Following on from Crooked Dice releasing their Paranormal Investigator models and me building and painting Ecto 7, I've been asked to build a couple of wee terrain pieces for a board for them.
Original building....

Looking great :-* :-* :-*
What's across the street?
Are you doing a whole board or just buildings?
-
Lovely, are you going to make the interiors playable as well, like your PA London board? :D

Cheers gents!

I've got an elevated railway station to build. Possibly along the full side. Most of it is just going to be girders and stuff, but theres going to be an arch/tunnel type thing at one side that'll have a wee taste of Grand Central Station styling. We're still trying to work out if the stairs up to the platform should be off to one side or in the middle.......

No, on this occasion, they're all going to be closed off mate! Sorry! I've got a couple of other wee bits still to build that'll hopefully make it up for you though!
-
You are a building machine! The firehouse looks amazing already. Please tell me you didn't just scratchbuild that lamp column?
That is bloody lovely. :D
Make me one Andy.. ;) lol
Seriously, if this was commercially available people would buy it.
-
Sewers with pink goop in?

Oh my god, this is fantastic. Autohersteller unbelievible Board made by you. for the Salute?
Update/Correction: Autohersteller=what an. Autocorrection on an iPad is very funny, sometimes.

Its moved on a wee bit. I'll try and get some pics up this afternoon.

Another classic in the making.

Ooooh, so beautiful! :-*
Another classic in the making.
Absolutely right.
-
Lovely! :-*
-
S'very good. ;D
Did you just scribe the pavement and cracks into thin MDF? A close up of that would be nice, along with the street furniture.
-
That. Is. Brilliant!
The level of detail is great. I'm not surprised you've put the wiring and lighting in :D
-
Looks great
Bridge to no where?
Hopefully not Colin. There's a removable bit to extend it to the board edge thats still to be built.
S'very good. ;D

Cheers Kev!
I've been working on another base board tonight. This one is for this project as opposed to the one I've been using from my wee 2000AD project, that I've been using to take photos on. Here's a pic of that halfway through being inscribed. Its on 6mm MDF. The pavements sidewalks for the buildings are on 3mm hardboard. The technique seems to work for both materials!

edit-Please excuse the can of inspiration juice in one of the pictures!

Wow the terrain looks lovely. Thanks for sharing the in process photos. I am looking forward to seeing it finished.

Fantastic work. :D

Stonking work matey ;D ;D ;D

Just found this impressive work and project. Andy at his best ... :-* :o

Looking good, mate.
Gonna have to try that idea at some time.

Nice one.
-
I learned something new, in order to paint like you, I should drink more. I approve of this excellent thread. Good work.
-
Remember children....drink responsibly! ;)
I'm just trying out a colour scheme for the concrete. Not the best picture I'm afraid! Also I've built a park entrance for the corner of the board. This piece just sits on top of one of the pavements so it doesn't need to be part of the board.

Nothing short of amazing!

You sir are a talent of no small proportions. Excellent stuff.
-
Looking good, mate.

You are certainly making me consider playing around with some plastic rods etc when I finally get to working on my Asylum as your example shows just what can be achieved.
:D
-
There's something strange,
in the neighbourhood.
There's something grand,
and it sure looks good.
-
Looks bloody great!
-
This is more epic than fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes. The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria! :D
I have tried the MDF carving and thought everything looked fine before I started painting the board… so what's your secret color recipe??? :)

The answer cheap ass house paints!;-) I bought some tester pots from b&q.

I don't know if anybody else does it this way, but if you break what ever your trying to do into the smallest constituent parts in yiur head and take it small bit at a time, eventually all the small parts make up your one whole item.
This is the finished HQ building for the board. I've yried to make it look more 'used' by putting rubbish on it....

Superb! :-* :-* :-*
-
Exquisite, mate.
The building looks spot on and the addition of all the 'crap' will really make it pop.
The trash cans look great.

