Title: Shooty, shooty, pew pew: Adventures in the wastes.
Post by: Vladimir Raukov on November 21, 2014, 12:48:41 AM
Every now and again (although not as often as I'd like) Constable Bertrand and I get together to play Scavenge Skirmish Survive. It's fun, brutal, I die a lot and if you want to try it for yourself, the rules are over here: http://tinyurl.com/ltdqqmh

Of course, a game like this wouldn't be quite as fun without miniatures, so here's some of mine. Be warned though, I'm one of those people who comes up with backstories to nearly anything I paint, so this may take a while.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0633.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0633.jpg.html)
This first group shot was my first gang, Wildfire's Wanderers. They're a group of scavvers/merchants who mostly hang around each other for no reason other than cash and food. Smashing up raiders is just a happy bonus.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0636.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0636.jpg.html)
(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0623.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0623.jpg.html)
Wildfire Magni here was the son of a merchant. With caps flowing for most of his life, he grew strong and surprisingly well-fed. Eventually, he left his dad's caravan to try and make it on his own. He's had mixed results, but I for one am rooting for him.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0615.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0615.jpg.html)
(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0617.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0617.jpg.html)
Takeshi '86' Sakamoto was Wildfire's first recruit. He comes from vault 286, but due to a clerical error, they ended up with a bunch of jumpsuits from vault 86 by mistake. His vault's only form of entertainment were chop-socky kung-fu flicks and having known no other way, he lives by a strict code of honour...and his mouth doesn't move in sync with his words. It's freaky.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0618.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0618.jpg.html)
(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0619.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0619.jpg.html)
Sister Seraphica is a member of the Sable Sisters, an all-female group dedicated to empowering ordinary wastelanders by recovering technology and educating others in its proper uses. She often butts heads with 86 over what is defined as a 'proper' use for something, but she is still a welcome member to the team.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0620.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0620.jpg.html)
(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0621.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0621.jpg.html)
Whenever Wildfire got in over his head, The Gentleman was always there to help him out. Wildfire eventually trapped the eccentric, tea loving adventurer and 'convinced' him to join up. Nobody knows what's under his mask, but given what effects the wastelands can have on people, it probably isn't pretty...

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0613.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0613.jpg.html)
(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0614.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0614.jpg.html)
This Joe. Joe smash. You hurt Joe's friends? You get smash.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0611.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0611.jpg.html)
(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0612.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0612.jpg.html)
This is Kenneth. He was saved from mutation by his big brother Joe when he tied a piece of his singlet around Kenneth's face. Since then, the two have been inseparable. Wildfire originally only wanted to recruit Joe into his band, but Joe wouldn't come unless Kenneth could too. He is talented in hacking networks and finding things that other people have lost. He also owns ten whole copies of Grognar the Barbarian with only one or two bullet holes in them.

That's my first crew, but there will be plenty more pictures to come!

Sweet! Love the backgrounds you built.  I use Pulp Alley, but SSS looks interesting.  How does it flow?

You get smash.

Yes you do. His meat club hurts. I know from experience. Joe also has a way with dogs, they seem to flock to him.

Great photos Vlad! They really show off your cool minis. Im excited to see more :D

Cheers

Cheers! I'm not quite sure what you mean by flow, but I've found that even with my poor memorizing skills, the action rarely stops. The random special events pop in a twist or two that often leads me to reconsider the way I'll take care of the mission at hand. *coughoutofammocough*

Those are really nice! :o

Cheers! I have some other pictures ready to go, so I'll most likely post them up after work tomorrow.

Cheers! The Gentleman was a gift of sorts from Bertrand. I knew almost immediately what his personality was going to be. I think he's won more fights with his umbrella than his pistol.

Oh you sure do know how hurty his club hand is! Good thing I used it to save Kiko that one time, eh?

Hey swine and silver, if you check my blog there are some bat reports on SSS. The good news is the ruleset is a free download so try it out!

It's driven by D10's with weapon/damage charts. Turn sequences are a randomised I go you go system, based on drawing cards which also trigger special events. Roughly once a turn.

Cheers
Matt.

And now as promised, more things!

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0744.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0744.jpg.html)

These fellows are The Desert Dogs. They're not as tight knit as my other gangs. They're more of a loose conglomeration of people who share a love of shooting things. Bertrand asked me to paint them before MOAB, but I only got half of them done.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0751.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0751.jpg.html)

This is Eli Tome. He isn't really affiliated with the others, he just shows up sometimes.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0753.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0753.jpg.html)

Ash 'n Gazza constantly try to outdo one another in the art of bandit hunting. You might even say that they want to be the very best. After all, when it comes to bandits, you've gotta catch 'em all!

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0750.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0750.jpg.html)

These three military types are the core of the Dogs. On the left is Private Ryan, the middle one just goes by 'Commander' and the one on the left is Private L. Jenkins. You'll never guess which one causes the most trouble...

Ooh yeah! Nicely done mate.  :-*  :-*  :-*

The militia turned out well. I do like their rusty metal jackets.

Eli is a Lead Adventure mini, Ash and Gary are TAG and not sure on the mercenaries, all via Silent Steve ;)

Hi folks

Hadn't commented yet as I was so enjoying the SSS plaudits i didn't want to risk bringing on any brickbats  lol

Matt, all I know about those minis is that they are early sculpts by Kev White. Glad they've found a use.

Oh and welcome VR   :)

Cheers! I wasn't sure how well it'd turn out, but it worked out pretty well in the end. The eagle eyed among you might notice that Private Jenkins has differently-coloured shoes. Hey, it's rough in the wastes.

Thanks for having me and making this system! It's tough, but super satisfying when good stuff happens.

Ask and ye shall receive, friend! There's a lot of pictures here, but there's even more story behind this gang...

Back in the day, I played an MMO called City of Heroes. When it closed down for no reason, I was pretty shocked. How could I keep the memories alive from the supergroup that I joined? Why, make teeny tiny versions of every member I could! The Artful Dodgers were a fantastic bunch of friends and there's no way that I can REALLY replicate each character that we had, but that won't stop me from trying.

