So after selling off most of my painted Lord of the Rings miniatures I decide it was a big mistake and wished I hadn't. Thankfully I managed to find 80+ Uruk-Hai of Saruman stashed away (I don't remember having so many, I'd already sold a similar quantity of painted Uruk-Hai!). Saruman and his White Hand Uruks have always been my favourite.
As I also sold the rule books I intend to play games using Saga rules and the battle boards made by Frank.

Printed out and laminated ready to go. Just need to buy the Saga rules now lol

Perfect the bases are top too
I stupidly sold all mine off for £50 and spent well over £300 replacing it :-X
-
Cheers. I feel your pain. There are a few bits I'm trying to replace, searching on eBay for items not going for silly prices. One good thing that came out of it is that I'm far far happier with the painting of these than the paint job I did on the others, done 12 years ago.
-
Looks good!
-
Nice start. Can't wait to see more.
-
Beautiful Uruks! More, show us more!
-
Thanks guys. Hoping to get some more painted over the Christmas period. Stay tuned.
-
Looking forward to seeing more - a fantastic start
-
Really nice start! They look great!!
-
A little update:
I managed to paint 7 more Uruk-Hai warriors over the Christmas period. That's 2 points worth done.
I have 8 bowmen started, Lurtz and 8 pikemen on the painting table ready to do this weekend.

Cracking painting 8) 8)

-
The Orcs do look SPLENDID...GREAT brushwork, bases, & color choices. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Lovely paint job - not too dark, but definitely evil looking.
-
After rekindling my love for LOTR, I'm wanting to do a small orc band as well. Very inspiring!!
-
Great painting!
What colors are you using for the Uruk's skin?
Those reds look grand!
-
Very nice. Hope you have some of those berserker chaps too - with the skin colour you're using they'd be grand. 8) 8) 8)
-
Cheers folks.
@Amalric: the skin colour is achieved using a triad of GW's new paints. First Rhinox hide, then a layer of Doombull brown, a wash of Agarax Earthshade, layer of Doombull brown and final highlight of Tuskgor fur.
@Vanvlak I do indeed have some berserkers. I bought them second hand on eBay to replace ones I'd sold so they need their previous attempted paint jobs stripped first.
-
Cheers folks.

Ah, good - given the recipe above, they'll look splendid. Go on, put them at the top of the list of Orcs to do :D
-
Very nicely done :)
-
Again, superb :-*

The berserkers get their fairy power spray bath tomorrow night then they'll be the next thing to paint. They were my favourite uruks to paint before. I should have at least 8 archers done to show you all before then.
-
These are lovely - the contrast between the skin and the leather is great, you often see the skin too dark on these models and they end up looking a bit too brown.

Well the Berserkers have been put in to soak, ready to paint next week when I'm back home.
Tonight I finished off the Uruk-Hai Archers.

I only just noticed the white hand marks - nice work! :o 8) 8)
-
Very nice. Makes me want to do some LotR gaming again ;D
-
Thanks chaps. Hopefully I'll have some more stuff to show at the weekend.
-
Looking good. I could never do the white hand myself, always ended up looking like a flower. Yours look great though! :D
-
Good evening folks. Another week passes and 8 more Uruk-hai swell the ranks of Isengard. Unfortunately I only had these poses for the pike men so they look a little boring. Believe it or not there are 4 different "variations" here.
Lurtz and a banner bearer are nearly finished, hopefully tonight. Next week I start the berserkers who should by now be stripped of all paint.
-
Nice stuff - I like the shine on the armour, not out of place with Saruman's orcs. 8) 8) 8)
-
Cheers. I tried not to make them too dark and black as they are in the film, I don't think I could pull it off well enough.
I managed to finish Lurtz and the banner bearer before bed. I also took a photo of everything painted this past month.