I was looking at what you have done and can see your processes.
Brilliant work.
A lot like sculpting then, mate.
;)
-
Perfect!
-
Looks totally rubbish. I think you'll have to bin it.
Looks great, Andy. lol
-
Some absolutely fantastic looking stuff! :-*
Would love to have this on the table.
-
Looks really amazing! Thank you for the work in progress shots of the street inscribing - was curious, what tool you used to score the mdf and hardboard?
Having just done a shoddy job myself on something similar with a dremel, I'm impressed by the quality and consistency of the linework.
-
Cheers gents!
Zacharyw- I use these mate.
(http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a605/andymac2105/Mobile%20Uploads/20150126_072605_zpsiixzpsot.jpg~original) (http://s1286.photobucket.com/user/andymac2105/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20150126_072605_zpsiixzpsot.jpg.html)
it's also maybe worth drawing your concrete pattern out first. Then its just a case of scoring those lines with the sculpting tool, repeatedly. Once there's a slight groove you can open that up by using both hands on the scuplting tool(you don't need the steel rule anymore, the grooves will guide you) to add a little more weight.
-
Your progress on this is fantastic. Seriously amazing, sir!
-
Love it mate :-* :-* :-*
cheers
James
-
@Andym: Thanks for the clarification. I guess carefulness, patience, and diligence net better results than just going to town on MDF with a wild dremel!
Really great projects!
-
Fantastic work!

The station is taking me a good bit longer than expected! :'( The stairs up are quite complicated!

Christ Andy!! You are a one man construction machine! :o
That staircase is superb. I guess you could use the table to run gangster games on too..
-
I watched Ghostbusters on Saturday night funnily enough and you really have captured the fire station well. That staircase looks bloody brilliant.
-
Ace work on that staircase!
-
It's all right I suppose :D
-
Those stairs are the dogs, mate.
Totally nuts!

Outstanding stuff!

Very impressive Andy - you must enjoy cutting plasticard! 8)
-
Insanely cool :o
Will you provide the board with proper era cars as well?
-
Fanbloodytastic
-
100% Awesome! :-*
-
Fantastic builds. What's even more impressive is that when you look closely (the windows on the main doors of the HQ, the detailing under the bridge of the elevated train) it's clear that it must have taken even longer to build than we could possibly imagine - either that, or, you know, you have alien super-powers. I want to build an urban board, and I would love for it to have this level of detail, but I've already accepted that I'm going to have to cut corners. You haven't (or don't appear to have done so!), which adds a whole other level to this.
I can't wait to see it painted - in part, because I really want to know how you tackle the tricky bits so that I know what to do when I eventually build and paint my own board!
-
Astounding work as always! :o
I'm working on some buildings with stairs and I'm curious what you used. Are the stairs themselves custom built or they prebuilt styrene one pieces? I picked up Plastruct O scale and G scale and I am looking for something in between like what you have. What brand are they? Plastruct, Evergreen, something else? Are they 1:48? Sorry for so many questions. Your pics are just in time for me to continue on my own project.
-
I think the stairs are scratch built from plastic card. A least that is the impression I got from my brother.
-
Just lovely.
-

Wow! Even more impressive! I thought the stairs were the precast kind with the railings added on.
-
Thanks gentlemen! :D :D

Thanks Steve! In answer to your question mate....no, I don't like cutting plastic card, but couldnt think if any other way of doing it! ::)
Insanely cool :o

I'm supposed to be getting a couple of the CD transit vans to paint up. Ones going to be done in the colours of Walter Pecks team. (The guy that trys to shut down the Ghostbusters).
@Hawkeye- I'm going to cheat! ;)
The cafe window is going to be a photo, cut to size, glued in and covered in ckear plastic. I'm sure it was Pappa Midnight that did it on his Victorian shop builds and it looks crackin!
Astounding work as always! :o

I'm afraid they're all scratched mate! I found the plastic sheet from Antenocities soft and easy to cut/work with!
I wish I'd known about the pre made stairs now, it would've saved a LOT of hassle!!
Thanks again guys!
-
Andy, if working with plasticard isn't your preference then you deserve double the plaudits for seeing it through to such a tremendous finish.
-
This is so cool! You really are the master of gaming boards. I thinks this is the best one I've seen since your ruined temple board.

Holy crap! You're a machine then! I tried making just one single short flight of stairs in plasticard and gave up. It was the wonkiest thing I've ever built. I think I found the right size for my 40k and sci fi terrain now. I initially used Plastruct O (1:48 scale), and it was very accurately scaled for 28mm...but it "looked" small with my 40k stuff. I ordered a set of their 1:32 stairs and I think while technically too large to be in true scale, they are big enough that miniature bases slot between the steps so they can stand on the stairs and they aren't so big as to look like they were made for giants.
They might be good if you want to save time next project :)
-
Yeah, when we used to play 40k, many moons ago, it was 1:35 scale barrels and stuff we used as certain terrain pieces. Oil drums and jerry cans.
-
You are using a brownish looking kind of embossed plastic sheeting, what stuff is it?
-
Its this stuff Admiral....

