Title: Agis' Imperial Assault minis - Jabba's Realm
Post by: Agis on February 01, 2015, 09:09:15 AM
FFG is putting their SW license to good use, after the RPG and X-Wing they launched Imperial Assault. Being the SW nut that I am, I ordered the basic game box. I like it so far.
Storm Trooper and Luke!

The minis are medium quality plastic, similar to Mantics Mars Attack. The also share the same amount of mold lines.
I would love to see a dedicated high quality miniature release, resin cast. I really think that the softy plastic with all the mold lines is giving the original sculpt ne credit at all...
The sculpts have a 1990s feel, chunky and more in style to Games Workshop minis. I like them!

Here is the always wanted comparison shot:

Expect some more painted samples within the next months.

It may have just re-awakened my Star Wars interest.

They look great  8) 8) 8)

I know next to nothing about this, how many figures are going to be released and will they be available separately or just in box sets with the games?

I like the quality FFG generally puts into their products. But sixty quid for a boardgame is asking just a little too much for me.

James, it looks like they are releasing separate figures. One character figure in a box, and it will cost around £8. That's for one plastic figure (well, and some rules-y stuff for the game).  £15 for an AT-ST or a pack of three mook-type figures.

Smashing painting there, Agis. Looking forward to seeing some more.

Thanks for the comparison shot.  I had a chance to play a game (not star wars) where my buddy fielded his Imperial Assault repaints.
http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/2015/01/star-wars-imperial-assault-minis-with.html
Despite some soft detail on the weapons, they're nice figs and I prefer their proportions to the more spindly options available.  The WoTC figs weren't bad (and should mix just fine with SW:IA), but the Knight models were anorexic and terribly overpriced.

True, very crips quality, but who would fit in such a tiny armour?

No One!

Taking a look at the picture below I think the ImpAss (not the best abbreviation perhaps  lol) Stormtroopers might be the most "realistic", though of course I use that term loosely.

lovely paintwork as usual. shame the way they are doing things. do they not realise what market there is for decent 28(32)mm Star Wars models if sold in useful packs not the odd figure with some rules for nearly GW prices  >:(

I wish someone decent would get the license - not that FFG are bad, I love X-Wing (despite the cost of the models) but if they released say stormies and rebs, 10 to a box, £25-30, well, I'd be skint (well, more skint if that is possible to be!  lol )

Thanks,

That doesn't differ much from my bases, although I like to start off with german camo brown before putting on an earth tone. And iraqui sand is definitly my color of choice for desert bases.
Anywho, a friend who picked up painting after a decade of inactivity will be pleased as he really loved that brown tone for the bases edge. 8)

I always thought is was the other way around. Like, the bar taps in the cantina are basically droid skulls, not that the assassin has a soda fountain head.

Cantina scene was done before Empire. When building the bounty hunters, they grabbed the part from the cantina scene and stuck it on as his head.

Oh, I know that. I'm just saying, if that connection is ruining your ability to take the character seriously, there's an in-universe explanation that's somewhat plausible rather than silly.

The single pose of the Troopers annoyed me a bit, since the material is easy to work with I started a conversion.
I cut off the helmet and calves and repositioned the head and lower legs a bit, result is shown on the left mini below.
In the end it was - IMO - not really worth it. Looks still too similar.
I also painted the lower part of the mini more white on this mini, since some people seemed to be irritated by a slightly dirty Storm Trooper - shock, gasp!

Below both Troopers are shown together with the Vader miniature.

First player miniature, the mighty and equally fierce Wookie warrior Gaarkhan... Very easy to paint mini, basically just a wash and a bit dry brushing.

They look good Agis!

Rather than cutting them up, have you thought about dunking them in boiling water and re-posing them that way? Might be quicker, and also help to achive slightly more exagerrated poses.

The FFG plastic is firmer then the bendy pre-paints or Reaper Bones material. You can actually scrape off mold lines on these, unlike the Bones or Mantic stuff.

I'm sorry to hear - I thought they'd be like the Mantic Deadzone stuff which goes rather floppy and soft when heated, making it possible to twist thinner torsos and bend limbs quite sharply. Ah well. :?

