It's amazing, it's spectacular... it's not started yet.
-
looks like you made more progress than me... lol
-
Yeah, my first post has more words lol
-
Chop chop, time's a ticking ;)
cheers
James

I know! The pressure!

Okay, os I've decided on a topic now. As I'm in a real sculpting mode wi the hobby at the moment I'm going to try a wingless cave dragon. Not a huge beast though, only have a month. It will be in a cave of some kind. Maybe even emerging from a cave. I may even try putting some carcasses etc around the cave entrance. Yep decided. Now off to make the armature.
Oh yeah and because it's a Dragon there will be charred fiery bits around it. If I have the time I'll even try to make it a snowy region.
-
The work on the dragon has begun. Just working on the bulking out at the moment. I only get about half an hour a day to work on this thing but have a long weekend coming up. Hooray for Waitangi Day!
Hopefully this part should only take a couple of weeks. :? Possible more, however if this takes a lot longer than expected I'll have to tone down the rest of it and maybe make it on a base of snowy yet charred ground with a casualty or two beneath it. I'm trying to model it as if it is emerging from a cave.
Oh cool the iPad has put the image upside down. ;D well you get the picture (no pun intended)
-
More bulking out.
Dodgy photos taken at night sorry.
woo hoo, photo is the right way around this time
-
looks great and considering you are down under the picture looks alright to me

lol

I've done some work on the skin now for two of the legs. Kind of leathery.
-
That's coming on nicely 8)
cheers
James
-
ooooh! :o very snazzy Beefcake. 8)
-
Nice sculpting!
-
Nice work mate. I like the reptilian feel. Not all dragon sculpts have that quality.
-
Thanks all,
I've done the back. I still need to join the shoulder muscles properly to the torso(?) and the hind leg needs a little more sculpting at the join. Now just lower legs, upper legs on the other two, tail neck and head. And then the rest of the project. :?
Loads of time
Aargh! Stupid photo.
-
Looks impressive - I really want to see him done and settled in wherever he'll be settled. 8) 8) 8)
-
Your very own dragon! :o
Any plans for a hoard of coins and gems?
-
A hoard and gems is a good idea. I may use that but the cave is meant to really just be the entrance.
I'm thinking of getting rid of this head. I may make a variety of other heads and see which I like best" I want to go for something quite feral looking.
Anyway, here are the photos. Neck half complete and shoulder muscles put in. I've also tidied up the joints between the arm and the torso so that looks better now.
Still a fair amount to do. Underside, legs tail and head.
This time I'm uploading two photos taken both ways with the iPad, hopefully one will be the right orientation. There will be a mad beefcake otherwise lol. (If it works I'll delete the upside down one)
-
Very good :)
cheers
James

Good progress; the dragon starts looking good. Will you keep his skin smooth or are you planning to add scales?
-
I think I'll keep it smooth. Time restraints and all. Scales would add on a lot of time especially if I were to do it properly.
-
You should post all of your photos up-side-down. Make it a point of difference. :D
Tony
-
lol it would certainly make the final piece a bit of a surprise when it is shown the right way up.
-
More progress on the dragon. I still need to do more work on the head. Not happy with th teeth, not very fang like. I may pull the out and use brown stuff to sculpt them as it gives harder edges. One of the horns has come loose from the head so I'll need to stick that back on. Pretty much only the legs and some detailing on the head to go and this guys done. Then it's up to the work on the lair.
-
Starting to come together nicely.
-
He's starting to look good; I like the horns.
-
Thanks :)
I've been looking for blue foam for a long time but can't seem to source any here in NZ. So instead I resorted to an easier located (bark garden), cheaper alternative that will be quicker and probably have better results. Bark nuggets. I'll spray the to look rocky but just need to make sure I get them looking good. I'll use some DAS modelling clay to fill any gaps and stick the together with some skewers. Below is just a quick test.
-
I've done some more work on the face of this guy. Starting to look quite scary now which is a good thing.mpretty much only the legs to go now and then tidying up. The extra week is going to be helpful to complete the rest of the project.
I've pinned together some of the bark nuggets with bamboo skewers and PVA glue. It's looking pretty good now.
-
Yep. Looking good.

Started some work on the base of it now.
Here's the bottom of it.
Clear plastic with some bark.

Coming along nicely! :)

Here is the cave mostly finished. Paint needs to be added, snow and some icicles too. I think I may skip the burnt tree depending on how quickly the paint goes on. It will be my first time using snow effects too so I hope it goes alright. I may practice on something else first.
Pics with a grenadier barbarian for scale.
I've got skewers for stability and to hold up the roof. They seem to have worked fairly well.

I'm thinking of keeping the back open for whenever I get the urge to make a cave system out of bark. This will be a great entrance for it. My son keeps on asking me to make a game out of it so it could be fun for some sort of campaign system dungeon crawl. Find the cave, enter the cave, get the treasure, escape the cave blah blah blah.
-
I'm liking the scale.
-
looking great Beef :) :)
-
Shaping up to be an impressive diorama.
-
Probably my last update before either submission or failure ;)
Undercoated the cave in Grey.
Before undercoating I got my hacksaw out and chopped off the overhanging pieces from the rear of the cave.

Oh, shiny! :)
-
Still wet lol
-
I like the cave; looking forward to seeing it finished.
-
Finished the painting earlier today and put a few finishing touches on it. Looks good, however my 6 year old said all the other entrants are better lol Can argue with the honesty of children. :D

lol lol lol
Just make sure he doesn't vote then ;)
Im glad your nearing the end of your build beefcake. The bark looks fantastic. :-* I actually prefer it to the 'Cork" and "fish tank terrain" honestly, the strata is a very nice effect.
Cheers
Matt

Just the feet and teeth to go on the dragon, then painting and its done.
-
Claws, teeth and painting left to go. Sculpting should be done tomorrow and then I'll give it a lick of paint. Should be an easy paint job.
-
Entry submitted just now. I had sculpted a little snowman to go in it too but forgot to attach it. ;D oh well.
-
Well you can always resubmit :P
Looking forward to seeing the dragon with colour.
