For my ongoing Stalingrad project:

Two LMG teams and another PzKpfw III and IV are next for them.
And the first Soviets:

Wow! Nice work! What make are these miniatures?
-
Ups..forgot to mention this, figures are Bolt Action plastics, tanks are Rubicon 1:56 plastics.
I'll be metal/ resin free for this project ;-)

-
Rugged, dirty look suits these. Very good. :)
-
The Russians look great,as do the German troops, and they are all plastics from Warlord Games, amazing work on those. :)
-
I am delighted with the quality of the painting.
Russian succeeded you especially!
-
Yes, these look absolutely lovely, especially the Russians!
-
I must not be tempted to do early war in 28mm... I do not have the money... I do not have the space... but... why... I must not be tempted... I must *@#~* be tempted... lol
Anyway as my supervisor would say jolly good stuff. The only thing is the Pz III look as a Flamm, at least my 50L60 gun seems thinner (looking at the Rubicon sprues).
-
Very nice work!
-
Just a quick update :)
I wasn't all too happy with my urban bases and have today been trying to enhance them..

No reason not to use pigments here as well. MIG's rubble dust rules!!

Lovely work, I think I prefer the original bases though.
-
I disagree. New bases are great. :-* Overall, very lovely work.
-
Very impressed with the weathering. 8-)
Stuart.

Nice work - they will be very rewarding on the table. I don't really have the space for the bigger scale, but everything I am seeing recently makes me want to have a go.

I had never earlier see so well executed figures of Russian soldiers. Great job!
-
Bloody excellent work!

So gritty - very nicely done! :-*
Have you any terrain for them to fight over yet?

Such bases suitable for displaying of urban combat, as well as for the region with a stony soil in the fall and spring - Crimea and the Caucasus. Period - from 1941 to 1943 (according to Russian uniform sample in 1937 - without shoulder straps).

Thank you for your comments gents!
@Furt
Not as yet sadly..

Wow, just amazing!
I can't believe the German's are Bolt Action plastics. I've seen that before and to be honest they are unrecognizable! Apart from the super-di-duper painting did you do any serious modelling alterations.
Brilliant
-
Yep, some are a little bit altered but mainly they are straight out of the box.
The only heavily converted Germans are those two:
(http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m146/CiaphasCain_album/Bolt%20Action%20Stalingrad/3A25B585-896D-4650-AAEA-D2D85CAC97C5_zpsfvqxmjum.jpg) (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/CiaphasCain_album/media/Bolt%20Action%20Stalingrad/3A25B585-896D-4650-AAEA-D2D85CAC97C5_zpsfvqxmjum.jpg.html)
The officer is essentially a WGF figure with Warlors arms and head. The peaked cap is WGF as well. The kneeling Landser is a Blitzkrieg/ Late War hybrid.
(http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m146/CiaphasCain_album/Bolt%20Action%20Stalingrad/86B6D0C3-6E58-4B6F-B7B0-9B461DB88F78_zps4qghotb8.jpg) (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/CiaphasCain_album/media/Bolt%20Action%20Stalingrad/86B6D0C3-6E58-4B6F-B7B0-9B461DB88F78_zps4qghotb8.jpg.html)
The one on the left had his hand swapped to make it look as he would pull the ring off his WGF 'geballte Ladung'. Small thing but looks realistic. The other dude is not altered at all.
But I admit to really enjoy getting the most out of my plastics 8)
Cheers

-
Well it goes without saying you did an amazing job
-
Brilliant! I love the chipping effect on the helmets and metal. Did you use dry brushing for most of your effects, or did you also use pigments?
-
Stunning looking figs and vehicles.
Thanks for sharing your pics, and info.
I will have to check some of those out. I could use some nice looking figures, and vehicles like that, for gaming.
I believe the German tanks is a Panzer IV, with a short-barreled 75mm, which is why the gun looks a bit bigger.
-
Thanks again!
@SB guy
I hardly ever use dry brushing on figures as it is rather messy. Vehicles is a different story ;-)

What a nice little box the Winter Soviets are! Some fantastic alterations to the fist instalment. I'm very pleased it is 'only' a modified version as they are therefore fully compatible with each other ;)
My first box will be for the Stalingrad force I'm building but I daresay I'll get a company deal with two trucks eventually and build them as proper winter soldiers with snow bases and all!

Mig Pigments all the way, Urban Rubble here.
Nice! I'm still learning to use pigments more effectively, what did you use with them? Did you use a pigment fixer, and at what stage of painting did you apply the pigments?
-
Pigment fixer. Otherwise you won't keep the '3D effect' for long as the pigments fall off.
This is the very last step I do, after basing and varnish.
No worries, it dries to a completely matt finish.
I've changed the coat colour a little and painted two more:
(http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m146/CiaphasCain_album/Bolt%20Action%20Stalingrad/D8E46F16-E041-49A1-A45E-088996F064AF_zpsmavtrkg8.jpg) (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/CiaphasCain_album/media/Bolt%20Action%20Stalingrad/D8E46F16-E041-49A1-A45E-088996F064AF_zpsmavtrkg8.jpg.html)
The officer has had a head swap with a Brit, I want to keep the one with the moustache for something special.. ;)

If you will allow - a small comment on the Russian uniform.
Russian overcoat during the Second World War - gray. Overcoat brown appeared in the 60s. Although sew during the war used tissue provided by the allies - and then could meet khaki overcoat and other shades.
You have an error in a cloak cavalryman. You have combined two of the garment. Burka - Caucasian fur cloak, which was used Caucasian Cossacks and hood - Caucasian wool cap / scarf.

Thanks for all the info mate!
It's not really easy to find reliable sources on the Soviet kit, I guess I'll have to invest and buy a proper book..
'Enemy At The Gates' and an old box of toy soldiers are admittedly not the best sources ;)

Brilliant paintwork. They look great in en masse. :D

Aww..thank you man, that's a really nice compliment!!
Thing with the Russians is that they are dead easy to paint since the uniform was so basic.
En masse they (almost) always look stunning. It's the khaki/ green combo I think. A bit like 40k Imperial Guard ;)

They look fantastic. I always had the impression that the plastic weapons were a bit flimsy. Yours however look good and solid.

Great stuff! :) Looking forward to seeing the panther done...

Indeed the earlier releases have had some pretty fragile weapons. Better now :-)
Panther is PIP!

This is exactly what I hope to achieve with my Stalingrad project!!!

SP, I have completed my first Soviet Squad using your techniques. I will post a photo once I get back from vacation. (My idea of a vacation is being able to paint while looking out over the lake!!).
I just ordered some Blitzkrieg Germans to fight them. What color do you like for German tunics, helmets and pants for the fighting in the Sep - Oct time frame in Stalingrad?
Thank you.

The Bolt Action Germans seem to be more 'poseable' than the BA Russians. I am quite pleased with how they are looking. I am going to 'borrow' SP's idea of multiple grenades and arm a few Germans for the Tractor Factory fight.