So without further ado (and if photobukkit has finished uploading) I present to you...The Desert Dodgers!

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0766.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0766.jpg.html)

Operating out of the basement of a textiles factory, this rag-tag bunch of street rats scav to get by and help others like them.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0767.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0767.jpg.html)

Jack Travers is the leader of the gang. Having a rough upbringing herself gave her a skewed view of the world, until she had a chance meeting with Tom 'Juvie' Cooper, who showed her another way. After parting ways with him, she wasn't entirely sure how to make the most of what she had learnt, until she found the factory. Since then, she and her trusty six-shooters have sought out injustice and tried to make things better.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0772.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0772.jpg.html)

Zerk's parents were killed by ghouls. Any time he sees them, this usually well-mannered young man goes into a berserk rage and will not stop until any ghoul in the vicinity stops moving. Jack saved him from being a Zerk sandwich at the last possible moment and he has never forgotten that kindness. Rumor has it that he has a bit of a crush on her.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0781.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0781.jpg.html)
(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0784.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0784.jpg.html)

Grace Callows was the sole survivor of a bandit raid in her town. Jack only showed up to pick through the remains, but gained a little sister in the process. Grace insists that she has a sister who she hasn't seen in years, but has no idea where to look for her. Good luck, Gracie!

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0787.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0787.jpg.html)

Mental Mick, A.K.A. The Duct Tape Wizard was found wondering an old asylum, muttering to himself and repairing the security systems with duct tape. Some of them even worked! Jack immediately recognized the hidden talent within and recruited him on the spot. That backpack? Full of duct tape. He can survive just about any situation with that stuff.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0797.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0797.jpg.html)
(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0805.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0805.jpg.html)

Nobody's sure who or what Whip actually is (or why it was so hard to take a photo of him) but if the rumors are true, his parents were about as close to heroes as the wastelands could hope for. When he saw them die, he ran and didn't stop, slowly mutating and losing the ability to talk. He's an expert and sneaking and stealing, both excellent attributes to be had in a group of scavvers (if you know who it's okay to steal from) Also yes, that is a tail.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0806.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0806.jpg.html)

81G-R154H413, or 'Big Richie' was an old robot that Jack found in one of the back corners of the basement. She managed to reactivate him, but it wasn't until Mick joined that he was able to walk again. Since then, he has served as a guard dog of sorts, almost constantly patrolling the grounds unless there's scavvin' to do.

All the models were from Malifaux, except for Whip. He's from Bushido.

 :-* well done Pete.

Cracking figures there and the stories are so cool. I have nothing near that for my figures.

Man Big Richie came up well. What a machine you have there. 8) 8) 8) zerk is pretty cool too,  ooh ooh and Ductape Mic sounds like a roll of laughs.

You have 3 awesome bands of 'trouble' makers.

Cheers, Bero! It took me forever to get his colour right, which was probably a good thing. Gave me more time to unite their stories.

This is astounding!

Your ability to bring forth some of the wildly divergent personality found in a long running RPG character group into a cohesive wargames unit.

Looking on the computer I just noticed that Jack has some heart embroidery on her trouser cuffs and hat band. You might be able to pick that out in gold or white. ;)

Nothing like blowing up the miniature 300% to find extra bits you hadn't properly observed before hahahaha

Well I did have to tweak most of them slightly to fit into the unit, but thanks nonetheless!

I return! What gifts do I bring for you this time?

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0810.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0810.jpg.html)

Monkeys! I don't know what posessed me to paint them, but since they came with this guy http://tinyurl.com/mqwo6uq, I couldn't just leave them.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0811.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0811.jpg.html)

The first one's a standard monkey. Brown fur, pink face, very tiny eyes.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0812.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0812.jpg.html)

I originally planned to have this one sitting on top of a pile of rocks with a small waterfall, but I nearly went mad trying to stack the rocks up, so I gave up. That's not to say I won't try later. I really like how his base turned out. It was just green stuff and an old toothbrush to make that effect.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN0815.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN0815.jpg.html)

Finally, we have robomonkey. Why? Because there's always robots in the future. Also, that piece of green is definately a plant grimly holding onto life in a harsh environment and not a piece of green stuff that I somehow missed until now. Yep, totally meant to be there.

I tried to keep the graffiti/"outsider art" fairly generic so that even fantasy fellas like this knight can get in on the fun.

Some of the ice cream stick posts ended up a little tall, but there's plenty of spots to peek through. Makes it easy to hide from incoming fire, too.

That ladder was an absolute pain to paint. In hindsight, I probably could have have left it off until the painting was done.

And here's a skull because why not.

Looks really good, you have taken some very nice photo too to do it justice!  :-*  :-*
A very useful terrain piece sir.

Eli is a Lead Adventure mini, Ash and Gary are TAG and not sure on the mercenaries, all via Silent Steve ;)

I'm sure the mercenaries are from the "Sabotage-Into the Dark" game from "The Figure Trader", long gone  ;)

Well technically there's three skulls and I'd have added more, but the laws of physics be a harsh mistress...

Good to know! I wasn't sure where they'd come from either.

After a long hiatus (I went to england and got distracted) I return!

Last year, Berty got me a plane. Took me a while, but I eventually got it done!

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN1937.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN1937.jpg.html)

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN1938.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN1938.jpg.html)

I might have gone a little overboard on the rust, but I reckon it turned out okay.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN1943.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN1943.jpg.html)

It's surprising what a little foam and some paint can do in a pinch.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN1947.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN1947.jpg.html)

So, how do you stop an enemy plane from shooting at you? Use a bigger gun, of course!

I like the effect you achieved on the propeller and the white nose cone! Very cool. Now there is a plane to go with your control tower! :)

Cheers Bero! We'll need to have a meet up soon so you can see it in person (and not just so I can hold your bub and say how cute she is)

And now for something slightly different:

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN1952.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN1952.jpg.html)

Cyberman, robot or crazy man in a suit? Do you dare get close enough?