Love those trees and the detailed weathering and finishing.

Is sweet.

Fantastic! :-*

Pretty damn good (all the other good words have been used)! :D
Can't quite make the inscription out on the plaque though. ;)

"He said there's a bear in his apartment..."
Nice park! Love your technique for painting concrete. Very realistic.
-
Can't quite make the inscription out on the plaque though. ;)
I can.
It says: 'Sod off, Ray, ya cheeky get'.
:D

;) lol lol

Really cool project, great ideas. I was planning on doing some cardboard boxes for some alley terrain, I never thought to try thin plasticard.
I love the park entrance as well, the angle is a nice touch.
-
Forgot to ask if you did consider giving the park area a slight elevation compared with the street level?
-
Very nice. Liking that path.
Is this removable to make transport easier, or to have a swappable module? If the latter, what's the alternate option for that corner?
-
Really great work!
-
This is one of the best things i've seen in a long while, :o truly inspirational!
Thanks for sharing

'Tis a work of great beauty fo' shizzle. :-*
Andy, you've been producing some fantastic stuff over the last couple of years, how do you get such high turn over with such consistantly high quality? Great stuff
-
Oh, man.
Who you gonna call? Andym!
-
Pretty damn good (all the other good words have been used)! :D
Can't quite make the inscription out on the plaque though. ;)
Should I have an inscription on there? What would it be? Crooked Park wouldn't quite fit the plaque! :?

The boxes are actually light card Doc! You might be able to maje them more used looking by wetting them a wee bit, then scrunching them slightly in the corners. I could see that giving a really nice beat up look!
Very nice. Liking that path.

The path, trees and walls are one piece and the pavement underneath a separate piece that sits on. Alternative options will be hot dog stands or a bus stop.

I've also started work on a sign for the front of it. My plan is to make one, make a green stuff mould and make a copy to give me an identical reverse side....

I just noticed the headlights lol lol lol

Fatastic! Now I know, why you do not come to the tactica. You have no time, because you make the board for the BLAM! Looking forward to make a game with you both.

Awesome stuff 8) :o 8) :o

Looking fantastic Andy!

Should I have an inscription on there? What would it be? Crooked Park wouldn't quite fit the plaque! :?
Probably not. ;) I'm just pulling your leg Andy. It's bloody brilliant as it is. :D
I love the work on the sign. It's going to be a hell of a table when you're finished.
-
Bloody gorgeous so far, mate.
:-* :-*
I love the paintwork effect that you have created on those windows and the putty work on the sign is brilliant.

Really looking forward to the next update.
:D

Stunning. No other word for it. Amazing attention to detail too - I love the faint tire marks on the ground outside the door (among lots of other things). As has been said - what a board this is going to be!

You're a bit good at this ;)
cheers

Cheers James! That means alot coming from a master! ! :)
FantastIc! Now I know, why you do not come to the tactica. You have no time, because you make the board for the BLAM! Looking forward to make a game with you both.
I'm afraid this one isn't for BLAM mate, unless Karl manages to bring it along. This ine should be at Salute though.
Thanks again gents! :D
How to build a sign...
Take a bit of plastic card for your base and using some scraps of plastic card and green stuff, make an original....
(http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a605/andymac2105/Mobile%20Uploads/20150213_185637_zpseywglpev.jpg~original) (http://s1286.photobucket.com/user/andymac2105/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20150213_185637_zpseywglpev.jpg.html)
Take a big blob of GS and make sure yiu keep it warm. A hair dryer may help. Coat the original in a light covering of washing up liquid (this acts as a release agent once its all cured). Press your warm GS blob over the original and allow it time to cure ....
(http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a605/andymac2105/Mobile%20Uploads/20150215_092043_zpspkp5qzzo.jpg~original) (http://s1286.photobucket.com/user/andymac2105/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20150215_092043_zpspkp5qzzo.jpg.html)
Once dry, gently peel away the mould. Make another blob of GS(keeping it warm again. This will make it take the details of the mould) better and press it into your mould. Allow it to cure again for 4 hours before removing...
(http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a605/andymac2105/Mobile%20Uploads/20150215_085523_zpsrcpqu4oo.jpg~original) (http://s1286.photobucket.com/user/andymac2105/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20150215_085523_zpsrcpqu4oo.jpg.html)
Then its just a case of gluing the two sides back to back, add a couple of wee bits of plastic tube and hey presto, one sign...
(http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a605/andymac2105/Mobile%20Uploads/20150215_091240_zps1q1odfvk.jpg~original) (http://s1286.photobucket.com/user/andymac2105/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20150215_091240_zps1q1odfvk.jpg.html)

