Title: Painted Goblins. Now some Foundry Orcs.
Post by: blacksmith on December 20, 2014, 10:26:42 PM
Testing skin tones I painted these three Goblins from the old Harlequin range sold by Black Tree. I think these Goblins were sculpted by Kevin Adams.
I liked how they turned up.

Big pic and some comments here: http://javieratwar.blogspot.com.es/2014/12/testing-goblin-skin-tone.html (http://javieratwar.blogspot.com.es/2014/12/testing-goblin-skin-tone.html)

I think WWII uniform colours are good as skin tones for Orcs and Goblins.
Cheers,

They're lovely! Like the skin color of the one on the right. What color did you use for him?

Great stuff and great figures. Black Tree have some nice figures in their fantasy range.

For the one on the right I used Vallejo Japanese uniform with a wash of Army Painter Quickshade soft tone.

VERY COOL! I'm sure you will get at least one vote for each of the skin shades...I'm rather partial to the one on the far left, Comrade. I've seen a couple of Guys doing their Goblins with varying skin shades AND they look just fine...that's something to consider if you can't pick just one. Beyond the skin tones, you did an OUTSTANDING job on the brushwork. VERY WELL DONE!

Thank you DeafNala, the one on the left is my favourite as well.

Great Work! It's always nice to see the spawn of the goblin master painted. Thanks for sharing.

They all look great but the right one with spear just seems a better choice.Seeing a whole lot of them together will look great with the different skin tones.

Actually, I was thinking of paint them with different skin tones (some brownish or even reddish) or go for just one or maybe two basic colours. I think I will paint some more with different tones in the end.
Thank you guys for the kind comments. I have to say I really enjoy painting these beauties.

I'll go along with the others and say I like the spear guy best too, but a mix of different skin colours will look great in a unit (or army).

I only have 20 of them to form a unit in case I ever use them for WH 3rd edition, but mostly for skirmishes.

Great brush-work. I notice BTD have a sale on these guys at the moment: might have to grab a couple of packs after seeing your take on them.

The Lads of Varying Shades look TERRIFIC...I'm partial to the orange flesh tones also.  AND beyond the superficial,  your brushwork is OUTSTANDING! GREAT WORK!

Out of all the companies Kev has sculpted goblins for the BTD ones are my favorites.  And you have definitely done them justice

The new Goblins are UBERCOOL as only Goblins can be. Their preferred up-close-&-personal-from-a-distance tactic is in play. Your brushwork is as OUTSTANDING as always. The color choices are BEAUTIFUL...the varying kin tones in particular. VERY WELL DONE!

I love those Foundry orcs  :-* Some of the very best made in my opinion. I only wish that they were more readily available.

Very nice paintjobs as well.

The Foundry Folk do have an abundance of charm & character with noticeably better posture than G.W's Orcs. GREAT WORK on some OUTSTANDING miniatures!

I have 19 of these orcs and all of them have a different face expression. They are full of character and quite old school looking IMO. I love them.
Many thanks for the kind comments guys.
