I've started on some 6mm bits and bobs this week, all Time Cast bar the bunker which I made. Didn't realise how much I missed it until I found two shoeboxes of 6mm WIP and naked metal/resin. And a shoe box is a LOT of 6mm.
-
Nice painting! About to really begin my 6mm journey now, been sitting in boxes for a while but my sparetime is soon expanding :D
-
Good luck with them, the great thing is how quickly you can get them done. 8)
I've started to base these buildings now. For all my figures I use a harder plastic from a bloke called Brian off ebay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/panshyne?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/panshyne?_trksid=p2047675.l2559) - and it's quite solid so he sent me a 100mm square sample to see if it would warp if I based buildings on it, and at around 1mm thick it's the perfect thickness.
It's very smooth and shiny so I've crosshatched it with a scalpel to improve grip.
Then added some pavement for the front.
Painted that up and varnished just that part.
For the gardens at the rear I'm using some Irregular Miniatures fencing, being metal it adds some weight, but it's also tough.
I worked out the layout with two gardens of the same size and one a little smaller, as such a microcosm of society, and the decorating of the gardens will reflect this... ::)
It's then I decide there's enough room for a little bit more paving.
Then with the building just resting on the base I glue the fencing in place with gel supeglue, but mainly at the ends not near the building. I'm going to be doing some gardening so need full access, and not attaching the building yet allows this.
Then I add the paving for the gardens...
... and some miliput for detail. Truly flat surfaces are quite rare in real life, bar bowling greens, and even a slight uneveness really helps in my opinion.
Paint on the paving,
(http://i.imgur.com/URzGlmQ.jpg)
and paint on the soil
(http://i.imgur.com/tKzqmQ4.jpg)
Next: Gardening!
-
While I'm waiting for the glue to dry on the gardening here's a radar station I finished.
-
Lovely stuff. I finished a few 100x100mm bases of Irregular Russian buildings. 6mm is so quick and cheerful to get done.
-
Thanks, yes it's great fun - have you put any photos of yours up?
Here's the finished model:

The greenery really finished that off! Wow, nice!
-
Very nice 8)
The greenery really does the job.
cheers
James
-
I should (along with with everything else I've painted this year... it's almost December ::))
-
Thanks guys.
The greenery is the longest part of the buld, especially as I use PVA so the modelling combined with the drying times really drags it out.
-
Wow, that looks awesome!
I'm hoping to redo some of my 6mm stuff, great inspiration.
Brian
-
Nice job
Good to see you "back on the horse"
Cheers
Kieran
-
Brilliant Phil. What a great little build. :-*
-
Thanks guys.
Kieran, thanks for your patience in updating me by email, much appreciated.
The sad thing about 6mm is although it's apparently a growth area, especially in times of recession, there's not many places to talk uniquely 6mm. AB forum used to be the place, but he's got a bright shiny forum which is all sci-fi now.
Anyway, here's a couple more buildings, both country houses, I fear I've gone a little lilliput lane with all the flowers but hey ho...

Lovely stuff - I'm all for seeing more 6mm on here.
-
Lovely work, Phil.
Very scenic.
:-*
-
Those really look wonderful.
-
Thanks guys.
Here's my latest, a paddock - made the fence to scale at 4mm/ft but can't help thinking it looks a little low. Scale creep eh? ::)

And the latest house.

First things first - Beautiful, really nicely made. I had to check that it was really 6mm.
The sad thing about 6mm is although it's apparently a growth area, especially in times of recession, there's not many places to talk uniquely 6mm.
I know what you mean. I love the smaller scales. There are so much more you can do.
I have recently sold off all my 6mm stuff and decided to make 10mm my smallest (figure, not ships etc) scale. I can nearly do everything i could do with 6mm but the figures are better proportioned/detailed.
I still have some pics of my 6mm napoleonics here - https://www.flickr.com/photos/torq42/sets/72157639931042415/
-
Thanks.
You Nappies are lovely, I imagine the new owners are very happy indeed. I noticed you had one of the same Timecast buildings too.
It's the amount you can get on the table, and how even a dining table becomes quite a large area to travel around, even for mechanised troops.
Got the house finished: :)

House is really nice.
You put more love of detail in your 6mm than a lot of people in 28mm.
-
God these are so good. I love them to pieces.
-
Awesome work, your a machine!
What is the yellow stuff on the ase?
Cheers
Kieran
-
Phil, I am really enjoying these.
I think I last played 1/300 scale tanks (NATO vs Warsaw Pact) at the fledgling Orpington wargames club circa 1980 ::)
You are damn well tempting me to have another look at micro armour!
Wonders will never cease.
Keep it up :)
-
Thanks guys, I'm tearing through these as these were buildings were pretty much totally painted when I got them out of storage. Now it'll slow.
What is the yellow stuff on the ase?
It's a flower mix flock from http://www.realisticmodelling.com/catalog.asp?subrange=Accessories folk like Heller do similar but it's probably cheaper via that site depending on postage.
Cpt. Blood: My interest in micro armour goes way back too, it was my first wargaming thing after airfix in the 70's, pocket money prices from H&R back then - I remember how a combi motorbike and sidecar was tuppence ha'penny. 8)
Now the choice is pretty good especially with GHQ and CnC widely available.
-
Lovely work, Phil
:-* :-*
You may be reminding the Captain of micro armour but these take me back to my 15mm DBA days, when the best thing was making the terrain, especially the Built Up Areas and the tiny 'Camp' sections for each army.
8)
-
Thanks mate.
Started on the last of the Timecast French houses tonight, the front is rather simple, paving around 3 sides of this base,
(http://i.imgur.com/twWNp5a.jpg)
But thought I'd do something a bit different around the back.

Individual building elements! In 6mm! Hah-ha!
-
Hah-Ha! indeed.
Worked on the damaged gardens today...

Worked on the damaged gardens today...
Clever!
I like that idea.
8)
-
Did you scratch build those fences?
-
Yep, they're about 6mm high. ;)
-
Really nice work Phil and I'm sure that it will look great when deployed en masse on the table. I really can't imagine working at this scale. I think that my eyes would pop out of my head. That makes your work all the more laudable.