I've also started a wee hot dog stand. I've still to detail the tops of the cans and under the hood. I'm still working out what goes under there. ...

Your welcome Hitman! ;)
I love the way two of the wheels are angled :-* :-* :-*
Bring it with you tonight, I would like to know how you done the lids for the hot boxes?
Cheers Colin. The lids are just thin plastic card with a hole made by a 5mm hole punch, then the rectangle cut out.
Brilliant, but I think you forgot the onions on the hotdogs! ;) :-* :-* :-*
Blasphemy ! the only thing you need on a hotdog is spicy mustard.

Guys, Guys, its ok! I've tried to cater for everyones tastes! Thats supposed to be chopped onions beside the knife on the chopping board and the two bottles beside the umbrella stand will be painted to be mustard and ketchup! There's even napkins held down by a weight if you make a mess with all that stuff! ;)
Again, thanks guys! :D

I was thinking of keeping this off of a base. I was figuring it would make it sit better on the pavements sidewalks. The only thing is, is it means I can't put rubbish and stuff around the bus stop! :?
-
Hot dawg!! Oh, I mean, bus stop. :D
Lovely little construction Andy.
I don't think you need rubbish around it. The distress on the structure (flaking paint/weather staining etc.) should be enough.
You don't want to overdo these things. Less is more and all that... ;)
-
Plastic Scratchbuilt Perfection!
-
I am in awe, this is absolutely stunning.
I should bookmark this for inspiration, but scared I will always be fretting cos of being unable to match the quality of this.
Look forward to seeing this at SALUTE.

Wow, you are taking this to another different level :-*

It is amazing and once again an epic build :-*
The biggest question is still unanswered: Did you get a Thinking Cap?
-
Bloody brilliant, mate.

As per usual, but......
The biggest question is still unanswered: Did you get a Thinking Cap?
.....Your secret is out!
Thinking Cap, eh...?
You, sir, have been rumbled!
:D
-
Soo cool.
Wish I was going to salute to get a game on this beaut. :'(
Your attention to detail is staggering and it really pays off.
Thanks for the inspiration. :)
-
I wish I did get the thinking cap! ;)
I use glossy magazine cover to give me rivets on my bridge. Basically you press a ball point pen into the reverse side.

I've tried to be funny with a wee detail for the station. I'm trying to use Grand Central Station for a bit of inspiration for the back wall....

-
Stunning. How'd you make the lettering? Surely you didn't cut out each one in plasticard?
-
Excellent detailing Andy. Love that.
-
Nice tip with the ballpoint. Erm.. ;)
The terminal looks stunning. :D
-
Uh... Andy... I think you have XII twice?
-
:o
Oh dear. :o
I've just spotted this thread and the gold it contains inside. Andy it's a CRACKING build!!! :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Nice junction box and traffic light on the railway. 8)
I know your delema with uncertainty over fixing terrain to the base or leaving them free. I constantly question myself with that. More often than not I end up fixing it down to make it sturdier and fit better in situ rather than having a stack of bases on top of each other. Any tips from your process?
Cheers
Matt.
-
Uh... Andy... I think you have XII twice?
Thanks Fram! With your help we've caught that early enough that I could smooth that out!! Cheers mate!! Obviously wine and sculpting don't mix!! ;)
Stunning. How'd you make the lettering? Surely you didn't cut out each one in plasticard?
Oh god no!! Slaters do plastic card lettering. This is the 3mm high stuff.
Constable- I tend to go with what looks better mate. Usually I do like sticking stuff down and adding grass or litter or something. The thing is that I've been asked to make that piece of sidewalk a bit versatile, so it can be changed about.
-
Nice Andy!
For a moment I thought that you were doing the townhall clock from Back to the Future! :D
-
Lovely Andy. 8) 8)
I feel that I should make some remark about your 'nice bunch of grapes'.... :D
-
Lovely stuff :-* :-* :-*
Where are the greek pillars from?
-
Nice work, mate.
8) :-* 8)
Love the 'not so grand' green stuff.
;) :D
-
Lovely stuff :-* :-* :-*
Where are the greek pillars from?
They're bits of plastic pipe wrapped with corrugated paper you gave me when I made my Nelsons Column. I think its the same stuff you used for your pillars for your underwater temple.
I've got two CD vans to paint for this. Ones going to be an ambulance and the other an EPA van....

