I have a small project in mind involving D&D 1st Ed., my daughters, and a Norse/Viking/Fantasy setting.
I need some nice 28mm minis for it though.
- Goði (priest - I think I've seen a nice one from Artizan)
- Gyðja - priestess, preferably young (suggestions, please!)
- Shieldmaidens (at least Foundry has some)
- Dark Age civilians that can pass as viking villagers and workers (I think Foundry has a few of these, too)
Suggestions, as many alternatives as possible, would be MOST welcome! :)
I shall, of course, need other minis for the project, too, but for human warriors, GB has me covered, and I have quite a collection of fantasy stuff to throw in the mix.
EDIT:
The Foundry 'normal' shieldmaidens are all unarmoured, which is a shame for this purpose, and the armoured valkyrees come in packs with too many scantily clad, too fantasy models.
I really need some young women with dark age style leather/scale/chain armour, and preferably in a 'realistic' style (as opposed to fantasy), but I haven't been able to find any, yet, so if someone can point me towards some, it would be a great help!
EDIT 2:
The Gyðja could be represented by a shieldmaiden, actually, but the female 'magic-user' or 'seiðr-user'/'rune-seer'/'Vǫlva, Vala, Spákona' should probably be a more non-combattant style mini (like some of the suggested).

Chap in the middle perhaps?

Nice mini, pose a bit dramatic, but he could be a nice adversary, perhaps directing the draugr towards the village of our heroines ;)
Listed, thanks!

Artizan designs viking characters and Black Tree Design DA 1011 packs for example.

The Artizan one is the one I referred to, and the BTD pack is nice, too, thanks!

Fantasy, but I think they would work and they have several shield maidens.

The Red Box stuff will never scale up w the Gripping Beast. They are just too slight to look like even a tiny female.
-
The Red Box stuff look extremely nice, though. :)
It would of course be nice to have some comparison shots, but I am willing to accept some scale issues for this project, it is mainly an RPG-thing, and the minis are an 'add-on'.
In any case, I'll have a closer look at those!
Thanks for the inputs!

Look at the elves on their site as well, they don't look very diffrent from the humans and they have several good shield maidens.
Here are a couple of scale comparisons.

Courtey's has a properly, properly nice civilians pack. There's a dark ages version and a medieval version (the medieval one has figures cleaning & preparing heater shields added).
Really good figures; I'm seriously hoping they extend the range.

I recall reaper having a few decent female barbarians, if you're willing to put the manhours into going through their catalouge

If scale and price aren't too much of an issue (this is for your little princesses, after all) Bronze Age 32mm Viking women are gorgeous:

Here they are intermingled with some Foundry Viking ladies:

Enjoy!

Maybe asking here if any lafferty have spares of what you want or would care to split some?

Very cool, gang! :)
I have been going through the (extensive) list of Reaper female barbarians, but they are all a bit too 'fantasy barbarian' I think.
The Bronze Age minis look quite good, I may consider getting some of those (I don't think they look out of scale with the Foundry stuff, at all).
The Curtey's packs look very nice, so they are noted down for future use, too.
In the end, the girls will decide which minis they want for their character, but I'm collecting all the links for them to look at. I hope to commence RPG'ing with them quite soon, and then we'll pick minis according to their character-choices :)

I have been searching for that 'Lenore' model as I remembered it and, although it is a bit fantasy/medieval in style, wanted to include it in the possible 'rune-priest/magic-user' choices - and I was certain that it was from Dark Sword, but not so, I see now, thanks!
Holvand and Henn of Gar are both VERY cool, and some of the others could come in handy, too!

Glad I could help :)