If that's a finished piece then I'd say you're not even trying anymore and just coasting off your fame and previous brilliance.
If it's a work in progress I'd say some sort of bridge/tunnel/driveway.
-
Brigde, sunken road or some sort of damm?
-
If that's a finished piece then I'd say you're not even trying anymore and just coasting off your fame and previous brilliance.
:D :D :D
No, it's not any of those.
-
Slipway onto the beach? :)
-
Maybe the beginnings of a casement for a coastal battery (such as Merville)?
-
The houses look great but I haven't got a clue what the new one is ???

I'll show it at the next stage, but I mixed the milliput poorly so it hasn't set yet... >:(

The added struts made it easier, actually.
Go on then, finish it. This should be brilliant 8) 8)

It's getting there...

Apparently I've got to stop modelling as family come around for some annual nonsense...
-
I got a pile of goodies fro, Leven Miniatures as a crimbo pressie and my fave is the factory, so I've slapped some paint on it already.
Then I've added some paving, and worked out the height I want for walls.
And then made walls for all the sides, and a couple of pillars, a little too large, for the gate.
-
The V1 launcher looks grand - and I'd have been disappointed by the factory interruption, but that is grand too! 8) 8) 8)
-
That all look great Phil! :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Thanks guys.
I undercoated the V1 launcher and cracked on with the factory, so they're in tandem.

Maybe some weathering in the courtyard of the factory?
cheers
James
-
Looking good, Phil.
I foresee a few items scattered around the yard myself.
;)
-
Oh wow :o :-* 8)
-
Looking fabulous...
Might have to start thinking about resurrecting my old micro armour...now where did I put it?
-
OK, I had to go and rest as I was too agog at the V1.
That is SO cool 8) 8) 8)
I love the factory too, but that launcher is the bee's knees. Go on, pose a couple of tanks next to it - and the factory too.
-
Your 6mm stuff is better than most of our 28mm stuff, dammit!
The gardens are especially awesome. I might have to try a scaled-up 28mm version of one...
-
Thanks guys. :)
Maybe some weathering in the courtyard of the factory?
Yes it is a bit of a mass of grey, not sure what though, maybe just a wash over the whole thing but oil stains or manure piles? ;)
I foresee a few items scattered around the yard myself.
Well I'm not so sure, as it's big enough as is to fit based mini and vehicles in, I always try to leave space for that so it just have to just be those props in the corner.

I did paint the V1 blue on the underside too but you can barely see it.

Can't go wrong with a bit shit thrown about lol
It only needs a little bit in the corners (weathering that is, not shit).
cheers
James
-
Good idea... I have the gate and the signage to do yet, but will weather as suggested... just have to find the Vallejo "Horse Manure medium" paint as the "Cow Pat Brown" is too damned dark... :P
-
Wow, pics with tanks. Awesome 8) 8) 8) 8)

Thanks guys. Thought I'd show what can be achieved with 6mm in a single sitting, below was a single sitting of 5 hours, including dinner.
Started with a painted Leven joinery shop...
decided it needed a loading bay so had to build a platform from foamex for it...
It's a neat fit...
Drilled holes and put the uprights into them...
Then the horizontals, notice how I cut them long and have spare, this is the best way I know of of getting great joins...
Then trim those off and start placing the planking... also put a front staircase in.
and it's looking fine...
then onto the base...
using filler for the concrete, it was a bit damp so I wait for it to dry a bit and then smear it around...
and in go the uprights, etc...
then check everything still fits
(http://i.imgur.com/yPZ4nVI.jpg)
Put in the struts for the signage out front and undercoat it the colour of the wood fencing, a much quicker way of painting the fencing than undercoating in another colour and coming back with a brush...
in any other scale I'd not have got so far so quickly of course... ;)
-
The carpenters is finished, thanks to zizi666 for the help with the Flemish...
Enough room in the yard for two bases
(http://i.imgur.com/mOGdnj6.jpg)
Also finished another factory... not sure what to do about the signage... likely to be French and maybe auto related..
Started on a control tower.
Also had a spare chunk o' base so knocked up some barbed wire.
-
Great stuff !
-
Yep, these just get better and better.
Do you have a larger mat that many of these will sit on? Or is this going to be an entirely tiled board?
-
What is that Green stuff you use as bases?
-
Thanks.
Do you have a larger mat that many of these will sit on? Or is this going to be an entirely tiled board?
I put them on a mat. I base them because they look better, makes storage easier and as I usually leave space for based minis on them allows a clear definition of a unit having control of a building.
What is that Green stuff you use as bases?
It's a hard 1.5mm plastic from a bloke called Brian in Bedford. I first used it for 30mm square bases for 6mm vehicles and liked it so much I got him to cut me some for buildings. It's great stuff with really minimal warpage, on the bigger bases, which are around 200mm the max warp I've had has been under 1mm. You can get it from him on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/panshyne/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg= , tell him I sent you if you buy as it'll be some small compensation for just how many questions I ask him before each order.

Any chance of a great shot/scene next time you take piccies?

Perfect for the mandatory French brothel!
Or for ze resistance - pay attention....
-
I'm stumped when it come to making roads. The main problem is what to base them on, as my building bases are typically 1.5mm plastic, and I don't want to have roads which are raised above them, it wouldn't look right.
I think I could get away with 2mm-ish thick, as the bases are flocked, but typically any long thin base, esp. one without a building to weigh it down are really likely to warp.
Any suggestions?
-
Aluminium?
0,5mm can be cut with scissors (although it will be a real PITA) and I must say I have no idea if they will keep their flatness in the length you will need.
-
That's an interesting idea, I've had a quick butchers and found well-priced sheet also in 0.7, 0.9, and 1.2 mm. Hmmmm. Cheers! 8)
-
BTW : if you know anyone with acces to a sheet metal shear your straight pieces will be cut in a jiffy. (although they will need some filing on the edges as the process tends to leave a little flash on the cut, well at least on the shears we've got at work)
-
I've found this chap: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400651887596?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&var=670200640930&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT who offers custom cut sizes. Although lengthways it'll still be an issue.
Thanks again.
-
Just mind the sharp edges if you go metal.
-
Just mind the sharp edges if you go metal.
Good point: Razors on the table anyone?
:D
Maybe wrapping the edges in masking tape would work, and give a little texture to boot..... ???
-
Just mind the sharp edges if you go metal.
Oh yes, the foamex I use can give you a nasty cut on a fresh edge so I'd file them down a bit.
-
A few folk have asked about basing, although typically elsewhere, so here's my step by step guide to basing for 6mm.
This is my full blown vegatation on rough ground look. The key is to make it a really busy base so this means a few varied flocks, both in type and tone.
Start with the plastic base, which I get custom cut at a great price from: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171554938453?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
(http://i.imgur.com/OP36aTX.jpg)
I then score this to give a rough surface to give more purchase. I also sand the corners to round and the edges to little smoother.
As it's rare for ground to be actually flat, bar a cricket pitch and the like, I then add a little irregularity with milliput.
Then a reddish brown coat of paint...
...followed by a mid flat brown...
...and a light brown.
This is a basic flock mix, I've mixed it to look like what the longer flock might look like were it mowed, or just shorter. All are applied onto PVA glue.
I apply it in an irregular manner.
Then the hairy flock that most of us have.
Which goes on in patches.
Next is the foam, often sold as bushes and in various sizes.
I tend to chop it up to get smaller pieces.
Then onto the moss, which I've plucked from a mate's lawn, plain moss to the left and dyed moss to the right.
Again chopped, tiny amounts go on, if you want to put big bushes on I find putting this on first and then putting the bush on top gives maximum bushy bushiness.
Finally a flower mix... the best source I've found for these is: http://www.realisticmodelling.com/catalogintro.asp
(http://i.imgur.com/zLshWmx.jpg)
And the jobs done

