:07:22 PM
The Haematite Guard of the Free World’s League has made planet fall on a Draconis Combine planet.  The 2nd Sword of Light was dispatched to bolster the planetary defenses, but by the time they arrived on planet, the Guard had decimated the defending forces.

The Director’s most precious niece, Yugi Kurita, was vacationing on the planet and went into hiding when the attacks started.  Now that it looks like the planet will be lost, the 2nd Sword of Light has been given new orders.  They must hold off the attackers and prevent them from reaching the space port so that the young Yugi can be evacuated off world.

I ran this game at my local game shop in preparation for running it at the Recruits Convention in Lee's Summit, MO in a few weeks.  It played well.  I have a few tweeks to make, and it will be ready to go.  You can see more details and pictures on my blog.  http://gamingandshooting.blogspot.com/2014/09/battletech-alpha-strike-hold-line.html (http://gamingandshooting.blogspot.com/2014/09/battletech-alpha-strike-hold-line.html)

What do you mean we lost an Atlas in the first turn?

It was a pretty bloody battle.  Both sides lost lots of mechs.  The defenders held the line and only allowed a single mech to escape the field of battle.

Hey! As part owner, I officially give permission to name that 'local game shop'.  lol

Not a BT fan, but regret not seeing that in person. I shall call it the Battle of the Flower Gardens...  :D

Thanks, Sean!

Nice, Doug.  In the future I will try to give credit to the store.  FYI... it is Gauntlet Games in Lincoln, NE.

Nice work.  Are those mechs Dipped? I'm considering dipping some mechs myself.

Nope, not dipped, but similar effect.  The Kurita ones (red) where based with white primer, painted white and have a few bits picked out with silver (some have blue on the cockpits).  Then I just used a black wash and went over the whole model.  Not a bad effect.  Simple but a decent look in my opinion.

Same process for the blue models, but I used blue instead of red.

Nice effect!  May I suggest to try a blue wash next time, for both colors.

Thanks for that!. They do look good and tabletop ready.  I'm not even a battletech player, but I've got a bunch of mechs and was thinking about getting them all done in one lot if I can settle on a fast paint method.  I'll probably go with a brush-dip though as I have so much experience with it on 28mm figs.

I've seen alot of really poor paintjobs on mechs, even ones being used by Catalyst Games promo folks.  Often it's just a case of minis that could be saved with a wash and maybe a drybrush, but poorly applied block paintjobs just aren't enough to make them look nice.