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN1953.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN1953.jpg.html)

Not bad for a simple drybrush job. Picked him up last year in England from The Who Store.

Now for the main event: the screamers, a crazy, mutated gang who live to cause mayhem and spread their mutagenic gasses around. Let's meet them!

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN1955.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN1955.jpg.html)

Jethro Tollman is the leader of this gang. Ask not for whom the bell tolls...because it's actually a gun.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN1957.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN1957.jpg.html)

Nobody's quite sure who (or what) Birdo really is, but he(?) has a big gun and big ideas. Also, the last person to question his(?) position as 2IC ended up in three separate ditches.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN1960.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN1960.jpg.html)

Tink is the gang's weaponsmith. He's dangerous and unstable, but also probably the most likely to be reasoned with. Don't diss his name though, because anyone with the confidence to be called Tink in such a dangerous time has got the ability to take you down. Painfully.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN1963.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN1963.jpg.html)

Sucker has just about the worst luck. After inhaling an insane amount of mutagen, he found himself unable to breathe without it, as well as a couple of new eyes. On the plus side, he as a pretty sweet gun now.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN1966.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN1966.jpg.html)

Maniac has abandoned all pretense of refined combat. Just wind him up and watch him turn the enemy into a fine paste. Jethro keeps him around because he's too crazy to try stabbing his leader in the back.

I used to be the worst of the worst-a slaver. If I could make caps off you, I could find a buyer. If not, well let's say you'd better have lived without regrets. That all changed the day I met Mona.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN2008.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN2008.jpg.html)

It was meant to be a simple smash and grab job. You know the kind, grab some people, smash up the place, sell 'em off to the highest bidder. Only one we got for our trouble was Mona. Despite the way my men treated her, she was still willing to forgive us. Couldn't let someone like that get sold, someone with the ability to forgive, so we left my men behind.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN2009.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN2009.jpg.html)

We went back to her hometown. Folks had a gun to m' head for ages, but eventually people accepted that I changed. Felt wierd at first, behin' all honest, but I got used to it.

Then one day, I woke up to find her dead in the barn. Lookin' at the wounds, there's only one person besides the old me who'd do that, so now I'm gonna find my old gang and take them down...'course, bullets are hard to come by these days, so I might well have to club 'em, not that I mind.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN2015.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN2015.jpg.html)

This is Jackie "deemo" Gunner, another one of my artful dodger friends from city of heroes. This one was a bit of a challenge, since I needed either a really big gun or a flame sword to properly represent the character. A few models had a big gun, but just didn't feel right, until Berty convinced me to join in a purchase from eureka miniatures.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN2016.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN2016.jpg.html)

As soon as I saw this guy in their indian children set, I knew I'd be able to do something with him, but what? The easy answer was a shiskebab, a la fallout 3.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN2013.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN2013.jpg.html)

Now our young mutant friend is free to wander the wastes, exacting revenge on bandits, slavers and anyone who looks at him funny. I actually finished him a while ago, but I couldn't get a good photo from the front for some reason.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN2032.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN2032.jpg.html)

This is one of two imperial guard sentinels I picked up last year at MOAB (I paint slow, okay?) I tried a spot of desert camo on this one, but I might need a bit more practice. At least it looks plenty dirty!

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN2020.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN2020.jpg.html)

This one, I got a bit more creative with. I present to you: the chickadee!

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN2023.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN2023.jpg.html)

A merchant found this walker abandoned in a shed. After years of trading, painting and the occasional non-lethal explosion, the machine roared to life. He was shot moments later because not having a bulletproof windshield in the wasteland is a bad idea.

(http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae184/peterjbrennan/DSCN2024.jpg~original) (http://s970.photobucket.com/user/peterjbrennan/media/DSCN2024.jpg.html)

Now it sits in the wastes, waiting its next pilot.

The blood on the yellow one is especially good, you've had a fair bit of practice with blood splatters hey, they certainly look pretty realistic.

This is Skunk. When given the option of working the mutie mines (that's where mutants are forced to mine what resources are left, not where you go to dig up new mutants) or fighting in the ever-brutal arena, he picked the latter option.

The model itself comes from http://www.ex-manus.com/store/product/aspiring-gladiator. I accidentally snapped off the bandanna's original cloth tail, but a spot of green stuff means that nobody would have noticed if I didn't type this sentence.

Next up we have...goff rockers! These miniatures really encapsulate the silliness that I feel is missing from a lot of wargames these days.

Except you, malifaux. I see you over there with yer gremlins.

Our first ork we have here is Syd da Vishus. Syd likes long walks through the wastelands, romantic radiation-lit dinners, general anarchy and beating the living daylights out of anyone who looks at him funny.

I love how simple, yet detailed this model is. It's even got sleeve zippers!

Next up we have the lead singer of this little band, Da Slasha. I'm not sure if he knows that the mic isn't plugged in, but he's plenty loud without it.

I'm super happy with how the back turned out. The pants? I'm about 50/50 on those.

It's a...lizard? I think?

Last up, we have Ozzee. While not the lead singer, he is certainly the most showy, springing for an entire hair squig.

What does he need all those bullets for? Those monster guns of course! Pew pew!

Spiders!

These are some of the D&D miniatures that came out a while ago. They're pre-primed, which is fantastic for an impatient little snot like me and aside from a few fiddly areas, they were pretty easy to paint up. I'd recommend them without much hesitation.

This was meant to go on one of the spider bases, but I just thought it was good enough to put on a spare base on its own. Corpse markers are fun!

Well, it appears I'm on a roll...

I picked these up for five bucks at MOAB this year. They were already undercoated and ready to paint, so why not?

I still don't know what that red box is for.

Judging by the spess mhrens and prevalence of skulls, I can safely conclude that this was built for 40k.

Who's this? Why, it's Baharroth, Lord of the Wind!

I originally planned to picked this model up from the GW website, but I found the metal version at moab for five bucks. Say it with me kids: winner winner, chicken dinner.

