It's for a future fantasy project, but I'd like to prepare months (and years lol) in advance. Who offers the best 28-32mm hoplite shields, the familiar round and Boeotian type - I'll be needing a mix of about 30 aspides?
I plan on at least a 40 strong unit with gorgoneion variants on each hoplon, probably hand-drawn designs on transfer paper and then painted over.

I like the ones by Essex Miniatures. They do the ones with or without "curtains".

1st Corps also do Hoplite shields with or without the cloth and internal detail.

I'd say those too

How is the internal detail, especially connection points? The hoplite shields have the same diameter as the plastic ones from Marauder Miniatures - will be using the one with the embossed gorgoneion. The Persian ones, with the boss filed off, would make a decent Boeotian.
I may have purchased some rectangular scuta from 1st Corps, back in 2010, but can't be sure, as it's not showing up in the system and can't update my delivery address. :-[

You can see pics of Scarab Miniatures Greek shields here http://scarabminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=23_68&sort=20a&page=2
Pic shows front and back details approx 16mm diameter
Hope that helps

I like Gorgon Miniatures & Aventine Miniatures for hoplite shields. They're 28 mm.

Thanks, though these might be too detailed: I may have to do some filing so that the heroic sized Marauder Dark Elves' arms would fit - too much work for almost 40 figures.

The rectangular scuta were more than likely purchased from warlord Games, not 1st Corps, but can't be sure, because my account was deleted due to inactivity, though the forum one's still active, despite not having posted in years :?. :-[ I still plan to use these for converted Mantic Dwarven crossbowmen to look like Late Roman/Byzantines.

Twenty-eight millimeter diameter or suitable for 28mm figures?
Aventine's has space for an arm, avoiding the need for filing, but Gorgon's has no pics of the shield inside.
What's the opinion about Hasslefree's hoplite shields? Can't tell if these are sufficiently curved enough...

I have both Aventine Miniatures and Gorgon Miniature hoplite shields and they're exactly the same.

.
Send or post a pic of the Dark Elf you want to use, I have a large Dark Elf army myself - I probably have the old Marauder shields somewhere as well, so I can try one out and compare. (I assume its the 1990s GW Marauder Dark Elves you are referring to)

I use the Wargames Factory plastic ones. You can usually find them for less than 4 bucks for 20+ shields. They are very slightly curved, leaning more towards the flat style.