Nope, not accepting excuses ;D
cheers
James

Love it! I assume the runway and apron will also come when you make the roads, but what about hangars? Or some Quonsets or other accommodations for the men? Eh? Eh?
-
It is sooo cute! :-*
-
Thanks... and excuses are all you're going to get - for now.
Love it! I assume the runway and apron will also come when you make the roads, but what about hangars? Or some Quonsets or other accommodations for the men? Eh? Eh?
Mike at Leven started because of his interest in airfields, so I have hangars and some other airfieldy bits. Convenient because I wanted an airfield but couldn't be bothered to built it from scratch. I'll probably just have a landing strip and have aprons on the hangar bases.
-
Really uber cool stuff mate! Made me want to finish my own 6mm stuff now! Mine will be modern's mind you!
Loved the smashes fences on that set of terraced houses!
-
Set to it, it'll be brill. I did use 6mm moderns for Twilight2000 many years ago, still have some of those really rough buildings, many I had a refurb of.

Lovely little building, Phil.

I cant help feeling it seems a long way from those stairs to the shelter once the klaxons go off.
I can just see the little fellas making a run for it.

Top notch stuff. Keep it coming. :)

Thanks mate.
Here's a Leven Miniatures Hangar, a lovely and large model although not one which really lends itself to having much detail added.

and some light Bedford lorries, one I've converted to a command vehicle - not sure how well it's worked, makes me appreciate the quality of the models tbh.

and a truck...
-
I'm liking these latest additions. Are you gaming with these?
-
Yes, I have to dig out my stored pieces and add these to them, but until then I'm still churning them out.
-
What truck is that? and model?
-
I don't rightly know, someone gave it to me in the 80's and this is a repaint. I use it as a civvy truck - often resistance.
-
What truck is that? and model?
I showed this to some other 6millers and the best we could come up with was H&R or Scotia - and Russian. I'd plumb for H&R given it's age.
-
Cool stuff!!
-
I would also guess H&R, or maybe Croissant Miniatures.
-
Sure, but back in the 80's we only knew of H&R.
-
A bit of a gravedig, but I've finished some 6mil this week

I started building a damaged factory, apologies the rushed and blurred photos...
Cut out a base, added the pavement, and marked in the walls.
Cut out the basic walls.
Clad one side of the walls with brick textured plasticard
(http://i.imgur.com/xzP0bg7.jpg)
Cut those out
(http://i.imgur.com/sePp6i1.jpg)
Clad the other side
(http://i.imgur.com/Qk7VP0i.jpg)
Cut those out
(http://i.imgur.com/SqmpdmM.jpg)
Cut the pillars and stick them square onto brick plasticard
(http://i.imgur.com/dBWwPXo.jpg)
Stick them to the walls, and see how it's all fitting together.
Add smaller brick buttresses and cut some damage. With the walls being clad you can cut individual bricks out of the textured side and add a bit of relief.
Tiled the floor, and added damage.
I'll try and take better pictures next time, I'm rushing them to save time and they look awful... ::)
-
Godd you`ve mentioned that there is some brick texture on the walls lol
No just joking ;)
Great start for that building. What material you are using for the wallcore? Hard to say by the pictures, Foamcore, Plywood?
Are the tiles on the floor a textureplate, or sculpted in?
-
Oh I know, I've just been doing quick snaps because I'm furiously building... :-I
It's all plasticard, the wall core is 1.5mm, when clad about 2mm, the floor is tile textured plasticard.
After slight trimming it fits together well. The ends do and join lines so four more columns up next.
Lintels and sills added before construction
(http://i.imgur.com/EDhqMVN.jpg)
The most damaged side, showing a few bricks hacked out.
It has to be quite roomy inside to allow the standard 35mm square bases to fit.
-
Are those lintels ready-made? Interesting... who makes those?
-
Fantastic work!
How do you cut your windows in the plastic card? I found it was the worst part of the grain elevator. Even on thin card it was horrible. Yours is superb!
-
Are those lintels ready-made? Interesting... who makes those?
Yes, they're from South East Finecast. Download the PDF, from http://www.sefinecast.co.uk/Prices.htm to see the full range, as they're not all listed on the site. I've had one of every sheet and they're great. They're vac-formed so bear that in mind.
There's eight different lintels and arches to that sheet and corner brickwork & soldier courses - FBS411.
Fantastic work!

Thanks.
With a scalpel with repeated goes and replacement blades, it is a pain. If I'm cutting purely on the finished plasticard I've very careful, but with cladding you can have cuts over run at the corners, saving a bit of time, as the cladding will hide it, so long as you sand them where the blade has lipped it.
-
Wow, I went through a bazillion blades for my elevator, so I guess there's no easier way to do it! lol
I thought maybe you had a magical way - I have a heated x-acto kit that I'm going to try next time. Should be fantastic on thin stuff. It's amazing on foam.
-
That should be interesting, don't forget to post pics. ;) Until then it's achy finger tips and tired fingers.
First pass with the rubble on the factory, mainly sand to start.
And while that was drying knocked up the Factory office building.