The nodes on the back here weren't supposed to be gemstones, but it's hard to tell with eldar minis! They're covered in round, nobby bits!

I figured that a noble individual like Baharroth wouldn't allow even one inch of dirt onto his armour for long, so I kept him cleaner than the dust of this strange, radiation soaked version of Terra that he finds himself on. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Cheers! I would have been done faster, but when it comes to eldar, it's hard to tell the difference between 'things that are gems' and 'things that are not gems.'  lol

And speaking of gems...

I had no miniatures for a while, then suddenly dog.

This furry fella's name is Eleven, the postal dog. Bandits, ghouls and even super mutants leave this intrepid pupper be as he makes his deliveries across the wasteland, for to impede him is to invite death.

Not rain, hail, sleet or radioactive dust storms shall prevent this dog from carrying out his duties and Legend of Zelda references.

Love the dog. Wonderfully done.

Cheers! It was quite pleasant to paint.

Now for something that was less pleasant. I wasn't sure what to do with him at first, so I made him part of The Artful Dodgers, which I started a page or two ago.

Alejandro, or 'Az' as his friends call him is a scavver, just like his father. Unlike his father, he doesn't care if the gear he scavs is buried in the dirt or belongs to some wussy 'vaultie.'

Like many members of post-apocalyptica, Az has been alone for a while, but he gets by with the scavving skills that his dad passed on to him. He would have kept stealing from whoever, until he tried to pick the pockets of one Jack Travers.

After catching him, Jack offered Az a choice: join her, get handed over to the local law enforcers for theft, or get punched in the gut. If he'd known how hard Jack could punch, he probably would have joined her straight away. Now, he's a member of The Artful Dodgers. Hey, at least he's got a place to sleep of a night, so that's nice.

The model itself was a Malifaux Child. I left this picture fuzzy because it has issues, just like the model. The arms are tiny and hard to work with and the head was in two sections. There was no apparent reason for the head to be in two sections, but it was.

He is a good boy. It's a tad fiddly to reach some parts of the model, but that might be more a testament to the state of my brushes and skill than the model itself. Enjoy him!

This is a true statement.

And speaking of one piece metals...

I made a purchase from Eureka Miniatures.

Mohammed set his plank of wood down in the market and sighed. Sure, the scavvers traded fairly with him, but who would want to buy this pre-war junk? Sure, he'd have a few lookie-loos, but if he didn't make a sale soon...

Despite the tiny merchandise, this guy was surprisingly fun to paint once I got into it.

But he's not all I've been painting.

Now we've got this father and son team. Are they scavvers? Townsfolk walking home from a hard day of trading? The truth probably lies somewhere in between...

This was the second photo I took from this angle. Kind of glad I did since the first photo didn't focus on the kid! Cameras are funny sometimes. I wonder what's caught his attention?

Their backs could have turned out better, but they're good enough for me.

What's that? Do you think I'm done? Oh no my friend...

These two boys might not have a proper ball, but they'll play football with whatever comes to hand...or foot, as the case may be.

'What? I didn't tackle-oof!'

Can you tell I don't paint dark skin very often?

I probably should have dusted his shorts up a little more, but eh.

Finally in today's plethora of uploads, we have this boy who's clearly not too 'tyred' to play.

I wasn't sure what colour to make his clothes, but somehow I decided on my old primary school uniform. How those survived a nuclear blast is beyond me...

I'm not sure why, but I think this kid's name is Simon.

Given the brush I used, I reckon the dirt on the tyre came up pretty well.

The group is called the Africa Market Trinket Stall. Overall, they were nice miniatures to paint and at a good price too. I probably could have done better on the bases, but they're good enough for me. They'll be the perfect NPCs for harassing, haranguing and generally getting in the way of PCs during games.

What's this? A penguin? With a balloon? In the desert? Yeah, okay.

When the zookeepers didn't show up one day, an enterprising penguin tied an errant balloon to himself and succeeded in something that no other penguin had managed-he floated just high enough to leave his enclosure and search for more tasty fish.

What will he find on his quest? Adventure? Glory? Tasty, tasty fish? Only time will tell...

Model was a sample sent out with my order from eureka miniatures. It was fun to paint, except for the part where I dropped it on the floor and nearly went mad reattaching the balloon.

Look! Up in the sky! It's Bhudda! It's Jesus! It's...a gently floating penguin?

Cute.

Is he called Feathers McGraw?

What? No! Absolutely not!

...Well, it wasn't before.

One thing that probably isn't cute in the same way as Feathers up there is this...kid? Kids? Anyway, here's James and Tom. James is the blondie and Tom is the darker haired fellow. They bicker now and again, but they always make up in time. It's not like they can go separate ways, after all.

Brother-James?

What is it now, my deeply-jawed brother?

I'm bored, brother-James. Can we play a game?

Ooh, a game. I like this idea. What one should we play?

How about shoot and scream?

That is an uncharacteristically good idea, brother. Now, where did we leave the ray gun?

Miniature is The Flapper Twins from Eureka Miniatures. They're not bad kids, they just never had anyone to tell them that pointing a loaded and moderately unstable ray gun isn't everyone's idea of a good time. The base was probably from a warhammer mini that I took off. All I know is that it was all cracked and lumpy when I found it in my bits box, which suited the boys perfectly.

Well, it took me WAY too long to paint these guys. Not because of any particular difficulty, I was just flooded with assignments and life and blah.

Some people might wonder why I paint so many kids for such a seemingly hopeless world as post-apocalypse Australia, but to them I say:

1) Shut up, I'll paint what I want.

2) Why bother risking your neck in an irradiated wasteland if humanity is going to die in a few years?

It would've taken forever to take every shot of every kid (and then upload them) so I've just included a few highlights.

Hailing from a vault whose number has been lost due to poor data management and shoddy vault suit construction, these kids make the most of the hand-me-downs they receive.

Some get more hand-me-downs than others.

That's about it...for now.

Watch out, I think we've been spotted!

