Before Partizan, Simon came to the club and gave Martin and myself a demonstration of his To the Strongest rules. Having left us a copy we were keen to try them out again. On Tuesday evening Martin and I tried them out ourselves pitting my Gauls against his Republican Romans.

The really are a great game, easy to pick up, but with enough detail and quirks - no dice or tapes! - to keep them interesting.

I've done a battle report and there are loads more pictures from the game over on Scrivsland (http://scrivsland.blogspot.co.uk/2014/10/our-first-unaided-go-at-to-strongest.html)

Nice looking battle.
So, no dice or tapes,
please tell more on moving and melee.
Sounds very interesting.

Hi Marine,
The rules Paul and Martin were using are a set I've been developing, called "To the Strongest!". They are played on a big grid- you might just be able to make out tiny dots in the pictures, showing the corners of the squares. Instead of dice, playing cards are used to "activate" units, shoot/melee and save.
They are very fast to play! The rules have been designed to play club-sized games in 1-2 hours. However, they can also be used to play massive games in around 3 hours, like the one below which I recently ran at a show with friends.

I'm expecting to publish them, initially as a pdf, in November.

Simon,
we're giving them a try, here in Italy, and they are very interesting indeed.
A good way to resuscitate our -many- 15mm DBM armies!

Hi Simon!
Our questions have been forwarded to you by Paolo (thank you for your answers and clarifications).
The game runs very smoothly and it's great fun!
Always I wonder how many aces are in the decks, I know that they should be only eight but actually during the unit activation they seem much more!!! lol

Hi Marco,
Thanks Paulo has been in touch, and I see you have already spotted at least one missing line in the rules! :-) I'm glad you are enjoying them. Later today I will send another army list over.
Best, Simon