Fantastic. Very inspiring! :-*

Looking good there fella 8)
Tat office building is crying out to be cast ;)
cheers
James
-
Some great skill and innovation going into this little beauty.
:-*
-
Thanks chaps.
That office building is crying out to be cast ;)
I'm not sure what I'd do with the resulting casts tbh. I did offer it up to one of the 6mm buildings manufacturers but they didn't bite.
Put the finishing touches to a couple of hangars, featuring 6mm oil drums and crates from Perfect Six
(http://i.imgur.com/hXTIvsW.jpg)
-
Fantastic stuff and its good to see this thread revived.
-
Thanks!
Did the second pass of rubble.
I left it for a few days and the base started to warp, the first one to do so but it's the first big build on a base, clad flooring and 3-ply walls have all had their effect. So I'm waiting for a small piece of sheet metal to turn up which I'll glue the base on.
Started on the roof, it's be covered with tiles so it can be a little rough.
This brought a fresh problem, the plasticard tiles I was going to use are a trifle too small for what I was going to do. Namely an overhang to the front and a shattered edge with struts at the damaged end, :?
Finished the last hangar though. :)

Seriously amazing work Phil!

Thats all good stuff Phil! 8) Have we ever had a group shot with all your nice wee bits 'n' pieces together?

Thanks guys! 8)
Have we ever had a group shot with all your nice wee bits 'n' pieces together?
There's a couple of right ropey photos of a game on my blog, couldn't find them though. :(
I think I've cracked a way to do decent roads, once those are done it'll be game time and I might take a photo or two of that. ;)
-
Really not had the time to do much with any of these, but did sneak a bit of time to almost finish these.

Irregular Miniatures searchlights and (not as sure on the source) dispatch riders? Looking good.
-
Those came up nice. I have those spotlights from Irregular and they are great little models.

Yeah Irreg make some very good fillers for gaps in other ranges. Wish I had more time for 6mm at the mo'.

The five year plan marches on!
The first T-34s are finished, some have desant riders from Adler attached. The fuel drums on
a couple of these make attaching them a pain but I may continue trying.

BA 64s, a couple of Soviet trucks and a captured German one.

The first platoon of shock troops. Based them all rather simply to get the numbers rolling,
I'll make more dioramic ones now the first eight are out of the way

all on 35mm square bases.

Nicely done on all of them - so cute!
-
The basing is aesthetically pleasing for sure when viewed like this, but I wonder how it is going to work on the table?!
-
Sexy ;D
What's the 'salt' on the supply base?
cheers
James
-
Thanks
The basing is aesthetically pleasing for sure when viewed like this, but I wonder how it is going to work on the table?!
Works fine, but also helps it stand out a little as the command base, which is a vital part of the BKC rules.
Sexy ;D
Thanks but concentrate on the models please.
What's the 'salt' on the supply base?
Florist sand from IKEA.
-
Love the tiny Dingo. That really is cute. Great stuff Phil. Keep 'em coming :)
-
Cheers.
Here's my latest, it's the Irreg. Mini's windmill which I've had for a while. It's probably the worst casting I've ever experienced. There was enough flash to make another sail including a big lump from the venting off the staircase ::) The sails are covering the worst of it, but even once cleaned the mill part doesn't fit together properly, isn't square and leans forward on it's stand. If you're after a 6mm windmill buy any other rather than this one. :-[
(http://i.imgur.com/2HH8gMS.jpg)
-
You have most certainly made the best of it. It look great.
-
Cool! 8)
-
I have considered buying that one many times. I am familiar with Irregular's quality though.
If a result such as yours can be achieved I don't mind cutting a bit of flash.
-
Thanks guys.
Well there certainly is a lot of chunky flash, the mould was obviously buggered...
This is after an hours cleanup, the vent on the staircase is right in the middle of the stairs...
Poor fit...
But worse on the other side, planking doesn't line up, etc...
-
So, what you're saying is that "Irregular" is accurate. :P
-
You've done a good job. I painted some Russian terrain last year. A little green stuff needed to fix up a few areas.
-
Awesome job on the windmill. I have one I think but I don't remember it being too bad to fill (but some Irregualr stuff is shocking).
-
Thanks. other windmills are available and if anyone wants one those have to be better. ;)

All nice, but that bottom one is really something special.
-
Thanks, I like to make the command bases stand out as they're key in BKC and any confusion with regular bases is a pain.
Sexy Jim asked above about the sand I use and I just got a refill, it's changed name to something equally unpronounceable, but instead comes in a handy pot rather than a bag. This is the smallest grains I've found, available from an IKEA near you.

More T-34s from GHQ with dessant riders from Adler

Any chance of an army shot along with the terrain :D
Sexy Jim asked above about the sand I use and I just got a refill,
Well, I've no doubt that we will have to go to Ikea at some point in the near future ::)
cheers
James
-
A pair of Soviet AT guns. Rather irritatingly you get only two P.M.s with several guns, so I've based the PMs at the back of the base so they work for both towing and deployed. Added desant riders because I couldn't see how the crew travelled with the guns otherwise...

Possible to get a larger picture? I tried the direct link on the above (which looks good), but I still can't get the detail I demand! ;)

Thanks geezers.
Got quite a collection together which I think someones going to buy off me.

More or less finished the Soviet forces, found a good camo pattern for a couple of tanks:

Some command bases:

Found a couple of neat and cheap Russian buildings from Amphimods

Built some factory ruins:
Couldn't resist casting them, as more than one set means a bigger factory - if anyone would like a set PM me, very limited supply and sold a few already

Squeezed out a few Germand and British support weapons

Stunning (and such a small scale!). Flower bed and trees are really well done.

Really well done I would say!

Thanks guys.
I've been a little under the weather but recuperated with a few para pieces... it helped recovery greatly. :)

e2a: Realised I've already posted the ruins... ::)
Tally Ho!
-
They turned out well.
(managed to finish the masters they'll be off next week)They're far mor relevant than chute colours (for gaming) once you've learnt to read them. They open more scenarios than chutes alone.
Look forward to seeing the rest.
Mark.
-
Very nicely done.
-
Superb!
-
Thanks fellas.
Finsihed the factory, wholly scratchbuilt aside from some Perfect Six crates and oil drums. Some warpage, as the walls are a sandwich of 1mm styrene with brick textured cladding either side - but on a ruin not a problem, it's worse on the roof but I'll just have to live with it... :?