Great work! Stunning as always.
Does the presence of that beret-wearing resistance fighter imply that there is a painting hidden in one of the sausages? ;)

Cheers guys! :) I'm afraid there's no real trick to it. There is a few tips I can give though. 1.Make sure you use reference materials as a guide. I found this pic of a New York taxi I used and copied that. ....
(http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a605/andymac2105/Mobile%20Uploads/vintageyellowNewYorktaxicabseendrivingQaP5UAxcJe-l_zps5qcptjpn.jpg~original) (http://s1286.photobucket.com/user/andymac2105/media/Mobile%20Uploads/vintageyellowNewYorktaxicabseendrivingQaP5UAxcJe-l_zps5qcptjpn.jpg.html)
....2. I've put a couple of dark glazes along the bottom half of the windows. 3.Put a pure white dot to the top right of the screen. I do the same when I paint gems/lights. 4. I think framing it all in black helps too.
Thanks very much for the nice comments gents!! :D
-
Wow, amazing paintjob on that van, especially the windows! :o
I'm afraid there's no real trick to it. There is a few tips I can give though.
You've omitted the most vital step, I think: 0. Be AndyM.
;)

+1, they are outstanding (as usual, Andy)! Do you draw it with pencil and then paint it?
-
I dub thee the 'Richard Estes of miniature painting'. Excellent job! :-*
-
Doc- I didn't know who he was. I had to look him up! All I can say is WOW!! :o :o :o :o :o Thats a TRUE artist there!! Anybody else I should look out for?
Thanks guys!

This is the last wee bit to be built for this. I'm nearly done with it all. This is supposed to be a New York newsstand. ..

ive also raised the board up to make it more meaty. I used 45mm wide pine batons and screwed them through the mdf base and added a hardboard bottom to the whole thing....

Superb Andy.

Absolutely gorgeous. Best terrain project I have seen in ages.
I have to agree.
Everything is just spot on.
:-* :-* :-*
-
Absolutely brilliant Andy. Love it. Still think you could quite easily drop the sign on the fire station, swap the cars for some 30's models and cover the board in gangsters.
Excellent.
-
I adore this too, Andy - absolutely inspirational!
I also like the special cameo by NZ in the maps above - does the wall map placement mean the train tracks on the board represent an express route from R'yleh to Downtown?
;)
-
Brilliant, just brilliant!
That news stand is tremendous.
-
:-* :-* :-* :-* That station :-* :-* :-* :-* lovely work all over!
Any plans to build another tile next to it? Not that you need to, just wondering how crazy you are. :D
Cheers
Matt

Looking good :-* :-* :-*
Whats the extra bit of pavement for?
Oh, I made a couple of extra bits so the table can be changed around. These will replace some of the terrain pieces that have a base glued on.
Looking good :-* :-* :-*
Whats the extra bit of pavement for?
Thanks! Thats such a high honour! :)

Na, this one ain't for me mate. It's just another short play table for Crooked Dice. It doesn't even match up height-wise to the ruined London board I made for them...

Thanks again for all the support guys!! :D

Just stunning work, that news stand is the dog's danglies and all that!
-
You should seriously cast this stuff up prior to painting mate there would be a huge demand.
Bloody hell! You know what I'm having on my hotdog? Awesome sauce!!!! :D

Brilliant Andy, love the newsstand 8) 8) 8)

I don't think the bits would cast mate. Too many gaps! You'd need to build them with a mind to casting later.
I've finished the main HQ building now. I've left the sign removable so that it doesn't always need to be a paranormal investigators.

I've also built a quick wee road works thingy and I've been asked if I could make a few range rulers for the proton packs. This is my idea using wire to make 'beams'. It should look the part once painted....

Excellent work on the news stand (build and painting). You're really taking your manifesto to building better terrain to heart. I am aiming to lift my game in this respect!