The band looks great - and the hand on the banner is - well, it's Banksy standard at least 8) 8) 8)
-
They look terrific and I agree the banner is top notch!
-
Great looking warband of Uruk Hai :-*
-
Great work, the hand is espcially good. ;D
-
Some cracking new additions :D
-
Thanks all. Not managed to get any painting done this week yet but I hope to change that this weekend. Berserkers are definitely next.
-
Super nice stuff... cant wait for the berserkers!!!
-
Something a bit different from Uruk-Hai today (sorry guys awaiting the Berserkers).
Needing a break from painting Uruk-hai I decided to paint up the Lake Town house I built before Christmas as seen here:

I've also acquired a rather substantial amount of Lord of the Rings miniatures over the last month and I probably have more now than I did before. I even managed to buy back the painted Fellowship I had sold!
This thread will now be the home to all future goings on in my little corner of Middle-Earth.
-
Fantastic stuff, I always liked the uruk hai figures, best in the range
-
Nice colour - it really brings out the best in your building.
-
Nice model and again, nice colour choice.
Tony
-
Your Water Front WONDER is a BEAUTIFUL creation. The level of detailing & color choices are OUTSTANDING. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Cheers guys. Work has started on another Lake Town building tonight. I guess I should actually get some residents of Lake Town to defend it.
-
Great figures and I love the house 8) 8)
cheers
James
-
Love the house! There's a lot of depth in all that wood. I like the weathering you've done, really awesome.
And the minis are great too!
Jevenkah
-
Love the house :-*. those figures aint half bad either..
-
Very nice work on the Uruks and House!

I just have to join the ranks off applauding bystanders. Great work.
Cheers

-
Ohh, lovely alround! :-* :-* :-*......eh, if you can call Uruk Hai lovely! ::)
-
That house is just great :)
I love the way you painted Saruman's hand, it looks spiffy! Stylized and immediatly recognizable.
-
That building is :-*
-
That is a wonderful finish on that building, mate.
You have really done it justice.
8) 8)
-
Aah, that is a nice building. I always was a sucker for piers and bridges and similar stuff on wargames terrain. There just is something about gaming on and around that kind of stuff.
Great stuff!
-
I really love what you are doing here! :-*
-
Thanks for the encouraging words everyone. A new house is well under way, hoping to have something to show Sunday evening.
-
Wow love everything you have done!!! I too have sold of and bought back lotr stuff more times then I care to mention... first love was Uruk-Hai for me too... but now distracted by Harad.
Love your scenery the house looks store bought! Keep up the good work... no get cracking on those berzerkers!
-
As with all things wargaming wise, I get distracted by other projects or in this case I've had painter's block (is that a thing?). This week however I've got back to all things wargaming related and yesterday back on to the Lord of the Rings project.
To kick off, I've painted up one of my favourite Uruk-hai models, an Uruk-hai Captain.

And fresh off the painting table Lurtz and the long awaited berserkers! Sorry it's taken so long to get these done.

Finished four more berserkers today. Another four to go! Also on the painting table, 10 uruk-hai crossbowmen.
-
Well worth the wait 8) 8) 8)
-
Thanks, I'm glad you think so. I'm happy I got them finished. The other 4 are nearly done. That should be it for berserkers for now.
For tonight's offering I give you Uglúk, captain of the Uruk-hai scouts who captured Merry and Pippin and the first of the crossbow Uruks.

I've been away from this project for some time but have revisited it recently, taking a different direction to my Uruk-Hai.
Inspired by my local landscape and the hundreds of barrows dotting the South Dorset Ridgeway, my gaze has turned toward the Barrow Downs of Middle Earth and eventually to the Shire.
First up a small round barrow, inspired by one I visited at the weekend. Many more to follow, including a long barrow and a round barrow both with interiors.
Here's the real thing...