This stand is very nicely done; the wall, the garden bed. Is it okay to game with - might be a little delicate?
(PS I'd feel like a sycophant if I commented every time you posted an update.)
-
Great work on these new bits matey :D
cheers
James
-
Thanks chaps.
This stand is very nicely done; the wall, the garden bed. Is it okay to game with - might be a little delicate?
It is delicate but command bases don't move that much in BKC so I'm hoping that will safeguard it. If it breaks I'll turn it into a ruined railing. ;)
-
Great stuff Phil! I love that factory most of all! :-*
-
Thanks, it was a right pain so I'm happy to see it finished.
More work on Para's
This is a standard Jeep from GHQ, they do an SAS jeep but it's very obviously SAS and not a Para jeep.
So I did a head swap on the driver and added some Adler Paras.

Well done sir.

Lovely, even more when I reassessed the size of it. The black painting for the "inside" has really been effective - for a second I thought you hollowed out the glider!
-
Thanks chaps. Had I used GHQ gliders I could have had some "inside" but they're too pricey in comparison with these.
The first Crimbo pressies part one: GHQ Panzer IVs, including two with turret swops and skirt armour added, although with the camo you can't really see the turrets. :/ And a captured T34-85 out of the bits box.

Gorgeous little gems of panzers...
I am getting so tempted by this thread to revisit 1/300 tanks after a 30 year absence! (I seem to be regressing to my adolescent hobby state on many fronts! ;))
-
Lovely detail - the T-34's camo is really special.
-
Thanks chaps.
I've been looking into 6mm fantasy lately, there's some great ranges available now, especially Microworld Games in the States, and Perfect Six and Baccus in the UK.
http://www.microworldgames.com/collections/6mm-fantasy (http://www.microworldgames.com/collections/6mm-fantasy)
http://www.perfectsixscenics.co.uk/warlords-and-realms.html (http://www.perfectsixscenics.co.uk/warlords-and-realms.html)
https://www.baccus6mm.com/catalogue/Fantasy/ (https://www.baccus6mm.com/catalogue/Fantasy/)
One of the things I have found lacking is scenics which are fantastical as fantasy might suggest, just about everything in 6mil is quite small aside from scale. So I thought I'd have a bash at making something a bit bigger but which still wouldn't break the bank if I were to sell it.
I decided on a bridge which at the moment is around 300ft long and 90ft high in scale, early days yet, lots of detailing to add, including towers. When I add the road bed on the ramp sections either side I'll not just put them on the slope but also on the flat underside - that way it can be used as is but if you wanted to make a larger piece or a board with it bridging a chasm you can just turn it around that way.
A close up to show the detailing, and give an idea of scale. Those minis are some undercoated ones from Perfect6, the only ones I have thus far. Size wise I think it works, and although you could do similar in 28mm it'd take ages, cost a fortune and you'd have to get one of your children to live in the loft so you could store it.
-
Central span, also partially scribed on the other side. I'll cast from this for the other side.
Working on a small building to go on the other side of that middle bit.

How the bridge would work as part of a bigger build, a slight trim needed if this is the way you'd use it
(http://i.imgur.com/5MSNqxK.jpg)
And adding some detail
(http://i.imgur.com/6WboVHV.jpg)
-
Most of the detail on the tower done...

Partially built and how it sits with the bridge arch...

Very nice rotting bone tones. They're tiny, but so well painted.

Thanks, I wanted something which looked aged rather than white. V. easy to paint, black undercoat, pale grey dry brush, little bit of white drybrush and wash for the bones.

Got the rocky outcrop finished, here's an album of photos of it: http://imgur.com/a/KGg04 (http://imgur.com/a/KGg04)

The tower looks excellent, so does the bridge. 6mm really allows you to depict some buildings true to scale.

Brilliant show!

The buildings are very spiffy, and even more impressive for being 6mm. Like the way you've blended in the cut ends of the tower walls and hidden the joins.

Just caught this thread - very interesting - the rock golem definitely looks better with the 'lava' core.

Oh boy oh boy! This is beautiful!

While the painting is top notch, it's made even better with that basing.

Although I think the rest of '17 will be filled with getting my fantasy all done, I'm looking at doing 6mil sci-fi next year so happy to stumble across this, in box scale of 1/241th, which suits me fine - especially at six quid/

You really do collect everything under the sun in 6mm don you?
Great looking work on all, especially love the giant smashing trough the shed, completely missed that before.

Shit, missed all these updates ::)
Really cool, the mamooth a particular favorite :D
-
yep = missed them too - superb - the rock golum is zinging now :-)
-
You really do collect everything under the sun in 6mm don't you?
Well it's such a really versatile scale which takes up so little room, tbh it's only WW2 German/Brit/Russian, Fantasy (Undead/ humans - dwarve and orcs wip) and sci-fi. Plus we're so spoilt for choice now compared to my first "microarmour" in the mind seventies... Aliens in 6mil ffs! Incredible - have some colonial marines, SST and did I show the star wars?

What? The Star Wars?
-
Just catching upon this thread and there is some really nice fantasy stuff. I must get back to mine.
-
Indeed Phil, where did you get the Star Wars from?
-
Oh the Star Wars... ;)
Someone in a land far far away had them made for their personal use, and they're as hooky as hell not being official. I was hunting around for good SW proxies, and getting nowhere and someone anonymously tipped me off about a foreign vendor of these, which is very naughty. I got in touch with that guy, they were expensive, I had to paypal a third party to pay for them, all the usual long trench coats, brown envelopes stuffed with cash, espionage type malarkey.
I have some speeder bike too. Not based them yet.
-
It's amazing what you can find in the 6mm underground, if you are brave enough.
-
:D lol :D lol :D
It was partly exciting, but mostly a lot of waiting while wishng "Oh just get on with it..."
-
Guess I should base these up then...

Nicely (half) done. Base them up dammit.

I will but after I've done something quite different with a pair of them, just in case I bugger it up. I'm going to make a small diorama in a locket for our eldest who is an insanely keen fan of all things Star Wars. ;)

Not going to lie, as a goldsmith and a miniature wargamer that is just plain awesome.

6mm Star Wars! Oh I am so jealous! I will have to look deep into the web for those!

Some very nice new WW2 miniatures released from 2D6 Wargames... I have a few already, they easily match GHQ for quality and detail, but cheaper at just £1.10 a piece.