Beautiful - the Andym Standard 8) 8) 8)

Absolutely gorgeous as usual (the proton charges will look very cool, I can already tell), but I had to laugh out loud at some of the newspaper headlines in the stand. Very clever, and highly amusing!
-
The cold drinks machine on the newsstand is just brilliant Andy. Superb. :D
I love the range ruler idea too, I might have to unashamedly nick that, if you don't mind?
I look forward to seeing a shot of the table with all the terrain on it, it really is something special. The only one thing wrong with it being that it isn't mine.. :(
-
Cracking Job :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

You are a effing genius, mate.
Seconded!

Just left to do is an ambulance and I'm also trying to make an explosion for the top of the HQ. I'm blatantly stealing borrowing Overlords flames idea from his excellent Build Something Contest win. Still WIP. I'm going to add bits of building roof in there somehow...

Superb!
You really have cracked the effect on the windies.

You're just too good. I'm going to give up and play boardgames :'( lol

Stunning work, as ever, Andy. :-* 8)
Looking forward to seeing it on the Crooked Dice tables at Salute, but sad that you won't be able to make it down this year. I'm sure there will be lots of pics taken for you to see it in action though.

Running out of things to say. ??? ??? ???
WOW :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

This is so great I cannot find the words :o :o :-* :-*

Andy, your cars are the most realistic models I have ever seen. I think you are close to perfection in the moment. Looking forward to your next model. Any idea what it is???
-
Stunning. You could honestly display these in an art gallery (remember: modern art = I could do that + yeah, but you didn't).
But forget that idea, because then we wouldn't see your stuff here.
-
:o :o :o
As others have written above, it seems near impossible to find fitting words to describe the awsomeness of this board!

Cracking work (as usual) mate
Another show stopper.

I'm not, because I know this is a commission, and at the weekend Andy is so tired from building and sculpting fantastic terrain pieces for his customers he plays his own games on a table cloth draped over some books, with shoeboxes for buildings. ;)

That train station would make a great board for games of "Warriors". Lots of train stations in that flick.

Thanks very much for the great support gentlemen! :D
I've tried to paint the ghost explosion. I'm not convinced by the results, but with time short it'll have to do.... :?

Is that whats not working? I can't figure it out what I don't like about it! :?
How would you fix it?
That's the proton rays finished now as well. I'm not getting the light tonight, but I'll try and get some comprehensive shots of the board later.

It's a great idea, but I noticed two aspects which "irk" me a bit.
First, the spirits/spectres/ethereal wotsits appear a bit too "solid". You might try lightening up their blue areas with some stippling, to make them appear more "cloudy" or "vapoury" (bit of a Baldrick-y, linguistically-challenged moment here, but I hope you catch my drift). The other option might have been to make some casts of those in clear resin, then tint it using various turquoise and blues.
Second, I think the explosion itself could have benefitted by using "deepened" rather than "darkened" colour tones on the top areas. That is to say, it appears to me you used a dark grey or black for the tops? Various blue hues of increasingly deeper shades (e.g. start with a light turquoise, then add increasing amounts of ultramarine and Prussian blue, maybe some midnight blue tones as a finish. My impression is that the dark areas swallow too much light and leave it dull rather than earily-glowing.
Apart from that, magnificent work all round, and those proton ray markers are genius. I'll probably shamelessly steal... erm, adapt that idea for my Daleks.
-
Now I REALLY hare you!
>:D >:D
Bloody gorgeous board.
You should be really proud of ALL of the various parts that make the wonderful whole.
:-* :-*

Greats stuff 8)
Would it be possible to put a finer wire in with the rest to break up the size a bit?

DON'T CROSS THE BEAMS!!! :D
-
I guess it looks 'okay'.
:'(
It has it all... clever, well executed, fun factor. Genius!
-
The reactor explosion looks good as is, but the thick proton beams look a bit curvier and need thin streamers of jagged blue lightening around them if you're going for the classic style.
Still hate you though! :P

Thanks for the feedback Chris!
I think it's something I need to look into. Casting that is. That probably would've been the perfect way to do it. I'm not sure the stippling would have made too much of a difference. I think we just expect ghosts to be see-through!
I think the thing with the explosuon itself may be more to do with the clump I used! It doesn't look like smoke. It's not dynamic enough and isn't the shape I think you'd get! :?