This is Tom Cooper, aka Juvie. He's another one of the guys I sort of knew back when City of Heroes was still a thing and by sort of knew, we met one time. Kind unfortunate, since he was one of our group's founders.

As for this particular Juvie, he grew up as part of a bandit gang. Despite never knowing his parents, he knew that banditry wasn't right. One night, he tried to escape, but was captured. In his panic, he reached for a stick, hoping to use it as a weapon. Imagine his surprise when a metal blade flew out of each end!

After dispatching his former comrades (or at least making them run off) Juvie wondered without a sense of purpose. Eventually, he found some teenagers trying to hunt down a mole rat, but they weren't having much luck. With his experience, they soon had a mighty (if slightly bullet riddled) feast.

Realizing that some people didn't have the same 'luck' that he did as a kid, Juvie found an old police station and began setting up The Artful Dodgers, the skeeviest bunch of scavvers, smart-mouths and shooters that the wasteland had ever seen. Also, there's robots.

The model is reaper's Harrix Fireblood. I mistook the hand crossbow on his back for a gun, so he ended up a post-apoc scavver instead of a magic user. About the worst part of the model is the giant lump of metal under the feet - I had to get a new set of bases so that it wouldn't stick over the edge too much!

I'm back with a new model!

This is DX-TR. If he was ever human, there's little evidence of it now. What remains of his skin is grey and tight over his bones and the only time he leaves his bunker is to collect scrap for science.

Even travelling with his lightning spear, there are dangers to be found in the wastes, resulting in a slightly bent spear head.

Some say that he is being stalked by a robot named D33-D33, who constantly interferes with his experiments, but is otherwise harmless. He blames it for his disconnection from other members of the Cult of Mars.

I got this model from Constable Bertrand. I'm not sure where it's from, but I immediately decided it should be a tech priest.

I have so little left, yet I must paint!

This little fella is N1N3, a fully modular service droid.

Buy your N1N3 now, before they walk out the door! Possessing the fine wood paneling, sturdy metal and flexible rubber, putting together your household companion is as simple as can be!

Need a maid? No problem! Someone to help take care of the kids without complaining? No worries! Need someone to keep you company on those lonely nights? Look elsewhere, creep.

In the event of global nuclear war, these fine units will revert to their scavenge-skirmish-survive protocol, guarding you and yours from the rapid deterioration of society. After all, why should you rebuild your neighborhood when you can destroy everyone around you who won't bow to your superiority and foresight! Don't delay, prepare for society's downfall today!

It's R4x, outfitted with the finest scavenged armour and cybernetics!

Which parts are armour? Which parts are cybernetics? Who knows? All that matters is he's a good, good boy by wasteland standards.

I got this little fella from Constable Betrand for my birthday. No idea where he's from, but he was pretty fun to paint!

That'll be it from me until moab rolls around...in this thread, at least.

Missed some of these updates. Wonderful stuff. Really love the gang of kids.

Thanks! It was an interesting challenge for me to try different skin tones. I still need more practice, but it's worth it to try.

Now, for something relatively different...

It's...

The Complaints Department!

Abandoned in a junkyard, The Complaints Department is a single-person mech that has been patched together and kludged back into working condition so many times that very few of its original parts remain. Nevertheless, it still soldiers on under the commands of whoever pilots it.

Presently, The Complaints Department is owned by a restauranteer, who uses it to deal with difficult cuts of meat...and difficult customers.

That said, it is available for rent at the right price...

It's hard to read from here, but the panel below the tanks says, 'bum.'

Yes, those are nerf missiles. Pack anything with enough explosives and it'll do the job.

The model's an old ork dreadnaught that I found at moab this year for $15. I kept a couple if parts off which will make their appearance down the track sometime. The base is from Micro Art Studios.

Cheers! It was more fun that I expected to build.

Brilliant minis, lots of character.

Cheers! I find it's more fun to paint things when there's a good bit of character behind them

And speaking of character...

I painted another thing! This is The Foxy Sniper, a jovial thief roaming the post-apocalypse with a smile on his face and a heart on his bullet (it didn't show up that well in the picture, but it's there.

Rather than kill anyone guarding shiny things, this french-accented thief prefers to isolate and disable the guards. No point performing for a dead audience, right?

The model is Ex Manus Studios' Risu - Wasteland Marksman. I based the colour scheme on Le Foxy Archier, a character I teamed up with a few times back in City of Heroes.

Looks like we have some (slightly fuzzy) eldar sneaking up on us!

What brings them to this irradiated wasteland is beyond me, but it must be important for them to leave their craftworld.

Two of the higher ranked members of this party have unusual equipment. The one toting two long rifles is usually seen near the one with a pistol, since he needs to bail the former out of some bind more often than not.

The models are of course, GW dire avengers. I tried out a few new things on these models and while I did hurt myself a little doing some of the edges, I'm pretty happy with how they turned out...although if this keeps up, I'll probably start a future wars thread for my eldar lads.

Here we have three wandering lads: The Messenger, Gymp and Conan.

They don't have any particular goals, they just hit stuff and yell at things.

There's always time to flex, though.

These three lads started life as necromunda models that I found at moab last year. They were missing a few parts, so I had to add an arm to Gymp from my temple guard arm collection and a flagellant hand from Conan that I had left over from a unit of flagellants. Overall, I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.

Not much to these ones, just some regular old gravestones. No names, no stories, just markers for some poor scavvers that reached too far. I tried to make one of them into a neon sign, but history will decide how well I did.

Thanks! Honestly, the only reason I started (and have since stuck to) this project is because of Bertrand. I think I'll be properly done when my hands fall off, but until then there's plenty of stuff on the ol' grey mound to paint up...perhaps some more animals are in order?

The Messenger, Gymp and Conan look great, well done saving the old models! The temple guard arm with the scales looks particularly mutie! I really like the graves too, it's cool having that sort of scatter terrain that tells a story without needing much explanation.

Honestly, the graves are more representative of my effectiveness of decorating the battlefield with parts of my team of scavvers than storytelling. Cheers for the kind words!