Oh bugger, worked last night.

Hmm, I tried to post one now and it seems to have worked, but it's a different new address. I think google shuffles their image hosting around continually to prevent image cross-linking like this. I've made a secondary hosting of the images on imgur for now.

superb vehicles Tim - look forward to more of the early british stuff too!

Bought some larger scale bugs from Pendraken to use as mahoosive bugs in 6mil. Didn't like the look of just four legs on the big warrior bugs so bought three and added extra legs to two of them. GZG bugs for scale, yet to apply the wash on the bigger bases.
Slightly disappointed with the Pendraken casts tbh, the big bug looked as if it had been cast with the mould askew, so there was a horrible cast line along it's shell, which I filed and then had to engrave the texture back in. One of the larger warrior bugs had part of it's lower jaw missing too, so just a 50% success rate on a purchase of four mini's... ho-hum.
-
I wish GZG would bring their 25mm Sa’vasku back. I only have a couple. I use them as giant bug tanks in 6mm and big bugs in 15mm. Lovely.
-
As I've said before lovely use of the models. It does beg for a picture with troops in there for scale though!
-
Sorry Tim, I assumed everyone knew the GZG ones. Will do a piccy once I've based my SST proxies, also do my Colonial Marines too, and have a grumble about them... ::)
-
Wow those 2D6 models are superb. If only there was a decent WW2 set of rules out there
-

There are a LOT of ruleset for small scale ww2 aren't there?
Sorry Tim, I assumed everyone knew the GZG ones. Will do a piccy once I've based my SST proxies, also do my Colonial Marines too, and have a grumble about them... ::)
I know of them, but I'm not at all sure of their size tbh. Failure in my 6mm upbringing I know! ;D
-

Hah, I can't talk, I've only ever seen two EPIC mini's, just last year, and they were both the same.
Here's my proxy SST's (from whom I can't remember), the GZG bugs, and some Khurasan Colonial Marines who, to my eye, look a tad puny.
-
Interesting, somehow I imagined the bugs smaller, but this is not bad at all, the 3 a base you did makes a lot of sense that way!
-
On some I've managed four per base, I wanted them to have a bit of variation particularly as a swarm, tight fit though. Tempted to try some bigger more hoarde like bases. Also a couple which are more dioramic.
-
Got a few pieces finished as I rid myself of a touch of the lurgy. the Colonial Marines APC, Colonial Marines and Starship Troopers. I really like the APS and the Troopers, the Marines are grand of course but a trifle puny I think, but only a little.
One has the door closed, and one open, nice to have the choice...

Having a play with a CP models' Pathfinder Ranger as support for the CM's APCs. Added a few lumps and bumps, going to set the turret to the back corner like the M577s. The turret is one of a lovely pile of spares from the Vanguard Miniatures' Cybershadow Skitter Main Battle Tank set.

Why not? Cheap, quick to do, tiny storage - can't go wrong.

Lovely work Phil, especially like the APC
Thanks.

yeah, that’s how it starts, and before you know it you’ve built an Atmosphere Processor....

lol
It starts with some infantry and a couple of vehicles, but then I would need some terrain and while I'm at it I might have to add...
I have a very limited amount of hobby time and would like to be able to feel like I'm going somewhere with my projects. Keeping everything 15mm sci-fi ensures that even if I go on a side project, it will be usable with everything else.
But with that said: 6mm looks pretty awesome!
-

Thanks, of course in 6mil you could build the entirity of Hadley's Hope, you'd just need some nutter with a history of big gorgeous builds... ::)
But with that said: 6mm looks pretty awesome!
Thanks, as a member of the cult of 6mil I'm obliged to try to convert you. ;)

Looking good Phil - the work on the SST jumpsuits was worth it.
(I found a 6mm SYW army in the pile a few weeks ago and got sidetracked building and undercoating it. I understand the allure!)

Thanks, not sure that's a valid measurement for any of this hobby tbh... lol

Love everything, but obviously really like your recent work - right up my alley!
-
a great ride for taking the kids out for the annual bug hunt on the rock next door, right?
-
Yep, that's why I added drinks holders and in-APC DVD screens.
-
Did some quick scenics over the weekend, about three hours effort and much more time spent waiting for various coats to dry. The thing I like most about them is how quick they were.
Anyone have any suggestions for other mesa style rocks? Preferably photos, links and vids... ;)
-
Very nice - those look suitably imposing!
-
They look really nice!
I've got some pink styrofoam slated for rocky scenics waiting in my cupboard!
-
Thanks guys. They're not brill but they were quick. I used a "hot pen" cutter, which is probably the most dangerous tool I own, as it's not built very well.
If you're thinking of getting one consider buying something else instead. :?

-
When the wire on mine suddenly snapped my life flashed before my eyes - couldn’t believe I’d come away unscathed!
-
Oh it's more insidious than that. After the first five minutes of using this it became apparent that the two part handle was coming apart or not tight enough, so the heated element wasn't being fully held in place, so any movement away from the handle slowly creeps it out of place. I've managed to avoid having it come out, but not a happy prospect.
-
Oh god - I'll stick to cork thanks!
-
Good idea, I'm possibly looking at cork too if I can find a good cheap source. I think making out of something with ready made detail is the way to do it.
I've done some more. First a couple more of the "cogs"...
Then a hacked lump o' foam...
And my fave, slate chips...
The slate ones were the fastest by far and with all that lovely detail which required no sculpting. Basically glued them onto a base, added some basetex, painted and done. The others are foam, not only had to be shaped but sealed too, takes too long I think.
-
Those slate ones have come out very well
-
Those slate chips have come up very nicely :)

Yeah and the fastest to do as well.

Thanks, I've not been complemented on my rear end for some ti- er... never mind. :p
Greeblies galore...
Got it to primed, not enough time to get it painted and decalled mainly due to waiting for filling putty to dry... that'll have to be next week now. :/
(https://i.imgur.com/oMwMlpu.jpg)
-
This is very cool - the gribblies are fantastic.
-
Now that is a rather beautiful piece of work.

Great job! That's one impressive structure!

Thanks guys, you're all very generous given it's a tin on a box... lol
-
I'd be the first to admit I've got carried away with this "quick-single-weekend-build". I liked it so far but thought with the chimney that big the building was a bit too small to be a power station or atmosphere processor. So I've added another floor, and magnetised it so the chimney section stays in place...

