Title: Pine trees on the cheap!
Post by: mikedemana on December 27, 2014, 07:40:06 PM
I need lots and lots of trees for my French & Indian War games. Woodland Scenics ones look nice, but are not cheap. I've tried various experiments in the past. I decided to venture out to the local craft store while Christmas decorations were out in abundance to see if there was anything I could do. I came up with these, which cost about 50 cents each. Details are on my website, link here: http://leadlegionaries.blogspot.com/2014/12/cheap-trees-for-tabletop.html

Try a company out of Hong kong-"sfcdirect",on E-bay ,under train scenery, they ship fast and are cheap all scales. They have tons of terrain. Here is a example of 10 winter pine trees for $7.51. I have ordered many times .no problem. It will say from China next to any item description.

My wife threw away a 9-foot garland this year because the lights didn't work.  A lot of cutting with some tin snips and straightening and I ended up with several forests:

Just poked into posterboard with a drop of glue to hold them in place.

I also took shorter sections, turned them the other way around, and planted them in rows.  Hit them with a heat gun and the "leaves" wilted down.  Put a drop of yellow paint on top and I have corn fields.  No pics yet because the bases are not done.

Great suggestion on the garland. I looked at it, but scratched my head on how to cut it up and mount it. Looks like you came up with a handy way to solve that problem. Nice job! And definitely, post some pics of the cornfields. I still need to make some of those...
