Title: multiplayer games - how many models/units per player?
Post by: jet on August 17, 2008, 12:30:00 AM
So if I were to try and prepare something for my group (three or four players), how many models/units would be typical for starting play. I don't want to buy tons of stuff right away. I was thinking about skirmishing colonial games using the WF plastics that are coming out.

And on a related note, where would one find suitable metal models to represent (potentially larger than life) colonial heroes?

Thanks,
JET

I have played in games where each player had one hero type and 5-6 henchmen types, to games where a player ran a couple of heroe types and 2-3 units of around 10 figures each. As to metal figres you could try Blue Moon or Old Glory, and maybe Brigade.

I find that the best multi player games are the skirmish ones based on the "you move one model, I move one model" engine work best for multiplayer fun. Otherwise it can be a bit annoying if your two opponents decide to go for you, and you have to take two full turns of bashing before you get your one turn of reaction.

Either that, or have two teams against one twice its size, so either two sets of allies vs thier common enemy, or a seige with the larger force in the middle of the board.

Ramshackle, as this is the T&T board, I'm guessing that Jet has already settled on what system he is using, and the question is a T&T-specific one.

I've only played two-player so far, so I don't really have any experience to relate regarding good tips for multi-player.

As for good Colonial character figures, I don't think you can go far wrong with Mark Copplestone, either his own ranges, or the Darkest Africa range he sculpted for Foundry. I haven't seen much that is better.

I think the best is 1 Hero and 3 other units , maby Infantry,Tanks ,Mortars........ .
we play Games with 4 Players till 6 Players but for the 6 Players you need a lot of time.
A good thing is when you give everyone  other victory conditions.
We also play games where two Players with two armys fight aganst two other gamers .
So it is not so hard if someone have bad luck on the dices or loose one unit in the first turn.
for two players I have the best  games TaT when we have 6 units per side .

cheers Grimm
