The picture looks quite interesting.

I'm really, really starting to appreciate Warlord Games. I love the way they go beyond the "plain old" rank-and-filers and command groups, to create peripheral stuff like this. More companies should take after their example.

Having talked to a couple of manufacturers it seems that the reason there aren't more packs of that type is that they rarely turn a profit.

Probably because every buyer only needs one pack as compared to a rank-and-file set of minis...?

But still, this kind of peripheral miniatures might be a good way to draw in customers who'll consequently also choose to buy their rank-and-filers from the same company. There must be dozens of companies producing rank-and-file Romans, Celts etc, but I think the ones that supplement their ranges with "quirky" additions such as villagers and druids, are also the ones that get noticed the most.

There might be something to that. But it seems to me the companies that get the most attention are whichever ones are the latest in the news. :)

These are pretty cool. I have to agree, not a whole lot out there for villager types, but they are certainly needed. Reaper is really good for them, since all of their minis are essentailly characters.

The kids and the dog should be chasing a chariot.

I knew I recognised them from somewhere.

Plynkes, they acknowledged their inspiration from beginning:

Fantastic stuff!

It's a fantastic set, and of course I want it.

Looking at the picture, I was wondering why no manufacturer offers flat plastic bases (effectively disks 1-2mm thick) in different standard sizes? - it seems that a lot of wargamers prefer such a base-look, and instead of washers and coins such a product might find a market? I might even switch from slottas if I could buy such bases the same places that I buy minis (I'm too lazy to search for the washers, and too cheap to use coins)...

I bought some 1.5mm ply bases in this style from Geronimo at Fenris Games (http://www.fenrisgames.com/) (Store Link (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Fenris-Games_Other_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ1QQftidZ2QQtZkm)) and I've been really happy with them for basing minis that already have integral bases.  I shall certainly be back to buy some more pretty soon, as I'm running short on 25mm ones once again! :)

If he doesn't list the size you're after, drop Geronimo a note, as he's a pretty nice chap and will be able to tell you if he can provide what you need.

Mad Doc, excellent! I hadn't seen that pic before.

I wasn't accusing them of anything nefarious, by the way, it's just I recognized those kids, and it took me a while to realise why they were familiar.

Yeah, his stuff is a bit good, isn't it :D  He's had a quite a lot from my back account in the last year!

But even the stuff I haven't painted yet, I don't have the slightest tinge of regret about buying.

Back on topic, I forgot to mention in my last post that the villagers are, I think, the first thing I've seen from WG that I reallywant to buy - but I'm trying hard not to get sucked into ancients as well!

Plynkes, forgot this in my last posting:  ;)
No offence.

It's hard to find decent pre-modern civilians, especially kids. Therefore I really HAVE TO purchase these miniatures, if only to support WG's effort with these.

I just ordered a few street furniture bits, they look good and having briefly met Geronimo at Partizan, he is a very nice chap
