Title: My Lion Rampant (and Saga) stuff
Post by: zenbadger on December 07, 2014, 01:56:15 PM
I have put the WotR aside for a while to paint some Vikings that I bought a few years ago. I painted a few of them quite badly before getting fed up with the project so this week they all went into the Dettol for a strip and re-paint. All Gripping Beast plastic Viking Hirdmen on Warbases 20mm bases and tray.

Made a grub hut to go with them this week, using a Warbases MDF kit.

Looking good. In particular I like your hut. What did you use to cover the walls and what is the roofing material?

I noticed these on the warbases website and I might get a couple myself.

Thanks. The walls are covered in bog standard ready-mixed filler, the sort of stuff you cover wall cracks with. I got a big tub of the stuff from the local DIY store (B&Q) for a few pounds, the cheaper the better for this purpose. The thatch is an old face flannel PVA glued on and then soaked in gesso. More details are on the blog (see my sig for the URL).

Half a unit of Bondi this week (or three quarters if playing Saga).

The plastic figures are really nice.
Will have to check out the Gripping Beast stuff.
Of course the painting is great.
Excellent painting on the shields.
Love them.

Brilliant stuff. Painting that GBP myself now. I quite like them, even though the slingers don't really work for me.

Thanks Dr the Viking and everyone else for your kind comments.

I like the idea of the Dark Age Warriors box but I am with you on the slingers, some archers wouldn't have gone amiss.

Fabulous work. Where did you find the designs for the shields? Did you base them off the transfers?

No, years ago I was a Viking reenactor and  I made a big list of shield designs from loads of secondary sources. Shields fell apart with alarming regularity so I was painting up a new one every six months or so. I started off with ravens and ouroboros designs and ended up with simple quarters.
