Title: (COMMERCIAL) Greetings from Spain: Bad Roll Games is born!
Post by: Kushtar on November 09, 2014, 10:55:26 AM
Greetings,

My name is Marcos García and I come on behalf of a new Spanish miniature brand called Bad Roll Games, founded last march by a group of three friends who are developing Punkapocalyptic, the pimp and lethal skirmish post-apocalyptic game. You can see all the info and news about the game at our webpage (http://www.badrollgames.com/) or on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Punkapocalyptic), and we are on Twitter (https://twitter.com/Punkapocalyptic) too.

This is a new skirmish game, planned for about 8 to 12 miniatures per side (Mutards can have some more, as they are cheaper) and games which will last for about 2 hours. The size of the miniatures is 30 mm to the eye, and the first version of the rulebook is already available on the webpage and ready for free download for you to test, as well as the rules for the first two gangs and six scenarios.

But as the main thing here are the miniatures, I will not bore you with any more info and let's go straight to the pictures. Here you are some of the greens for the miniatures that are being made for us by the Big Child Team, with Jose Manuel Palomares on the lead, and that they will be painting in a near future. We hope to be on the market through our online store on May, but we will keep you updated with info and pictures.

Thank you for your attention, now it's miniature time!!!

Lovely looking models, but as mentioned before I would still like to see a comparison image with the Taban EDEN range models.

Also you really need to find a webstore that does not force buyers to register for an account just to see your shipping costs.

Great looking models and 80s vibe for inspiration is a nice touch :)

Like the two girls a lot. Really ace sculpting! The survivor with bow is excellent, except for the goggles...they look a bit too narrow, giving him an odd face. But in general great sculpting and painting!

30mm to the eye? Hmmm, I wonder if they would size up with Mongoose Judge Dredd? There's some great juve and mutie options there, especially with that 80s element pocoloco mentioned.

Why when nearly every Miniature websites I know of requires you to create an account? It takes two minutes to register.

Hi, thank you for your comments! It's nice to hear that you like our miniatures.

Also you really need to find a webstore that does not force buyers to register for an account just to see your shipping costs.

There is an option in the webstore to calculate the shipping costs without being logged in or even registered. If you go to your cart after adding all the items you want to buy, there is a "Estimate Shipping & Taxes" option right under the "What would you like to do next?" line.

And as for the Taban/Eden comparison, that company produces miniatures with huge differences in sizes and scale. While some minis are reasonably well fit for 30 or 32 mm games, others are completely out of scale and are too bulky, broad or just disproportionate. We do have a comparison picture with other companies such as Corvus Belli or Games Workshop. I will look for the picture and post it here.

Hope this helps!

Hi again!

I have found a picture of two of our miniatures (the female Badass and the Brute) compared with some from Taban Miniatures, made by one of our customers.

Also, I forgot to tell you that there is currently an active voucher at our website, "CoolPunka", which you can use at checkout to get a 15% discount off our miniatures (and miniatures only) up to November 17th.

Enjoy!

Hi!

This month we have released our biggest and meanest creature ever, the Pit Beast! This ugly beast has been modelled by Iván Santurio and painted, as usual, by the Big Child Creatives team. It uses a 40 mm round base, rather than the usual 25 mm one, and its price is slightly higher (12,50 euros, instead of 10,95).

Feast your eyes...

And this month, ready for Christmas, we already have for sale on our online store (http://www.badrollgames.com/tienda/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=68) (and at the usual retailers) the so long awaited Ganger Starter Pack, which includes the five Ganger miniatures we have released so far: Chief (medium blade, rifle and biohazard protection), Badass (rifle/crossbow and biohazard protection), Brute (metallic armour and heavy mace), Ganger (hardened leather, bow and small blade) and Scumbag (throwing knives and light mace).

With this stylish eighties-flavored box you will be able to create a fully-playable Ganger band worth 350 points (in the next days we will provide some examples of gaming lists for that value), with which start to play Punkapocalyptic.

All for the incredible price of 39,95 €!

I absolutely love this Punkapocalyptic line. The character designs are thorough, lots of individual identity.

