Title: Boer War Project
Post by: Suetonius Paullinus on December 02, 2014, 08:45:43 PM
The Second Anglo Boer War is one of my eternally unfinished side projects. Mainly because there are so few miniatures for it available..
So a while ago I decided to create my own figures for it by converting existing plastics from various ranges (Warlord/Perry/etc) and a little bit of Green Stuff.
Here are my first testers I did a few months ago. I've changed the formula for the khaki (mixture of various Vallejo colours).
Quite pleased with the result I'm currently painting another couple.

Very nice...Check out Old Glory Miniatures...they have a full line on the subject. The figures are either "love them or hate them"...I love them, but they don't mix well with other lines do to their unique sculpts... Well maybe Dixon would mesh well enough...

I know very little about the boer wars but I have to confess it is one of those periods I keep meaning to look into in more depth. But I think your painting has pushed me towards painting some brits.(Not till the new year as I haven't bought any yet).
If its any help I've a tutorial ongoing on how to build a traction engine and 8"howitzer.
Its been brought up in the topic The Boer war Armoured traction engine/land train.I've given in and will add how to build one for nothing ,onto the end of the topic. It might inspire you as your painting has inspired me to start another project(the difference is mine won't cost you anything lol)

Lovely work.

It is a sadly under represented period; my 2nd Anglo-Boer War stuff is the old Foundry range but, alas, there aren't many poses.

Redoubt also do a small range: http://www.redoubtenterprises.com/shop/?page=shop/browse&category_id=293d742e12f610bb074f6ed0a00d2bf0

Thank you for your kind words chaps!
I was aware of the Old Glory and Foundry figures but not the Redoubt ones..
Anyways, I wish someone would make plastics for this period!
Alan and Michael have got a Boer War uniform on display in their gaming room..maybe there is hope after all :-)

Very interested in the howitzer, can you post a link to the tutorial?

Cheers