Had a play with some contrast paints. Picked some alien mini's for it so whatever the outcome it could be excused as being alien.
Very much in two minds about the outcome, yes it was quick and did give it some contrast but it's very inconsistant. Also tried a red one but that didn't seem to work at all. I'll likely give both another try but I'm not convinced of their usefulness... just me?
-
Results with contrasts seem to be very mixed, I've seen some amazing ones and a load of meh ones.
Oh yeah, liking the expansion to the tower of co-fee!
-
Yeah, some of the guys on the 6mil FB groups seem to be doing better, although it might be a case of grass being greener, etc.
Thanks, the tower has slowed but is getting there, can't find my bleeding decals though...
-
Yeah agreed - not massively impressed.
I have a few colours I’d use on 6 or 15mm fully armoured minis. That’s about it.
I’m looking forward to seeing your tower progress!
-
Holy moly 6mmPhil!!
Fantastic stuff! Lovely paint job on them Bugs, good homage to the film!
Didn't know you had a thread. Brave taking on 6mm fantasy I had a go some years back but couldn't hack it, been tempted to do some 6mm sci fi but will wait until most of my 15mm is complete.
-

Thanks. Tbh I found it really easy, those Microworld mini's almost paint themselves...
-
The yellow and the ‘green’ that’s actually blue are very good for that purpose. I found the red a touch too strong.
-
I saw very little contrast with the red, but then again it's 6mil so the detail is a lot smaller and so is any contrast effect.
Haven't had a lot of free time but I did manage to finish these. I had great fun making them, each one is a pair of MDF bases, a piece of plumbing tube, a lid from an empty spice jar, clump foliage (home made) and some putty.

Nice!

Seeing Gunbird's excellent work on https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=113566 (https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=113566) inspired me to take a weekend off from casting to do some scenics.
I've got some Russian buildings which I'm going to try to do so they're suitable for WW2 and fantasy, so started with the bases.
There's one ruin and two, er... not, the "two not" will have vegetable rows, which I've done with a mix of milliput and lines of superglue gel with very fine sand sprinkled on them. Textures are liquid greenstuff and home made basetex (paint, glue, sand). These bases represent a 90x60 foot plot so need a lot of detailing.
-
Oi, Philip, did you just call me a dog? lol Looking forward to seeing this set done, might give me another idea or 2 :)

Whoops! ;D
What in hell is a Gunbird? ???

Whoops! ;D
What in hell is a Gunbird? ???
Gun armed jet or helicopter. Google "Chico the Gunfighter" to see where my inspiration came from many, many moons ago. Also my old profile pic was a machine gun wielding, sigar smoking black crow nose art. What feels ages ago now, I played a lot (and I mean a lot) of Operation Flashpoint in the day and I was always a support character. LMG or Grenadier were /are my preferred roles :)
And now you know ;)
-
I do indeed, makes me wish I had a time machine... ;)
Coat of paint & varnish to bed everything down.
Fence posts and horizontals. I build them long and snip to fit, much quicker. The two buildings to the left are from Total battle, the one on the right from Amphimods.
I got a few of the TB ones so the one in the middle has an extension and batons on the roof so it looks different from the others.
Cut some strips from .5mm styrene sheet. Much cheaper than using the ready bought strips.
-
I'm guessing you use a balsa stripper to get repeated same size lengths of 0.5mm?
-
No, just a scalpel and a steel ruler. I also cut them slightly different widths as it's an irregular effect I'm after.
-

Oh yes, I always do that on, purpose, as well ::)
Looking good, I always love buildings that are a bit more of a diorama than just a block on the table.
-
Mr Sarcasm lives next door, eh? ;D
Me too, but they also have the function of showing who occupies the building, if it's on the building base it's occupying. Always tricky with just the building alone.
A bit of fencing done

Slapped some more paint on, the buildings are almost finished but not quite.

Almost finished them, they need a coat of matte varnish, and so there's still a few pieces of flock in the wrong places but you get the idea.

Very nicely done. How many time do you swear and/or slice the tip of your finger?!

Thanks. Not once I swear. :o

Ended up being approached by Rob at 2D6 about my new builds and some possible others, so I've sold them to him. Happy to see they got a very healthy write up: https://elenderilsblog.blogspot.com/2019/12/first-sight-2d6-anglo-saxon-buildings.html (https://elenderilsblog.blogspot.com/2019/12/first-sight-2d6-anglo-saxon-buildings.html)

Built some sheds, and a chicken coup, not sure about the thatched one. These are off to Richard Novis of Perfect 6 to be cast in metal, can't wait to see them.

Cool new builds! Looking forward to see them cast!

Thanks, me too. 8)
Thought I'd start the year as I'd like to go on, skived a day off and did some more work on the big Atmosphere processor type thing.
There's two big exhausts to go on the blank space bottom right, but they need to be primed before being attached.
Similarly, there's a landing pad to go on the bottom right, but that needs a fair bit of painting before attaching, it'd be a nightmare to do when it's on.
...and a ww2 Stalingrad tram created by the talented Tim Popelier. This was output on an Anycubic Photon and unfortunately it's not of high enough quality to master from... a shame. :(

Glad to see that tram again!
The atmosphere filter stack unit looks great!

Thanks.
Been looking at various scale mini's to serve as a giant for 6mm fantasy. Found one on ebay but didn't like his lack of sartorial elegance so added a fur coat of sorts.

Hah! Well that's the joy of six eh? That's a £30 army, and all I'll need.
Really want to put them up against Indians, or maybe Chinese, does anyone do these in 6mil... no. :/

Got the Atmosphere processor primed, and the landing pad painted. What started as a weekend project, and did produce the top part, it's turned into a beast...