What's really special about these characters is that they have just enough styling to evoke a core P.A. look and feel without being shoe-horned by setting specific troupes. I don't want to knock Taban's figs, which are outstanding, but they're intentionally styled to look like they all belong to a setting-specific gang. There are a few other lines that hit me the same way. Campaign fluff books are good, but I'm the type of person that prefers a more general figure line, so I can determine the setting that the squads exist in the manner I choose. Examples of companies that do this with their lines are well-known, but for posterity they are Copplestone, Ratnik, Reaper, and some of the RAFM USX figs. With simple mods these lines can look low tech or high tech, gonzo or realistic, or appear as adversaries to either zombies or mutants. Ideally a great PA figure needs no mods to be so versatile. I think your Gangers in particular have this kind of subtle ubiquity.

Keep them coming!

Thank you so much Donkus for your words!

It is always a pleasure to hear that we nailed it with our designs and people like them like you do! We just aimed to give our miniatures a retro-apocalyptic look, like if the world ended around the eighties, but apart from that, you are right that we didn't want to make them too "ours" in their appearance or too distinctive for our own setting (but distinctive from other brands, that is).

The fact that you name such big fishes of the industry as Reaper, Copplestone or RAFM in the same paragraph as our own miniatures fills us with huge pride and awe.

We will keep them coming, rest assured! Stay safe out in the Wasteland!

Hi there!

This week we are releasing January's new miniature, the first of the third playable band to arrive to the Punkapocalyptic world: the Junkers. These fellas roam around the Wasteland, searching for any low-tech item or piece of junk with which to build their strange gadgets, weapons and contraptions. This band will have a more distinct scrap-punk (opposed to steam-punk) look to them, and we hope you all like them!

Hi there!

Thank you for your kind words, Jan. I see you are from Berlin and maybe you will like to know that a friend from Dresden is translating our rules into German, and in fact there is going to be a demo game at a Dresden store (the ReckenEcke, Martin-Luther-Straße 24, 01099 Dresden) next week ;)

Anyway, we have posted some news on our website regarding our next faction, the Junkers, and the fundraising method we will use to have it complete in one go. That is, a crowdfunding campaign. After more than a year with traditional funding (ie, putting our own money on it), we have realised that our release rate is too slow and we would like to try and get a whole new gang at once. If we are succesful, players will have a new choice to make their bands from and those who back the project will receive quite a bunch of goodies if the tiers are met during the campaign.

Stay tuned, as we will keep you updated about this matter in the days and weeks to come. Meanwhile, read about it here:

The five miniatures for our incoming Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign have already been revealed:

Beginning on May 4th, you will be able to get this awesome Junkers Starter Pack as well as many unlockable stretch-goal extras (some of which will be visible from the very start of the campaign, and I can tell you they include at least a free extra miniature), along with any other miniature from our existing catalog you like.

On friday we will reveal the exclusive Indiegogo miniature, which will be available only during this campaign and won't be sold anywhere else once it is over! Stay tuned!

Good to hear, that a translation is going on, though i have no problem with a good english translation. But i know there are many people here, who like german rules very much.

I already started playing EDEN. The miniatures are good, but there are always exceptions, so i have to say your models are the better ones (from pictures). Both high level. The EDEN rules are realy the main plus factor. They are so great and different from others. But now it comes: The support has been realy bad and that is a big point many german gamers do not play the game (anymore). It was always (for years) a big problem to get the up-to-date Character-Cards. Even in english. Now they have a new website and a downloadsection, but since a few month half of the Card-Sets are AGAIN missing. And i am not speaking of german cards. The english ones would be enough. If you write them an (polite!) E-Mail with a question ... NOTHING happens. This is realy bad and my desire to support the company shrinks. They can slap out miniatures, but the rest is important, too.
So concentrate on a good english basis (ruleset and profiles, scenarios) would be my advice. The rest (german, french...) is just a nice extra. But so long you are doing this VERY GOOD. Without testing the rules i see many good things on the run with you guys.
The Design of your miniatures is great! The sculpting, too. So the new minis will be just awesome!

I wish tons of luck and success for you.
The big problem nowadays is, that the market is very full of tabletop-stuff in our rich, abundance society. Everyone sits on a huge hill of unpainted miniatures at home, counting myself. The impulse buying good looking miniatures is very high, but when i will paint and play with all of them? Answer is: Never. But i will go to spread the word, that there is a realy good looking game out there (again from spain!).
You have good points to reach the community and hopefully their purses.