And speaking of storytelling...

This is The Nightmare of New Silverton. Nobody's sure what it was before it mutated, just that it's been taking out merchants, bandits and scavvers alike since it was first spotted.

By manipulating its veins ever so slightly, The Nightmare can launch fire, bile and acid from its gun-like appendage. If there's one weak point on this...thing, it'd be those. Take 'em out and you might have an easier time of killing it.

Some say that the red patches on The Nightmare are cooling vents, some say they're open wounds. Nobody's gotten close enough to find out, though.

The gun in all its 'glory.' Some say it can see in infra-red as well as regular vision, to assist with targeting.

The mini, as you might have guessed, is one of the old GW tyranids. I want to say it was a hive tyrant, but I'm not sure. I got it for about 12 bucks from moab and two of the arms were missing, but a couple of blobs of good ol' green stuff sorted that out. Overall, it was a fun model to paint, but in hindsight it would have been more helpful if I left the gun arms off while I was painting. I was planning to have a bright shell at one point, but having a dark one just made sense after a while.

Dark glossy shell is a good choice - nicely done.

Cheers! I can't wait to unleash it on something...

Now, onto a thing that took me way more time than I thought and has severely compromised my chances of finishing my grey mountain before moab this year.

This thing took weeks to build and finish and consists of the following items:

1 x space marine rhino
1 x russian tank killer
2 x ork dreadnought bitz
1 x soldier from a Christmas cracker
1 x 4ground stove
2 x 4ground short trestle table and benches
5 x wooden blocks
1 x empire hammer
2 x ogre bitz
1 x pile of cardboard
1 x square of MDF
Several blobs of green stuff

And a partridge in a pear tree. The smaller benches can be removed to allow for more precise manuvering, or to make some emergency barricades. Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out but dang, it took a while.

Say hello to New Silverton's newest (and probably only) family-friendly diner: Gibz!

Established and still operated by its founder, Jean Gibson, Gibz takes the freshest gibs of meat and cooks them up into three unique meals: red gibz, blue gibz and purple gibz, which cost a bit more but have a unique texture that can't be found anywhere else, or so some say.

Despite the popularity of violent conflict resolution, Gibz is seen as something of a neutral ground, where everyone downs their weapons and tucks into some grub(s).

After all, there's nothing much more horrifying than Jean's disappointed glare.

I've pretty much run out of backstory on this thing, so enjoy some more pictures.

Cheers! Honestly, it's thanks to Constable Bertrand that this thing even got off the ground. I told him I wanted to make a diner with a tank and he happened to find the spehss mhren tank I needed. Also, I seem to have forgotten to upload a picture, so enjoy this:

Also missing from the above post was a rough inventory list, which reads as follows:

2 x 4ground short trestle tables and benches
2 x ork dreadnaught bitz
2 x ogor bitz
2 x pieces of plastic
1 x empire hammer
1 x GW rhino tank
1 x pile of cardboard (corrugated and flat)
1 x 4ground stove
1 x russian tank hunter
1 x army man from a Christmas cracker
1 x GW wing (it was from a sprue, but I can't remember what kind it was)
Enough green stuff and glue to sink a ship
Nearly all of my paddle pop sticks
1 x partridge in a pear tree

I think that's about it. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. The benches in the front are removable in case we need to move around them or construct some makeshift barricades.

Cheers! I think my bodgy green stuff covering two of its arm holes helps the mutated status, but if post apocalyptic movies and games have taught me anything, it's that brown makes everything better.

That and having a dog. Having a dog helps too.

Well, it's not a dog in the traditional sense, but a good ruined mech is a welcome sign for scavvers, bandits and just about anyone looking to block some bullets.

Some parts of the wreck were damaged or hidden from the sands for longer, causing unusual colouration and rust distribution.

Not much to say here, just don't look too hard at the decal.

This part might come in...handy.

The model is the warmachine Khador...I want to say it's the medium wreck, but I'm not sure. I know it's not the large one at least. Overall, it was a fun mini to paint, but it doesn't fit super well in the base...that or I just glued it in wrong, which is a distinct possibility.

Looks like there's a not-so wrecked machine trundling down the wastes.

It's so big, it can't even fit on my usual background!

It's got a tow-hook and enough storage space for all the lads, if you don't mind the slightly garish paint job.

The gun's said to be so big, it can carve a canyon...ero.

The dashboard's a bit fuzzy in this shot, but it came out really well.

I honestly don't know what I did to deserve such a good shot of the bottom, but there it is.

Now, there's only one question remaining: who's a bad enough dude to ride in this truck?

These guys, of course!

The model is the easy to build battlewagon. I picked it up from a game store not far from where I work. The other orks that came with the truck were a bigger scale, which I didn't realize until I put them together. I've bagged 'em up for moab this year, so maybe someone will enjoy them. If not, well that's their problem.

Hell, yeah! Long live the Goff Rockers! \m/ \m/

\m/ Indeed! Such characterful minis need a sweet ride!

Of course, the postapocalypse isn't a sweet ride for everyone, like Dennis here.

After battling depression, Dennis was finally starting to turn his life around. He got a job as one of the mascots for the local greengrocer, he had some savings and he'd even asked out the girl in the strawberry outfit.

Then, the bombs dropped.

After seeing his whole world fall to pieces, it was enough for anyone to go a little...bananas.

This is Scrapyard. Born a few generations after the bombs, he didn't have much in life, other than a unique ability to find good scrap. If nothing else, it gave him the caps he needed to eat another day with his mum.

Inspired by her own efforts for a peaceful life and a few comics he'd been able to find, Scrapyard managed to build a mostly-functioning powersuit that gave him a bit of staying power when the raiders came to call.

His mum, on the other hand, was not so lucky.

Joining up with The Artful Dodgers, Scrapyard put his skills (and his suit) to use, protecting the wastelanders who couldn't protect themselves.

The miniatures here are Gavin and Iron Kev from Hasslefree miniatures. My attempts on the faces are probably a bit meh, but they're good enough for me.