The base effect is indeed 3d and not painted.
It is the new GW Technicla paint " Martian Ironearth ".
You just apply it and let it dry over night.
DONE!

It is then dried in a martian red tone, there fore I gave it a sandy drybrush.

Incredible painting from Agis as per usual. I like the idea of chopping the trooper to make a new pose - I may try that with mine, but to be honest I don't mind the monopose figures.

BTW folks, I played my 1st Imperial Assault games last weekend.

It is a good game. A little bit too detailed and card oriented for my taste (if you played X-Wing you know what I mean) but definitely fun.
Keeping the table tidy is a challenge. But the game feels right, alternate activation, opposed dice rolls, variable outcomes etc. We will play the campaign!

Next weekend I try it with my grown up nephews!

A little bit too detailed and card oriented for my taste

I agree in general, and this part especially. However, as a game that's intended to have some campaign play, and also aims to provide re-playability (skirmish mode notwithstanding), I don't see too many ways around that.

I do think that some of the "read-out-loud" information for mission briefings is a bit inadequate for a number of missions though, and the lack of info can make it rather tough for the Rebs in missions with tight timing (especially if you're not playing with all four heroes). It's an easy fix though, and (as the Imperial player) I normally use some judgement about whether I feel the Rebs have enough info to play the mission or if I reveal a bit more. :)

Glad you're enjoying it either way!

Title: Re: Star Wars Imperial Assault - female Bot
Post by: Michka on September 10, 2015, 01:37:08 PM
I played the game once and wasn't completely sold on it. As you say, too many cards and counters and fiddly bits. I think if I had a group that wanted to play more often I'd get to like the system. On the other hand I do plan to use the scenarios from the campaign guide for RPG games. Waste not, want not.
Title: Re: Star Wars Imperial Assault - female Bot
Post by: TheWorker on September 10, 2015, 03:49:47 PM
It's worth persevering with. The system is very good once you get going with it - and the figures are addictive to paint...!
Title: Re: Star Wars Imperial Assault - female Bot
Post by: Agis on September 10, 2015, 04:10:38 PM
I agree, the system is nice. You can feel the RPG "pedigree".

The bookkeeping is not my thing. Many of the cards could have been simply solved by a good old fashioned skill or item list.
Carl Woodrow describes it quite well on his excellent Blog:
"Storage has become more of a challenge now I have three of Fantasy Flight’s Star Wars games. Between X-Wing, Armada and Imperial Assault I’ve found myself awash with a serious number of tokens, cards and other components to manage. The large volume of gaming aids is something of a Fantasy Flight signature and does make their games great, however it also presents its own headache. "

Post by: TheWorker on September 10, 2015, 04:21:58 PM
I think partly that depends on how transportable you want things to be. I own X-Wing and Imperial Assault and storage is mostly solved by using the boxes - although I freely admit that X-Wing is also in a ring binder (Pilot and Upgrade cards) and all my ships are out on display.

I'm not looking forwards to packing them for when I eventually move house though...

Post by: Major_Gilbear on September 10, 2015, 05:13:29 PM
Well, I both love and hate the amount of stuff in FFG's offerings - sorting out cards and tokens is just a different type of book keeping to tables, player sheets and pencils as far as my own experience goes.

More Imperial Assault minis got painted!

Two Royal Guard (never understood why the Emperor has a Royal Guard...) and an E-Web Engineer.

The flimsy plastic power cable on the model was not to my liking. Fortunately there is a solution - Zinge Industries Poseable Wire Wrapped Cable!
A great product that keeps up to it’s name.

They look great your whites are perfect and the reds are crisp too. I don't understand why the scout trooper has the heavy weapon? It doesn't seem very scout like to me.

never understood why the Emperor has a Royal Guard...

The big thing is that Palpatine keeps his force powers rather well hidden, most of those that know he isn't a crippled old man (following his battle with the Jedi coming to arrest him) are those he's trained or trusts implicitly (or is about to slaughter) so body guards are a useful thing, plus he's not against having the guards to give him an edge up if Vader or someone decides to depose him...

All true!  ;)
BUT - I was referring to Palpatine being the Emperor and still having a royal Guard.
Would Emperors Guard be more fitting? Or Palpatine is the King of the Empire?