Go get them! :D

Thank you Gringo and Jan for your kind words, they are a real boost for our morale :D :D :D
We have ourselves bought some Eden miniatures, and the main problem we see for them is that they seem to be from different scales: some female miniatures are so bulkier and bigger than they male counterparts, that they seem quite off scale (we know in real life there are big women and small men, allright, but their scales unbalance is quite obvious from model to model). We give our modellers a copy of each produced miniature made by the others, so they can work with a real reference of that the game scale is.
One good point in our game, apart from having our rules translated into English, is we don't use cards or tokens. We keep things simple. You buy your miniatures (you can play with just 5 or 6 of them), download the 25-pages rulebook, and with a couple of d10 dice you are good to go. You don't need anything else.

And now, the news ::)

And finally, here it is the exclusive Indiegogo campaign miniature, manufactured in high quality resin, which will not be available on stores... and will be able to join any band from any faction!

He is... Eightfingers, renowned pit fighter from Nowater and two times "Da Big Blow" winner. He rarely gets involved in gang wars, as his Crib considers him too precious to risk his life in such quarrels, but if the offer is generous enough...

Remember you can read his story here:

Starting today at 9 am (Central European Time) you can access our Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to fund what will be our third faction for this game, the Junkers. During this campaign you will be able to buy any miniature already in our range, the new gang’s Starter Pack or the exclusive miniature we have designed for this campaign.

If you want to know more, you can read about it here (http://www.badrollgames.com/en/junkers-starter-pack-crowdfunding).

If you want to make your contribution (thank you!), there you go the link to the campaign (http://igg.me/at/punkapocalyptic/x/3210269).

Question: How tall is the Brute figure from the Gangers faction and how may parts to assemble?

Thank you Robh for your contribution ;)
The Brute is not really much taller than the other human miniatures. He is bulkier, but maybe a couple of mm taller (regular miniatures are 30 mm to the eye, the Brute might be 31 or 32).
He has three parts to assemble: body, heavy mace (including both hands) and the body armour (a manhole cover, actually).

Indeed, it does take a bit more thought with an Indigogo campaign. Payment taken immediately and no option for refunds (unless granted by the project owner) means you have much less opportunity to reconsider your pledge.
But on the positive side IGG are much more supportive than KS if there is a problem, not to the point of actually taking any responsibility of course, but will provide contact info and assist in claims.

You have to put a lot more faith in campaigns and the companies behind them.

I understand your concerns, but I can assure you that the only thing we want is to get the money to keep making awesome miniatures and fund this new third faction. We are not strictly newcomers to the industry, as we have been operating for more than a year now, and you can see what we can offer by browsing our galleries on Facebook or our website.

If you are interested in our products, please back our project and help us grow! ::)

I would have no problem funding B.R.G. I've bought several of the minis from this line and they're at least as good or better than the typical RAFM or Reaper figures.

Thank you Donkus for your faith in us! ;)

So far, our crowdfunding campaign is meeting a huge success, with more than 5,000 euros raised in 4 days. We are really close to meet our campaign goal to fund the Junkers faction for Punkapocalyptic, but we would also love to get some nice stretch goals for you people to get really cool free extras in the process (like this Piston with Harpoon gun).

For those of you who are still reluctant or even don't know us from our last year's work, we have prepared some articles about the game (http://www.badrollgames.com/en/discover-punkapocalyptic/), our previous work (http://www.badrollgames.com/en/the-miniature-development-process/) and Indiegogo campaigns (http://www.badrollgames.com/en/indiegogo-campaigns-for-newcomers/).

I've seen the Raiders and Mutards in the lead and they are damned attractive. :-*
Not so much the BRG Staff though, who are forced to wear gas masks at conventions so they do not frighten small children. ;)

For me, I would actually like to see figures taken from their promo art for the game... principally the raider in the Stray Cats T-Shirt for one.

Regardless though, new figures is what this game needs to grow and crowd-funding is the only way to do it for small independents unless they are to expand at a snail's pace. Nevertheless BRG do exist, they do the rounds of shows here in Spain and elsewhere... so it's not like some of these companies who nobody has never heard of or seen.

:)

Fact is, Arlequín, we actually DO scare children even *without* the gas masks :o

Thank you so much for your faith in us and your kind words. De verdad, mil gracias :D

Our main promo art character, Lizzy Deville, will definitely have her own miniature and rules in the future. She seems to have a lot of charisma and many followers are asking us about her turned into an actual mini.

Hi!

