Hi all,
I had a few weeks off over Crimbo so thought I'd try and finish the Undertakers. That went down the toilet as I realised I needed more styrene brick sheets; waiting for them to be delivered would have wasted time. I remembered I purchased a Skytrex kit a few years ago as I need a station entrance for the London set up so I set to work. It's almost finished (Christmas excesses slowed things down a bit ;D ) with a just a few small details to add.
There's only two pics for now as the light was bad this evening and most of the pictures are crap. I'll get some more up at the weekend.
I painted the kit in my usual brick colour. The signs are taken from an actual picture dated around 1890 and were gratefully written up for me by Svennn.
For those interested, the Metropolitan District Railway is now the District Line of the London Underground. It was dug just below street level (not as deep as more modern lines) and was first opened in 1868. Originally the line only ran through the centre of London, but by 1884 it had expanded into the east and west suburbs. I haven't given this station a name, that way I can use it for different locations and scenarios (got a few of those up my sleeve).
The centrefold shot. As you can see, there's details that need finishing off (just noticed the chimney pots need painting too, oops). The advertisement is from a collection I have been building up:

This is the side booking office window. The top sign is by Svennn and the two white signs are my efforts (the prices are fairly accurate if you were to travel from parts of the western suburbs). The lamp is from Langley Models.

As I said, I'll get some much better quality pics up at the weekend :)

Cheeky indeed. I'd hate to see the size of one your cheeky G&Ts.
-
Wow! What a beaut!
-
Bloody gorgeous as usual, mate.
:-* :-*
Note: Funnily enough, I saw the word 'Cheeky' and immediately thought of you.
:D
-
That is a thing of beauty
-
Not bad ;)
-
That is beautiful. :-*
-
Sweet looking building.
Love it. :-*
-
Very nice , the drainpipes and signage are top shelf as usual for a TC build.
:-* :-*
Cheers
Matt

Lovely piece of terrain and beautiful finished. The signs are excellent.
-
Yip, another brilliant Cheeky built indeed! :o
How does the Skytrex kit scale up with your own builds?
-
Thats it!!!.... This has just confirmed my thinking!...There's been a severe lack of Thunderchicken threads for the last while!!
Great work TC!! :-* :-* :-* :-*

The man is right.
Enough of this teaching malarkey.
Let the little blighters get on with it while you sit at your desk at the front of the class building more goodness for us to drool over.
:D

Yes man, that is IT! :o I need such too!!!
-
A real treat, as always :-* :-*

Thats brilliant a joy to view
-
Very nice as per usual. It's really easy to get the typography wrong, but you've got it spot on. 8)
-
I think they like it TC. ;)
Its the little details which elevate it above the norm and into the superb category. Love it. :-*
-
Superb, especially the signage :-*
-
Thats a cracking build :-* :-* :-*
-
Gorgeous!
-
Well he is doing his own signs from now on :D lol :D lol
I always think the signage looks too bland when I draw it up from what I must admit are very definitive briefs, if you ignore the fact you have to reply requesting dimensions umpteen times, but then they always look just right on the builds.
Now he has shown he can do them himself he can do the endless searches for specific Victorian fonts too ;D
-
Gentlemen, thank you very much. :) I'll have better pics up tomorrow.

Nooooo! You wouldn't leave me in the lawless wilderness of sign making would you? (bottom lip wobbles). Your signs make my builds. I know I'm a pain in the arse sometimes but it's worth it ;D

Good question. As it's O scale it's a little bit larger, but as stations had larger than normal doors and windows I'll get away with it with this kit ;). I'll take a pic of a comparison for you tomorrow.

You'll be surprised how good my class is getting at building stuff!
Thanks again gents. :)

I am worried that Thunderchicken's class looks like this:

Only with bits of balsa and jugs of PVA glue instead of oars.

Looks crap ;D

Phil: I think that you should stress that you mean his Victorian buildings.
He may get the wrong idea and then you could be in trouble...!
;)

Love the posters mate, nice touch ;)

Alas, much to Mason's disappointment, my layout will not be on show at Salute...... neither will the buildings lol

Not a bad idea! Leave it with me.

Just found this little gem. What a great build - well up to your normal high standards.

A Victorian Thomas Cook's travel agency must be on the cards?
Martian Canal Boat Tours anyone?

Thanks chaps. :)