A perfect description. Lovely work ;D
-
Oooh - tufty :)
Looks very nice
-
Outstanding work! The figures and the barrow look spot on.
-
Beautiful! Being a bigTolkien fan, I really like your interpretation of the Barrow Downs.
-
Nice round barrow. I am looking forward to seeing a few more. Will your long barrow be based on a famous one or will it just be a generic long barrow?
-
Some really beautiful work! I'm in the middle of diving back into my own LOTR collection, so it's great to see others working on theirs. :D
-
Great work on the barrow and figures, starting to get back into lots again, just picked up a couple of boxes from my local gaming store today
-
It's been a long time since posting any Middle Earth related stuff but as always with the release of the extended edition of Battle of the Five Armies and watching all of the appendices I felt like painting some miniatures.
First up is a Gundabad captain. A Finecast model which was the first of this material I've painted. It wasn't as terrible to paint as I expected and I'm quite pleased with the result.
And second is Éomer on foot. When I first bought the mounted version over ten years ago, the prospect of painting the intricate armour filled me with dread. Having finally braving it, I'm very happy with the paint job. More Rohirrim to come hopefully.
-
Very nice. The Gundabad could easily stand in for an Uruk leader.

-
Both look lovely. Thanks for sharing.
-
Thanks chaps. The Gundabad captain coul indeed easily stand in as an Uruk captain and probably will until I buy more Gundabad orcs.
Finished this guy last night. Théoden, son of Thengel.

Nice collection and well painted. Thanks for sharing

Thanks all for the comments. Eowyn and Gamling on the painting table next.
-
Those are very nice :-* Looking forward to more.
-
Once again, I return to Middle Earth after not painting anything for it for months.
Wanting to expand my Isengard force but not wanting to paint more Uruk-hai just yet my attention turned to the Dunlendings. Here is the test piece for the colour scheme I will use.

So instead of building Lake Town for which I have no miniatures for, I thought it might be a good idea to build scenery for my Isengard and Dunlending force. Starting with a turf-roofed Dunlending long house.

Very nice indeed, loving the buildings.
-
Love that building, excellent work on the roof!
-
Brilliant buildings :-*
- can you explain how you built it, please?
-
Excellent. Might try and do one of those myself :)
-
Thanks everyone. This building was lots of fun to make. Others will be coming soonish.
Brilliant buildings :-*
- can you explain how you built it, please?
The long house was a very simple build. The main building was made using foam board in a typical basic house shape. Then it was clad in balsa slats with support beam details on top of this. The side buttresses follow the angle of the roof slope down to the ground. The roof then sits on top of this all, overhanging front and rear gable ends slightly. Hope that helps. I really should take photos at each step as I often get asked how I made stuff.
-
Thank-you
-
Scatterings of Evermind and everything. lol Brilliant! The turf effect is very... effective.

Lol I'm glad you spotted that. I bought the white flowers last year when I made some barrows (where they typically grow) and was painting Eomer, I thought some Simbelmynë would be a nice thematic touch. I've since been using them on all my fantasy bases and scenery.
-
This morning I finished some GW Dunlendings. I'll be using these in all sorts of fantasy games as well as Middle Earth SBG.

Really nice.

The Long House is a WONDERFULLY crafted piece; AND like the Dunlendings themselves, BEAUTIFULLY painted & based VERY WELL DONE!
-
Lovely figures, wish I had bought some back in the day.

Check the GW site for your country. The Dunlending Warriors are still available on the U.S. site, so they may be available in your country.

It's been a while since I added anything to this project. Nothing new to post as such today, but I have been rebasing my Uruk-hai so that they match all of my other fantasy stuff for when I use them as orcs in non-Lord of the Rings games.

Sauron called: "Base me an army, worthy of Mordor"
Loving your work Bukkiteer. More of that scenery would be a treat! :-*
-
Lovely adventure you're building!
-
The start of a new(old) army for me. Some goblins I painted yesterday. A quick (for me anyway) paint job, batch painted in classic colours with classic basing. These were some of the first miniatures I got for SBG, when I received the Fellowship box game for my birthday in 2001. Really happy with how they turned out and the speed in which they paint up. Very much looking forward to adding more and getting some of the other Moria related minis.

I like them a lot. Classic choice of colors is always a safe bet. ;)