A week so far with our Indiegogo campaign running and we have raised more then 80% of the funds! Good work! But we still need a slight push to make it to 100% and start unlocking some juicy and FREE extras for all of our backers who pledged for a Starter Pack or above.

To such end, today we have uncovered the following three stretch-goal extras available at 10,500, 12,000 and 13,000 euros. Maybe they are cool and luring enough to make you increase your pledge level, or even talk some friends into sense and make them join the campaign. Free miniatures for everyone, it's a win-win! :D

He seemed to be gone from the Wasteland for a really long time, but today the legendary Crazy Mel is back to Scrapbridge.

We now present you with one of our future releases, the first in a series made of high-quality resin, scheduled for next July if everything goes smoothly. The machete will be a separate piece, in case you want to have it more like the movies, and will have an optional head with The Goose helmet, glasses and mask.

This miniature is not part of the current Indiegogo campaign, but as a token of gratitude for all of you who have put your money in it, we will raffle 5 of them among those who have pledged at "Scrapbridge neighbor" level or greater.

What a lovely, lovely day!!!

Holy sh*t, you did it! We have just funded our Indiegogo campaign, and it was all thanks to YOU, people! You are awesome, you really rock. THANK YOU!

And now... let's unlock some of those fraggin' extras!
http://igg.me/at/punkapocalyptic (http://igg.me/at/punkapocalyptic)

Please note that, as a token of gratitude for all of you who made this possible, we have swapped the position of second and third unlockable stretch goals. That means that the first free miniature, the Junker Piston with Harpoon gun, is now closer to go home with all backers with access to the free extras: now it will unlock at 9,000 euros, and the free Extra Piston Arm with Ballistic punch moves to 10,000 euros.

Great news!

Having already funded the Indiegogo campaign, we have started to rally our modellers and designers to begin with the miniature production process.

Here you have an early 3D work in progress for the Female Junker Gear with Blunderbuss, made by RN Estudio, which will be part of the five miniatures included in the Starter Pack.

We will keep these WiP shots coming as we get them! Stay tuned!

Be witness and spread the word! Eightfingers is in da house and he means business! The most famous Coke Crib's pit fighter is coming to crack some skulls, ask names and then crack some more skulls 'cause he couldn't care less about your god**mn names!

Still working with RN Estudio to make some minor changes (scars, fingers overstock and armor details), but this is really close to what you will get as exclusive Indiegogo miniature if you pledged for a Starter Pack or higher on our crowdfunding campaign.

This miniature won't be available on stores once the campaign is over, just in a bunch of weekend events we might attend in person during the next year. You wanna regret it for life? Pledge now!

Your figures are great. I really like the designs, including the concept art.

However...

I think you may be making a mistake calling one of your gangs "Mutards". "Tard" or "Retard" is a pretty vicious and hurtful slur used against disabled people, and it may not be wise to tie your business to something like that. Just a friendly heads-up.
Title: Re: Greetings from Spain: Bad Roll Games is born!

Hi, Cameron

Thanks for the tip, but that is actually an old subject ;) Mutards have been present in our game since day one, and during the last year and a half we have been introduced in many stores around the world (in fact we have a distributor in the States, Golden Distribution, former Warpath Games) and we received that same advise quite a few times.

If you read the background from our webpage, which has been growing and evolving since the beginning, you will see that Wastelanders use the word "mutard" as a derogative term for mutants, but it cames from the union of the terms "mutant" and "bastard". No way to change it now even if we wanted to, as it is a fundamental part of all our gaming system. Sorry if that bothers you.

Anyway, I will paste here the answer I read about the subject in some other forum (I don't exactly recall which one, I think it was DakkaDakka) from another user, and which we completely agree with:

Quote
Punkapocalyptic is a shade irreverent and profane. The stories have dirty words, there's penis graffiti in interesting places, and I believe 'mutard' is a slur in the fluff. The game isn't exactly PC, which I find quite refreshing. It's grungy, it's punk, it's bawdy, and it's a little dirty. Punkapocalyptic is very much an adult-oriented product.

Now, whatever the etymology, the mutards are awesome. The faction has the coolest models and the characters are intelligent and capable in the fluff. To me, that puts a potentially derogatory name into an important context. If the mutards were stupid, bumpling, incapable, animalistic, and sub-human, it would be something of a different story. In other words, you don't have a group of mindless, nameless bad guys called the mutards, you have a viable, fun, and kick- player faction called "Mutards."