Terrific paintjobs. Those Storm Troopers are extremely well done, how long does it take to do them? I always wanted to do a Storm Trooper list...but the idea of having to paint white armor with black details sounds so terrible!

I used Sorastro's Video recipe to paint them.
I need around 30 - 60 Min per mini.

Patsuriku asked the "If they're the Emperor's, why are they only 'Royal'?" question back on page 2, as well.

I imagine the real world reasoning went something like, "The adjective from 'Emperor' is 'Imperial', but we've already used 'Imperial' for stormtroopers, so we'll have to call them something else - how about 'Royal'?  Yeah, that'll do."

Not being much of a Star Wars (http://Star Wars) fan, I don't know what the in-Universe explanation is, but perhaps it's an old unit, pre-dating the Empire, that kept its distinguished old name?  British regiments with "King's" in their names were not renamed when a Queen came to the throne.

Anyhow, the main thing about the Royal Guard is … nice painting of reds!

I use the Sorastro method for painting Stormtroopers too. It' s a real time saver, and his videos are actually entertaining to watch as well as educational. However, Sorastro never got his Stormtroopers to look as good as yours do. That Engineer is painstakingly well detailed. Your Star Wars miniatures are just fantastic!

One more thing, weren't the Royal Guard hold overs from those guards in blue that we saw escorting Chancellor Palpetine on Naboo at the end of Phantom Menace?
Title: Re: Star Wars Imperial Assault - Officer and E-Web

OK, now I Googled it:
"The Emperor's Royal Guard, sometimes referred to as the Imperial Royal Guard or Imperial Guard, was an elite unit of the Galactic Empire's armed forces (specifically the Stormtrooper Corps) tasked with the protection of the Emperor, Palpatine. Palpatine was almost never seen without a detachment of Royal Guards at his side, so much that they usually accompanied him to his bed chambers and his office within the Death Star. The exact number of Royal Guardsmen serving the Emperor was unknown, with speculations ranging from less than fifty to tens of thousands, although their numbers were estimated to be at least four hundred at any one point. Like the stormtroopers of the Stormtrooper Corps, the Royal Guards formed a military unit independent of the Imperial Military and answered directly to the Emperor.

The Royal Guard was based out of the Imperial Royal Guard Academy on Yinchorr, a barren planet rendered lifeless by genocidal airstrikes by the Empire. Candidates for tutelage under the Academy, picked from various units in the Imperial Military, underwent rigorous training programs designed to build a sense of extreme loyalty to the Emperor, with students often being forced to kill each other in live combat. Guardsmen were trained in various forms of martial arts, including Echani. Guardsmen were commonly equipped with vibroswords and force pikes, in addition to heavy blaster pistols for ranged combat.

The Royal Guard was the successor of the Red Guard of the Galactic Republic, also taking influence from the Sun Guard, Palpatine's personal Sith military unit led by his alter ego, Darth Sidious. Following the first death of the Emperor during the Battle of Endor, the unit, without a leader, was scattered for several years. However, during the Emperor's subsequent reincarnations in the form of cloned bodies, the unit was reconvened on Byss, fighting for the reborn Palpatine and being nearly destroyed by the destruction of Byss by the Galaxy Gun and Palpatine's flagship, the Eclipse II. When a member of the unit, Carnor Jax, was implicated by Palpatine's personal physician with ensuring the failure of his clone bodies in a bid to become Emperor, he led a slaughter of the unit's survivors on Yinchorr, leaving only Kir Kanos. Jax made a bid for the empty throne previously held by Palpatine before being assassinated by Kanos, whose undying loyalty to the Emperor and his ideals led him on a crusade to murder anyone involved with his death. ( I really start to like this game!)

1st is an elite (red) Chiss Officer:
Taking an idea from Carl Woodrow's fantastic blog, I decided to paint my Elite (red) Officer as a Chiss. The head is from a privat sculpt (Galactic Bastard mini), all the rest is just paint. Admiral Thrawn was standing model. ;)

My take on the elite red Storm Trooper. Again a simple but IMO very effective head swap. The heads are from Anvil Industries Black Ops Exo Lords Helmets/Heads Set. After that a darker grey paint. Benaeth the suit they are all blue Chiss! ;)

Love the idea of a Chiss as the elite. The head swap is good, and the painting is your usual level of excellent. The elite troopers are stellar. The grey looks amazing on those uniforms. That's how I imagine the Shadow Troopers should look, rather then just Stormtroopers in black armor.