That queue is getting bigger!! :o
Yeah, I think for anybody else trying this, smaller filaments would make it more realistic! It's going to be a demo table though so it might be a tad too fragile mate?
Thanks guys for all your help and input on this, but that's me now finished this wee project.
Here's a bunch of final pics trying to show all the various bits and bobs....

A work of art! :o
-
It is a triumph* Andy! 8)
*said as someone who's never watched more than a few clips of Ghostbusters and therefore has no idea of the significance of the beams and explosions :D
-
It's so, so beautiful!
The proton beams and explosion look most effective from a distance on the board - particularly the 'splosion, where the height of the model favours the underlit effect. Great bold colours - something in my head is whispering that they should be pink like in the movie, or for the lightning, blue neon (it was de rigeur in the 80s!) But I wouldn't dare say that out loud.
Instead I'll just repeat what I said upthread: utterly inspirational!
-
Wow, just stunned by this project. Beautifully realised Sir, and i love how you've engineered every aspect, especially the beams - what a great touch!
I'd love to see a 'night-time' game with led stret lamps, ghosts and other lighting (leds placed at the gun end of the beams too?!!!!)
Saw a really cool ghost effect on the LAF forum linking to a blog.

VERY impressed!!! :-*
Some threads show great things that inspire me to try harder. Now and again there is a thread like this that makes me think about giving up!! ;)

I don't know what's more astounding, this table or the fact that Steve's never seen Ghostbusters!
Actually, its the table, its brilliant.

Stunning! :-*

Fantastic. I'd like to say thanks to you as I'll be running games on it all day Saturday. The only thing missing are troughs around the edge to collect all the drool that will be flowing. A masterpeice. :-*
-
Awe inspiring! I mean, everything, but the kicker is the mirror environment effect on the vehicles' windscreens... How did you do it? Did you paint the city streets reflection???
-
All packed and ready for the weekend. It's a thing of beauty!
-
Absolutely magnificent!
-
:o :o :o :o
No words to describe the awesomeness of it all o_o
-
Looked even better in real life AND I got to play a game on it ;D ;D ;D
-
Lucky you Zizi! :'( :'( :'(
I don't suppose you got any pics?
-
Sorry Andy, it was bedlam all day (in a good way), plus the light in the hall ain't great.
I didn't get any, but Commander Vyper had some very nice shots. I will try and collect them together.

I saw it at Salute and it was indeed a thing of beauty :)

Dear Sir/Madam
I am writing to complain about the distinct lack of pornography visible at your news stand. Other common publications appear to be well represented, but there is not even a hint of smut or even a plain paper package for a 28mm purveyors discretion. When the scale model of Judgement day strikes and the dead rise from their graves, I would feel more assured that my man dollies had a readily available supply of girly magazines at their local periodical dispensory. I feel this mars the otherwise splendid work you have achieved.
Yours sincerely
Vexed from Toorak
P.S. A thing of beauty is a you forever.

No bother! I remember how busy you were the years previous!
Thanks very much guys for all the nice comments! :)

How did your games go Les? Did the range finders work?

These were taken as bystander:

And these while I was actually playing a game :
I deceided to go with very agressive demons and boy, did it pay off (ofcourse, all the sixes I rolled most probably helped ;D)

The 2 counters underneath the demon dog are actually 2 ghostbusters that weren't gonna make it.

Neither would these 2. The last one met his maker through a telekinetic launched fire hydrant which was really cool :D

No more pesky humans. The Streets are free for the demon folk to roam.

Demoing on the board was insanely busy all day. I think everyone enjoyed the games. I don't think a minute went by when someone wasn't taking pictures... there must be/will be thousands on the internet. I didn't get a chance to take many pictures as I was flat out, the few I did I will upload tomorrow for you
@AndyM I used the range finders a couple of times. Great idea, well executed. The only issue is that terrain and models get in the way. One person playing the game insisted they were put on when he shot the Destroyer lol
Again, thanks muchly for producing a superb board; combined with Karl and Graeme's great rules and scenario it made for a fun day demoing

Not at all! Just copy and paste (repeatedly) “ ~original “ into all your Photobucket links, right behind the “.jpg “at the end! It really is quite quick mate!

Not of you've deleted your account in a hissy fit lol

Thank you for the reminder about repopulating Photobucket images. I finally got it to work today. Just spent an hour and a half reviving photos for my Star Wars thread.
