OK a bit of a delay, as I had to work out a  base size  that will work with my whole pulp city layout and my game table.
Finally decided 18'x18' is th way to go. My entry will be a street section of three buildings with the center building having the top blown off and on fire the two flanking buildings having damage and secondary fires on their roofs. If I have time I hope to add firefighters and fleeing occupants.
I've been using wooden craft boxes as the base for most of my buildings but as they are hard to find now only one building will be made with them . I have found some cardboard ones about the same size which i'll use for the center building and the third will be out of foamcore

Great use of cardboard boxes.

I hope the brickwork works out for you.

The cardboard boxes take the inscribing well but you have to hold a piece of wood behind the piece you're working on it does'nt take as much time as most people think

(http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll29/madmalg/2015%20build%20contest/003_zps5e8d6b54.jpg) (http://s284.photobucket.com/user/madmalg/media/2015%20build%20contest/003_zps5e8d6b54.jpg.html)
just measure on the corners

(http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll29/madmalg/2015%20build%20contest/004_zpsf5a071ea.jpg) (http://s284.photobucket.com/user/madmalg/media/2015%20build%20contest/004_zpsf5a071ea.jpg.html)
and scribe a line between the marks with a piece of metal that gives the size of groove you want

(http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll29/madmalg/2015%20build%20contest/008_zpsf537c734.jpg) (http://s284.photobucket.com/user/madmalg/media/2015%20build%20contest/008_zpsf537c734.jpg.html)
then I use a screwdriver and steel rule to mark the end of the bricks.

(http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll29/madmalg/2015%20build%20contest/010_zpsc7e7341f.jpg) (http://s284.photobucket.com/user/madmalg/media/2015%20build%20contest/010_zpsc7e7341f.jpg.html)

I did'nt show the piece of wood being held behind because I was holding the camera
this is my progress so far
(http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll29/madmalg/2015%20build%20contest/011_zps5090d6d1.jpg) (http://s284.photobucket.com/user/madmalg/media/2015%20build%20contest/011_zps5090d6d1.jpg.html)
the first two stories of the center building won't have exposed brick.I messed up on the windows of the second story so that's a redo. any imperfections on the upper stories should be covered up by window frames and sills.

It seems that I need to check on those wooden craft boxes more closely seeing your work, I think I can source them with moderate price tags.

It seems that I need to check on those wooden craft boxes more closely seeing your work, I think I can source them with moderate price tags.
they are quite usefull, and cut down build times ,if you don't mind having the size of your building predetermined for you.
as I mentioned they are hard to find in the doller stores now ,but I believe you can order them from china in 20- 50 size lots
on ali baba . I have a bit of a stock pile which is enough for my needs at present so I have'nt looked into it.Quality of the wood and varience in dimensions occur so I prefer to see what Im buying.

OK a bit more progress to report replaced the story with th missaligned window and worked out the configuration of the upper stories of the Schumway building. The upper 2 1/2 stories won't be there in the finished entry I'm doing a intact and a damaged version of the upper parts of all three buildings so I'll have more gaming flexability.

the box lid and smaller box make a good improvised jig.
I also made the first piece of debris

More done on the stationary store used stir sticks, popsicle sticks, and some doweling to make the cornice.

also cut and fitted the window frames for the upper stories
(http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll29/madmalg/005_zpsregryxbz.jpg) (http://s284.photobucket.com/user/madmalg/media/005_zpsregryxbz.jpg.html)

and I started work on the lodge building
(http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll29/madmalg/008_zps7posprhq.jpg) (http://s284.photobucket.com/user/madmalg/media/008_zps7posprhq.jpg.html)

I have'nt decided on the final design for the front of the lodge yet and I'm not happy with the grey stonework
on the cardboard might go with balsa brickwork instead

Also did my first experiment with fire using a cone shaped piece of clear plastic and batttery tealight

used coffee stirrers, bits of balsa, craft dowels and popsicle sticks to give it a late victorian/early 20th century looking facade
the pillars on the 2nd story are grooved wooden pins used to glue and hold pieces of wood together . I cut off the ends and used two per pillar and glued them with the straightest looking side out.
over all progress so far

OK last post before the deadline and i'm admitting defeat in spite of having three days off with nothing scheduled ,real life managed to get in the way as did a couple of construction dead-ends.I hope to finish and post this project some time in the near future.
This is as far as I got.

Oh thats a pitty Odd Duck. It was coming together nicely. I really like how you have used common materials and used them in an ingenious way. (Ie the corrugated dowls as corinthian pillars out the front!!)

I hope you can finish it soon in the workbench. Just keep plugging away at it while it's fresh.

Cheers
Matt

Shame about the time... that part of the street looks great already, hopefully we'll see the end result soon enough. Oh, and rest of your town as well :)