Sorry for the text wall ;) Best,

Our Indiegogo campaign enters its last 48 hours and we have not only got the basic funding we needed, but also achieved to unlock the first free extra.

But during the remaining time you still can give it a little last push and unlock even more things, which by the way are free for their most part.

From the very moment we got the basic funding we started to order the new miniatures' designs and modellings from our sculptors, so we will be able to deliver them to you as soon as possible.

The exclusive miniature for this campaign, Eightfingers, is already fully rendered on 3D. The copies will be made in high quality resin.

Besides we have also begun to order the modelling of the rest of the Junkers that will make up the faction's Starter Pack (these ones will be made out of metal, as the rest of our current catalog). Some of them are being modelled digitally in 3D and the rest the traditional way.

And ye be warned that we are really close to unlock the next stretch-goal level, at 9,000 euros, nothing more and nothing less than a free miniature of a Piston with Harpoon gun for every pledge level to access to the extra stuff.

And if all this was yet found to be lacking for you we will raffle 5 miniatures of Crazy Mel, our next release, among those of you filthy sinners who have pledged for a "Scrapbridge neighbor" level or higher on our campaign.

So, be witness and spread the word!!!

Hi there!

Our modellers have been really busy and we can now show you three (yes, THREE) new finished models for the Junkers Starter Pack, adding to those already shown during the campaign (Eightfingers and the Female Junker with Blunderbuss). There are only two more to be done (both Junker Pistons, the one with Axe and six-shooter, and the one with the Harpoon-gun), and then we will be right into production phase! Behold!

Junker Probe with Small blade and biohazard protection (modelled by Leonardo Escovar)

Crazy Mel, the famous character who roams the Wasteland with his loyal dog Meatball, has now his miniature for sale at our online store (http://www.badrollgames.com/tienda).

This is the first miniature for our new Punkapocalyptic Light range made of high-quality resin, manufactured by RN Estudio. And superbly painted, as usual, by the Bigchild team. It includes his dog Meatball, an additional head with helmet and the posibility to have him with or without a machete.

You will be able to use this character with any existing faction. Remember that you can download his special rules in the Mercs document at the Downloads (http://www.badrollgames.com/en/downloads/rules/) section.

Nice !

Any chance you'll sell the helmet head on it's own (or in a set of 5 or 10) for conversions?
they'd be great for creating Caesar's Legion in a Fallout theme.

Hi there, Wastelanders!

With all the new releases of Junkers already on the street (thank you all who supported us on our Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign!!!) except for the Starter Pack, it is time to move on to new things.

Last weekend we were at Desafío Wargames 2015 in Zaragoza (Spain) and we presented two new releases we pretend to have ready for the next big event, the Hispania Wargames 2016 in Málaga, on the last weekend of February.

They are the Teenage Mutard Wasteland Turtle: half man, half tortoise, all loser, who comes to reinforce the Mutard faction with his awesome... er.... something, being currently sculpted by Leonardo Escovar.

And the perfect companion for Crazy Mel, the ass-kicking Imperatrix Furiosa, 3D designed by RN Estudio. She will be a Junker Gear to put the ice on the cake of this faction.

You can keep updated about this on our Facebook (www.facebook.com/Punkapocalyptic) or webpage (www.badrollgames.com/en)
Hope you like them, we are really excited about these two new miniatures and hopefully we will have them by the end of February. Meanwhile, Happy Holidays to you all! :)

The Middle Aged Mutard Wasteland Turtle is here! We presented this new miniature last weekend on Hispania Wargames show in Málaga, and now it is available for general purchase.

Coming from the revolting sewers under the ruins of some city of the World of Before, here it arrives to our online store the latest release. With its mighty shell to fend off attacks and his cool attitude, it’s more than ready to join your Mutard band to fight all other factions in Punkapocalyptic.

Hi, Illumini,

The buildings are made of PVC foam sheets and yes, they come pre-colored exactly as pictured on the box. They are made by Plastcraft, maybe you know their previous works with Infinity, Carnevale or Malifaux scenery buildings.

Thanks for your interest,

Thanks Chaps!

HP, I agree the head on the Studio mini is not the most balanced, it could have been a smidge smaller. But a couple of years ago he was the best Max available. I like the Taban mini but he looks like he's balding too much, maybe a later years Max...

I understand that it does not come close to the mini you have painted for your advertising but I did my poor best :D I bought a second to convert as a driver for my AutoArt car. :D
