OZLAM 2015!
The inaugural Australian LAF is being planned for 2015,date or where,as yet unknown? It will be held in NSW at least :)
We have Furt,Constable Bertrand and my good self running the organisation of which will hopefully be a two day event.
As far as games go; I am planning a retro sci-fi game using the Dead Mans Hand system and possibly a fantasy Mordheim type game on the second day.
This is of course an open invitation to all LAF members,so who's interested? Once we get a few numbers up we can plan on where and when.
Here is a list of those going so far:
Blackwolf
Furt
Constable Bertrand
Starkadder
Vladimir Raukov
Lawful Evil
Possibles:
Stu
Etranger
Cheero
Wolfie
-
Bout BLOODY time - come on Aussie!! lol
Well done Guy for getting the ball rolling. Would really like to see as many NSW based LAFers as possible put their hands up in support of this. If any interstaters can make it, even better.
This event can only be successful if we have people willing to commit their time and effort.
Let's see a show of hands all.

Good luck gents :)

That's the idea James :)

Good luck :)
-
You little ripper. I'm in.
Ill either run:
- SSS (gotta make the most of all the effort ive put in ;) )
- A western with guys DMH? I haven't used those rules yet
- A cavern crawl against goblins. Using "Cavern Crawl" ruleset? If i pull my finger out in the new year and make cave tiles.
- Dust Tactics: Axis Vs SSU?
Cheers
Matt

If it's in NSW for sure I'll get off my arse and finish the modular boards I've started for Resident Evil skirmish using modified FUBAR rules. I hate navigating Sydney but I doubt there's much chance it'll be held anywhere else?
a retro sci-fi game using the Dead Mans Hand system
That sounds grouse!
-
Well.....
I'm in, Guy.
-
Thumbs up and good luck to you chaps. Had I the air miles....... :D
-
If it's in Sydney then myself and the wife will seriously look at flying over.

We could hold it at Badgery's Creek?* :D
Cheers
Matt
*A NSW injoke: They have been trying to place a 2nd airport in sydney for decades with the Creek tipped as the preferred location

No problems, Air New Zealand is trying to close our local airport, it costs nearly as much to fly to Auckland from here as it does from Auckland to Sydney.
-
If its in Sydney somewhere I be there. Never been before and missed out this year as I was out of town that weekend.

Well if international is cheaper... sounds like a good reason to me :D
-
Well that's a few of us to start.
I don't think it would be remiss if we were to PM any Aussies we know on LAF and make sure they are aware of this post.
I guess it might be good if Guy could edit the first post to reflect who has put up their hands already and also maybe if they are willing to run anything.
At this stage i can do Blood on the Sands easily enough, could even manage two arenas simultaneously if necessary, unless I am able to put on something a little grander.
-
Love to attend but it Gallipoli and Waterloo for us next year. :)
-
with so many talented OZ-umites
I can't wait to see the outcome. It'll surely be a blast!
Good Luck with that!
-
There were already two LAM`s in Germany former user.
2010 and 2012
We call it GLAM.
You can see the reports at Matakishis Tea House.
Anyway... good luck again for OZLAM
Cheers

I seriously hadn't noticed - maybe something could be done with GLAM 2015?
I was still somewhat weary and sad with the Partisan 2014 situation...
apologies
-
I'd be up for that!
-
inaugural Australian LAF
hooray!
be held in NSW at least
boo!
Seriously, hope it goes well.
-
Yeah, I'm probably out for next year.
However, I hope to get a Melbourne LAF meet up happening at Little Wars Melbourne.
-
Well... If our sun burnt country is so big.. Perhaps we hold an OZLAM day, whereby each state holds a meet?
-
Given enough warning on the date I can probably wander over to visit the convicts...... ;)
-
Keep OZLAM in one place. It'll be like diluting beer otherwise. Nothing stops OZLAM moving around in later years.
-
Yes, I'd say keep it together even though I'd be no chance of making it to Sydney for it.
-
List added of those going; I have an idea that if we can get at least 10 members,OZLAM is a go :)
-
Rather than a separate event, I would advocate going into one or several of the larger events (Cancon, MOAB, Melbourne etc) but as a distinct entity (the LAF Zone) where the LAF people can spruik their games, demos and general LAFery without being exposed to the horrendous costs of staging.
As it becomes more successful and well-regarded, that's when you kick the trainer wheels off and go it alone.