Here we have Molly, aka Princess. She's small, but she packs a punch!

Molly was found by the other dodgers during a scav run. She didn't talk much about where she'd been living, but her ability to crush robots with little more than a bin lid and a baseball bat was more than welcomed.

Molly doesn't care who you are. Mutant? Cyborg? Scavver? Doesn't matter, you'll meet her bat if you cross her.

The model is hasslefree's Katie. It was super fun to paint and I'm really happy with how the lid turned out.

Another one of my online friend's characters. This is Dustin 'Dusty' Travers, the little brother of Jack. She's a few pages back, if you wanted to see her.

Dusty and Jack used to live together with their dad, but when he disappeared, the pair set off on their own. Due to circumstances beyond their control, they were separated.

While Jack eventually saw the good in the world and the need to look after others, Dusty feel in with a gang and became addicted to Jet. He never forgave her for 'running off,' but Jack's intent on making up for the past if he likes it or not.

Nowadays, Dusty's trying to live clean. He's broken off all ties with his old gang (which involved breaking a kneecap or two) but the temptation of one last hit of jet is always hanging over his head...

The model is hasslefree miniatures' Peter. Here's Dusty alongside another one I painted not long after my return to the hobby. While I think there's a bit of improvement in my painting, the same probably can't be said for my photography!

Here we have my attempt at evening the arms race between Constable Bertrand and myself: Stargazer, the singing sniper.

You might think that singing would be a poor match for a job where not being spotted is a prerequisite, but she's also wearing yellow and blue, so perhaps she likes getting noticed?

Despite her bright clothing, Stargazer is a good shot with plenty of achievements to her name.

The miniature is Hasslefree's Wierd West Boudi. It's a bit on the thin side, but it was a fun job for painting.

Just a quick update today. I picked up some tree guards from Knights of Dice at moab this year. They were a bit fiddly to construct, but that might have been my inexperience with scenery in general.

Or should that be 'leaf' it?

i would go for the twig option, break them off at about 35mm (ish) & blacken the tops.
Gives you a bit more cover & re-enforces the Post Apocalypse vibe.

First of all, BOO for the pun.

Second, it's bushfire season right now, so I'll likely go twig hunting once the air's breathable and less on fire. It's not too bad right now, but it could change at any moment. Also I have to work.

Now, for new business. This is Jackie, a scavver with a penchant for inventing and punching raiders.

Born with one arm, Jackie managed to compensate with crude prosthetics until she learned enough to build her own from various bits and bobs she picked up.

With a bag stitched to her vest and a hand made of scrap, Jackie always finds a way to break through.

The model is ex manus studios' Jawbreaker, with a backpack from pig iron productions and a wheel from a russian tank hunter.

I might have lied a little.

This is one of the Fancy Lads, a pair of wanderers who started saving people for the caps, but they got hooked on the rush of being real heroes and now they fight to make the wastes just a little better.

The paint job on this one was inspired by a certain anime character. If you can guess who...good for you, I guess.

Inspired by the jesters of ancient earth (and a costume store that he happened to get flung into by a super mutant one time) this Fancy Lad loves to jump and flip all over the place.

I...may have overdone it on the diamonds.

So...many...diamonds.

As you've probably guessed, these are old GW metal harlequins. I picked them up at MOAB last year. Could they be better? Probably. Am I content with how they look? Heck yes.

Thanks! I probably could've done them a bit better, but my fine detail brush loves to go all wonky right when I need it most.

Now for my newest project: The Angels of the Apocalypse.

The Angels are a mostly-honourable group of mercenaries that will take a job if the caps are good and the kill count doesn't need to be too high. Ammo is expensive, after all.

Descending from the skies on scavved flight suits, no target is safe for long, unless they're very good at running.

The models are GW's metal swooping hawks. I bought them from moab last year, so there was a wing missing. I gave the one that would be missing a wing a backpack from pig iron productions instead. It is...horribly unbalanced.

Well you've met the mercs, but what about their leader?

The current leader of The Angels keeps his head largely due to keeping an eye on his subordinates and identifying whoever's most likely to kill him and keeping them placated.

Then again, the advanced radar in his pack probably helps as well.

The model is a metal Swooping Hawks archon. There are so many gems on this thing, so many...

Cheers! I've been trying to push myself to do a bit better lately. With work off for the foreseeable future, I've got plenty of time.

Also the backpacks were from Secret Weapon, not Pig Iron. My bad.

Now for today's miniatures, Lee and Min!

Plagued by raider attacks, Lee and Min's vault made the difficult decision to send the orphaned twins away 'for their own safety.' Yep, the place where the raiders came from was definitely safer than a vault.

Upon leaving their vault, Lee and Min learned that they had two options: scav or starve. Since starvation is generally unpleasant, they took to scavenging. With Lee's unusual powers and Min's ability to talk down any witch hunter types, they make a decent pile of caps for the scrap they manage to find.

The models are Bushido's Sukoshi and Noi and I'm not going to lie, I had issues with these ones. The arms were SO fiddly to put together, I nearly gave up. I initially thought I'd put too much primer on Lee's face, so I stripped him down and tried again, after having to reattach the arms. Nope, the face was still difficult, which is why his left eye is jankier than the right. Aside from those issues, I did manage to have quite a bit of fun with these ones, especially with Micro Art Studios' bases.

My newest project was pretty...in-tents.

No big backstory with this guy, it's just a tent that I made out of a jelly bean tin I bought years ago. The beans themselves are long gone, but it took a global pandemic for me to finally work on this thing.

I added some posters to represent wear and tear on the outside of the tent, as well as break up the wall of greenery.

Only fancy lads allowed in here.

Don't tell anyone, but the internal posts don't entirely touch the ground. You can't really see them once it's set up, so let 's just keep that little secret between us, eh?

It's a generic tin with paddle pop sticks, toothpicks and a little bit of green stuff. I was thinking of making it a cooling tower instead (which would have been significantly easier) but I knew I'd be disappointed with the results if I didn't take on this more challenging project. I reckon it came out pretty well.