Fits together well, corners are mainly covered by buttresses so not too much detailing to be done on the blank bits. ;)

What material are you using for the basic structure of the buildings? How are you scoring them?
-
Wow. That is really impressive.
It looks like foam board with one side of the paper removed. But only he would know for sure.
-
These are 6mm items, so that would have to be insanely thin foam board. I'm having a hard time deciding if it is styrene sheet that was scored in a way I'm not familiar with, or if it is PVC foam board, in which case I'm curious about how he put the very fine texture on it.
-
It's 1mm foamed PVC, scribed with a steel scriber. The finer texture is from ropey sandpaper, the kind you get from a poundshop. ;)
I've been banging on about foamed PVC for years now, I've simplified my enthusiasm to "It's foam core's older, sexier sister." 8)
-
Thanks, Phil. That looks great. I have mostly just used burnishing tools for working with PVC foam (it is a much sexier version of foam core), but it doesn't give really sharp lines. Looks like I need something between a burnishing tool and a needle point.
-
Thanks. I use something like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-x-SCRIBE-Tool-Tungsten-Engineering-Point-Scriber-Sheet-Carbide-Metal/264503795756 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-x-SCRIBE-Tool-Tungsten-Engineering-Point-Scriber-Sheet-Carbide-Metal/264503795756)
I've picked up a couple, both slightly different. I have an artist chum who does silverpoint, but that's too expensive for me, another option is thin metal rod in a
pin vice which you can sharpen to suit.
-
Splendid stuff :)

Rapier Mongols finished. Left to right, Eight bases of light/medium cavalry, twelve bases of cavalry archers, eight bases of heavy cavalry. Four Command bases. Really sweet sculpts. 289 mini's done in one mind-numbing "block". Bag at a time from now on. 😉 Thanks to other Phil for the virtual painting sessions.

I've been looking for a suitable dropship for a while, typically to carry my two Colonial Marines APCs, and I'd had no luck finding a suitable model of the UD-4 "Cheyenne" Dropship.
I found a Hallmark Christmas tree ornament of the Star Trek DS9 Runaround "USS Rio Grande", available only in the US, and thought it would be perfect
It used to flash and make noises, but I soon put a stop to that.
The scale turned out to be perfect, but I preferred the wings around the other way, makes it look more aggressive.
It was going to need a rear door/ ramp and I dug one out of one of GZG's detailing kits
(https://i.ibb.co/W0d3QQt/02.jpg)
Added the door at the right angle and filled the void with putty.
Made a landing foot, to which I can attach with styrene rod.
Cast up the three I need.

Awesome conversion; it looks spot on 8)
The de-trekification of the ship worked really well too!
And who's to say the Colonial Marines only used the Cheyene as a ride, right? There's bound to be a plethora of ship types in use.
Now to name it... ;)
-
Nice idea, now if I could just find a (very) cheap 28mm version. :?

UD-6 'Mohican'... :D

How did you disassemble the trek ornament? It looks like the structure on top of the body is pried off. Then that holds the wings on?
-
How did you disassemble the trek ornament? It looks like the structure on top of the body is pried off. Then that holds the wings on?
Yes. The piece in the top left was gently prised off. The wings are held firm by two screws at the rear of the main body, with another screw which partly holds the main body together. ;)
-
Mine is all glued together! I will have to cut all the wires in order to allow enough movement to pry the remaining sections. The glue job or the glue itself is poor but there are some areas which are proving "interesting" mainly getting the upper and lower fuse to separate and the "wings" to come loose. Again I think I am fighting the wires as on mine they are just long enough plus they may be hot glued or held with a thick glue like silicone glue or shoe goo, etc.. Not fun so I do a bit then walk away before I pry too hard. I still have to resign myself to cutting wires. There is a speaker but when I activated mine no sound so I guess my prying has broken that already.
-
I deffo hacked all the wires and binned all that. The key is getting the topmost piece off, but if it's all glued that will be a pain. Extremes of heat might help, freeze it or drop it in very hot water?
Good Luck! ;)
-
The top popped off easily, except a couple pins stayed glued and broke. The pain is separating the main fuselage halves and getting the "wings" off and I assume, based on appearance, that is because of the wiring. Time to bite the bullet of no return. My luck I will probably find a dozen next week in the Dollarama!
Speaking of which I picked up a bunch of hot wheels lander/X wing combos from there a couple years ago. I found the lander, it appears to carry about a squad or two in 6mm. The X wing comes with a clear plastic ring the kid puts on a finger and the model mounts to that so they can "fly" them around. Neat idea if I was 55 years younger. The X wing looks closer to 10mm, but I am not that big a fan so it may be closer to 6mm. Sorry, it is a first order transporter.
Picture here;

-
Looked at the first order stormtrooper transport again and measured the model and based on the length given in the above image the hot wheels model is about 1:250, so pretty darn good for 6mm/1:300/1:285. It would also work for 8mm and possibly 10mm as well.
Found one out of the packaging and it is longer than I thought. Works out to something like 1:215. Still close enough to 6mm (which can be as large as 8mm).
-
That looks great.
I grabbed a few hotwheels myself, AT-ATs and a few other craft which will all fit in even if they're not spot on with the scale. The ATATs are almost perfect. I've only really worked on one, it's up there somewhere in this thread. I've also tracked down some old Starship Trooper toys by Galoob. Perfect for my needs. Currently working on a Thunderbird 2 model... small trader here I come.
e2a: Found a pic...
-
Thunderbird 2, oooohhhh tell me more. I had a die cast model back in the '60s, Dinky I think. What have you got for 6mm?
I visited the UK with my mom as a kid (I was 7) and we didn't have the Thunderbirds over here yet. Left a big impression. I have quite a few episodes from the original series on DVD, plus the "New" movie (about 2005 or so?). Lots of fun and my younger son became a fan and watches the original series every now and again as a late teen. I saw on you tube they re-did one of Anderson's series in computer animation, did they do that for Thunder birds as well?
-
I tracked down a plastic toy on Ebay.
I've just rewatched the entire series on DVD. There's been a few more modern animated versions of a few of the Anderson progs, they're typically best avoided, my pet peeves are the redesigns, and the CGI. Just doesn't work on the character level either.
Just finished this scratchbuilt model of ST Martin's in Canterbury as it looked in the 7th century.

I was lucky enough to have a commission from https://rapierminiatures.com (https://rapierminiatures.com)Rapier Miniatures for their new French Foreign Legion range, but generic enough to be suitable for a lot of genres
and periods.
The pieces needed were specified by Rapier, so I set to drawing out plans, cutting them out and having a play.

A resize and another play.

I'm making this mainly from foamed PVC
(https://i.ibb.co/CWbQhyC/20220204-152709.jpg)
One consideration I took into account was the use of based figures, there are lots of sizes, but I settled on being able to get two 60x30 bases to sit on each wall section, with a slight overhang.
The mini's in the pic are Rapier Indian Archers, on a 1mm base with a .75mm magnet underneath, so short for the average base height.
