Title: Jugula gladiators
Post by: YIU on December 17, 2014, 01:30:44 AM
It's been a long time since I posted on this forum but I am back as I came back to the hobby.

I tested many gladiators games but none pleased me. I recently bought Jugula (game sold by Tomahawk Studios and Gripping Beast) and found the game fluid and really exciting. It's a fast, nervous and strategic game with an excellent campaign mode.

It was time to get my miniatures back and paint them.  Here they are.

We are four players but I am the only one to provide miniatures and each lanista can have up to 4 different gladiators in the arena (6 in his ludus in a total of 12 different gladiators......which means I have to paint 48 gladiators...a speed painting).

Here is the first batch as some others will join the arena soon.

Miniatures are mainly from Foundry (converted for some of them) and some from Crusader. You could even see an old Citadel, an Heroclix some Wargames Factory (Veles, Laquaerius et Sagitarius) and a "small" Brigade Games miniature.

Thanks to all of you.

The big guy is Theokoles from the Spartacus series and he is a very tall albinos.

I'll post the last ones as soon as they are painted.

Speed painting in this case was : paint 4 to 6 miniatures at the same time and no more than one hour on a single one....speedy for me but not for other painters I know  :?

These look amazing. Was Theokoles a Heroclix Ironclad in a previous life?

Excellent job!  Reminds me that I really need to get back to my own gladiator project.  Nice use of the WGF Numidians for some conversions on those lighter types of gladiators.  What miniature is your Maximus Decimus Meridius?  Never seen that one before, only the Crusader and Reaper figures.

Thanks. Maximus is a converted Foundry roman legionary (like Oenomaus...the same miniature).