I was present at MOAB and played Constable Bertrand's wonderful game along with Vladimir Raukov and I'd have to disagree that these events are ideal for a LAF get together. I believe their was no other takers to play Matt's game on the day, which was a real surprise to me, considering that it looked great and was a lot of fun.
Everyone else seemed too hung up on their Warhammer competition or grabbing a bargain from the B&B to bother, which is a real shame.
If we hold this as a LAF only event, we know all who attend are there to play games and have fun, amongst like minded individuals. We also get to talk shop. I don't see OZLAM as a place where we have to spruik for support or members, quite the opposite. I'd prefer a small dedicated group over a large gawking crowd any day.
As Guy has said, about 10 hands up and I reckon we are good to go.
-
I doubt I would be able to attend, but think it's a great idea :D
Cheers,
Barry

Well, I'd like to officially put my hand up and commit to this. If it's happening in NSW I'll be there, with a game to play.
I was present at MOAB...
I agree with everything said here.

This.
I think the success of BLAM and other local LAF meets is to get people together for a laugh over a game.
People who like making terrain/games, and people who like looking at nice terrain up close. It provides an opportunity to try different rule sets and have fun.
With time and effort it takes to run a game/cart terrain across Australia, you'd want it to be used and enjoyed.
I would want the event to be as cheap as possible with a BYO to share attitude (I dont expect we are all made of money - thats why my scenery is made from lollypop sticks and foamcore), but perhaps a ticketing system would be good to enable us to plan games/approximate individuals to cater for.
The venue may also need a hire fee?! so a ticket could cover that - but a community hall may be cheaper than a RSL/PUB function room... unless someone has a big house/games room ;) Depending on people we could book a large house for a weekend and use the function room as a games room.
So my location checklist would include:
Close to airport (interstate/national?)
Quiet season/location - cheaper accomodation
Canberra? Goulburn? Sydney Suburbs? Dubbo/country town?
Cheers

Having attended several dedicated LAF meets or LAMs in both Britain and Germany, I'd say that sums it up perfectly. None of the LAF meets I've been to are remotely like a convention, show, or indeed a wargames club meet. They have all been so much better, in so many ways. I really hope you're able to get this together, because I think you'll find it well worth the effort. :)

Bit of a confused foreigner question for you chaps, but what does 'spruik' mean ???
cheers

Verb
spruik (third-person singular simple present spruiks, present participle spruiking, simple past and past participle spruiked)
(transitive, Australia) To promote a thing or idea to another person.
WOW - didn't realise this was "Australian".

And this is exactly what I personally would want from our OZLAM too - something a cut above the typical. I can get that kind of company elsewhere. :)
-
Cheers Frank :)
Interesting stuff and I've certainly never heard of it over here. I'm assuming it's pronounced as it's spelt?
cheers
James
-
Hyde Park speaker/orator would be a spruiker.

You'd get by with Sprue - king (as in plastic sprue)

This :)
I want this to be a friendly meet up,with no stress, fun games; a 'LAF' meeting with all that, I believe that entails.
-
Unfortunately, living way out West in Perth, accommodation and airfares required to fly across my own country makes it cheaper for me to go to Singapore, so I don't think I'll be able to make it.
But then, anything can happen....
-
Good luck with the con, fellas! I wouldn't get into the country (or I just assume), but I hope you have a nice one!
-
But then, anything can happen....
That's the spirit lethallee. When's the last time you been to the big East Coast mate?
-
we could all get flights to SE Asia for cheap. Why not hold it there? I have seen flights like $189 one way and accom is peanuts. So something like vietnam and visit the old defences along the DMZ as well. We could even go shoot some RPG's, they let you have fun like that there.
As long as its not patpong or kuta.
Why don't we line that up for the second or third OZLAM? Maybe get one off the ground first? I'd be concerned about the cost of getting all the game boards etc. over there.
-
Have I missed something, as I still cannot see a date for this event?
If you want to meet up at Little Wars Melbourne (31st May 2015) we will happily give you space, just let us know what you want.
Always interested to get an idea of what is happening here in Australia. So please keep me updated.

Good stuff! I'm beginning to have a good feeling about this :D

Thanks for the reply, I'll keep my eyes and ears open for a Sydney date being announced.
If anyone wants to do anything in Melbourne as well, our offer for space at LWM still stands.