In case anyone was wandering about the lid from the tin tent, here it is. Now, it's the door to Vault 286!

Vault 286's door hasn't fared as well as other vaults due to constant attempts by raiders to get in.

Unfortunately for the raiders inside, the only entertainment available in Vault 286 were poorly-dubbed martial arts holovids. While not entirely educational in nature, there was enough for the dwellers within to learn some amount of martial arts and send any invaders packing.

The door before you is little more than a tin lid, some brass wire, sequins, cardboard, plastic gubbins from a russian tank hunter, half a book from either the gw empire wizard kit or the flagellant kit, I'm not sure. The lock on the back is the cap from a juice carton. I might have overdone it on the rust, but overall I reckon it came out pretty well.

And speaking of piles of junk...

The walking fireworks platforms, or FW-X units, were originally designed as mobile and somewhat affordable entertainment units prior to the war.

However, the factories where the FW-X units were being made were taken over by The Government prior to the war, their armaments changed from fun, colourful explosions, to machine guns and other weapons of death.

Not many survived the war, given that their internal speakers still pumped out high-energy music whenever they were deployed, but a few 'fortunate' ones can still be found

However, 'fortunate' is definitely not what you'd call someone who gets in the way of its weaponry.

At some point, someone managed to put a hat on top of this unit. For whatever reason, it's still there to this day.

The mini is hasslefree's Grymn walker. The hat came from malifaux's hats and guns blister, which might not be available anymore. The bag is another pig iron backpack and the pile of junk it's resting on is possibly from GW's ogre ironguts kit, but I'm honstly not sure. I'm not super experienced with resin and there were a couple of hiccups along the way, but overall it's a fun little mini.

Now, armed with experimental photon blades and inspired by some old movies, the family seeks to do what they can to make the world a little better.

That is, if the twins don't have a planet-cracking tantrum first...

The minis here are hasslefree's mystic family. Lucky for me, I got two of the toddler, so I did one as a light side and one as a dark side, as per fiction's hard rule that one twin must always be evil. Luckily, I had some spare bases, so the drop bear got a new piece of land to call his own.

They're a bit rough around the edges (and the less said about the mother's hair, the better) and I probably could've done better on the bases, but overall I'm happy with how they turned out. There's a couple of angles I didn't manage to catch and for some reason the lights didn't want to play nice today, but again, I'm happy enough.

She does have some standards regarding who she'll work with or steal from, but they're pretty low. If it keeps her in hair dye and bullets, she'll at least hear you out.

The model is hasslefree's Foxtrot. I was planning on using the other head, but it fell out of my hands and straight up vanished on the floor. I had a few hiccups here and there on the path to painting this one, but overall it turned out okay.

The model is GW's eldar warlock with witch blade. Between you and me, I just wanted to paint something with a big heck-off sword. The fact I found it in a small shop near work was just icing on the cake. It's not super overloaded with details, but there's plenty of bits and bobs that kept me entertained without feeling overwhelmed. As an added bonus, the model has a nice heft to it.

Looks like something's shimmering on the horizon - aliens!

With humanity on the back foot after...well, all of this, this intrepid band have come to see how to take advantage of the situation.

The aliens come from Slave2Gaming. There were a few hiccups along the way, but nothing I couldn't handle. Overall, they were pretty fun to paint.

Cheers! I try, but credit goes to the sculptors as well. I just put pretty colours on 'em.

OOh Pete, those winged Eldar are amazing the colours and gems are spectacular! They look very equipped to the task.

Given how long I've been wanting to paint 'em, you'd better believe I went hard on the paint.

Speaking of going hard...

This is Rob the Ripper, the meanest, bloodiest merc in the wastes...by his own definition.

Some people call him Bobby the Barbarian...

...they don't do that (or anything else that requires breathing) for long after calling him that, though.

Rob, as you might have guessed, is a 40k Jackhal. A pretty fun model to paint, although the skull was a pain in the buns to paint, what with those chains and all. I painted him up as part of a 28 min speed-painting contest. Here's what he looked like before:

I didn't quite win, but I think I did a decent job, considering the time limit and having way more paints available to me than I usually have. It was a great chance to try out dark skin again. More practice is needed, obviously, but I think I'm getting better.

Cheers! The wastelands are a pretty dangerous place, so its inhabitants should be equally so!

Speaking of dangerous, it's a ruddy deathclaw!

At least it's going away...

Yeah, it's definitely going away...

OR IS IT?

As you might have guessed, it's a deathclaw. This one in particular comes from the Fallout Wasteland Warfare board game. I do have one other post-apocalyptic project to tackle before I handle the survivors and such, but for a quick basecoat, wash and a couple of drybrushes, it came out alright. I probably put more time into the base itself (which is quite nicely detailed) than the deathclaw itself. Overall, I reckon it came out pretty well.

Nice paint on there pete, gives them a little more depth, they seem to be a little 2dimemsional than ideal, but.. they have the fallout look exactly so all is forgiven.

Power armour looks perfect! They came out great.

Hey, it can't be a Fallout game without some super mutants now, can it?

They look better in person, but that's not saying much.

Oh no, are they coming back?

As above, the models are from Fallout: Wasteland Warfare. The super mutant with the hammer was a pain in the apiary (needed to use some extra support to make his hammer not bendy) but they turned out okay. The hounds turned out better than expected and the bushes do seem to help a bit, so that's nice.

The models here are from modiphius' Fallout Wasteland Warfare. Assembly was a tad tricky and the bases were murdered (by me) but if you don't look too close it's fine.

As for this game, well I've got one more project and it's done. The mechanics seem pretty nice and the tutorial missions introduce things gradually, which is nice. Maybe I'll play it one of these days...

The model, as per most of my more recent entries, is from Fallout Wasteland Warfare. This one was honestly pretty fun to paint. The fancy bases are especially fun when they're not covered in tiny bottlecaps.