I played a lot IA the last weeks.
And I even got the core 6 heroes finished.

I wanted a more or less coherent look for all 6, like a military squad. I also wanted to keep them close to the character cards.

Detailed shots of each char are on my website!

Next are the Trandoshan hunters and the AT-ST.

ST_2.jpg)
The AT-ST! I reposed the legs a bit, re based the minis, scratched the mold lines again, sanded it, drilled holes in the barrels and finally painted the AT-ST. And since I wanted a military and only slightly weathered look, I used German WW II grey and some weathering here and there, mostly Pigments from MIG and some edge rust and highlights.

Hunter_1.jpg)
The Trandoshan Hunters - since playing the SWTOR Jedi Consular story I like Trandoshans, Qyzen Fess is just a very rich and compelling character. The 4 minis in the box are all identical posed, so time for some conversion work. I cut the arms and head of the beige hunter and re-glued them in a slightly different pose.

And scenery!
Scenery, for what? The games comes with markers and all, or? All true, but for me it brigs the game even more to live. And since I had some Sedition Wars scenery unused, I decided to paint the terminals
and some crates in Imperial grey / red.

pg)

Yes, indeed. Actually, I took it to be a reflection of a red "cabin combat lighting", but it works perfectly on an "evil glows red" level, too. Comic-book style rather than the rather sober "used universe" look of the original trilogy.

Not the promised Elite Trandoshans (still WIP) this week, but the two Nexu from the core box.

The Nexu predators - Nexus were feline creatures native to the chilly forests of the Indona continent on the planet of Cholganna. There were other breeds of nexus on Cholganna's other continents, but only the forest nexu had an additional set of eyes able to view in infrared wavelength, which aided in their hunting of bark rats and tree-climbing octopi.
Nexu were often exported and trained as security beasts, as used for patrolling on Malastare, or used in arena combat, as seen on Geonosis - you do remember the arena fight of Padme vs the Nexu in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, or?

The Imperial Assault sculpt captures the brutal feel of the Nexu very good IMO! I reposed the Nexu a bit under hot water to distinguish the two beast on the table.

Funny thing is that I am one of the few Star Wars fans that are NOT Wookie/ Chewie fans! But to play with them is just nice. They also paint up in minutes! As usual you get identical minis, so again time for a slight conversion, this time a simple weapon swap.

The Elite Trandoshan Wookie Hunter is the most serious conversion so far. I only used the head, lower legs and arms of the FFG Imperial Assault miniature. All the rest are Dreamforge Heavy Valkir Troopers.

The mini is based on the Star Wars: The Old Republic Trandoshan companion of the Jedi Counsular class shown here:

“In contrast to many Trandoshans, Qyzen Fess rejected the path of a mercenary to become a hunter of the galaxy’s most dangerous beasts. Earning “Jagganath points” with every honorable kill, Qyzen has traveled for years, seeking worthy prey and honoring his goddess, the Scorekeeper. Although his travels have brought him to Tython several times, he is never seen by the Jedi if Yuon Par is not at the temple.
Despite his disdain of fame and fortune, Qyzen has attracted some notoriety. He often slips through apparently watertight Imperial borders to follow his prey, much to the consternation of the Empire’s officials. Qyzen is also the only living hunter to have killed a greater crested gundark, thought extinct for centuries. His simple habits and devotion to the Scorekeeper give him common ground with the Jedi, though many disapprove of the attitudes and instincts that come naturally to a Trandoshan.”

Once completing the Lvl 60 Yavin story line you can get a big set of armour for him, I coloured the armour light grey and black and tried to emulate that look on the miniature.

Lovely work as usual, Agis! I especially enjoy the conversions. I like the IA figures, but their mono-pose nature has been bothering me too.

What glue are you using with the FFG parts? Just superglue, or do you have a solvent cement that works for them?

Most of the time superglue and pinning. Sometimes two part epoxy glue (to fill a gap).

That Han Solo is awesome and everything that makes it such a nice figure is accentuated by book ending it with that WoC one.  The detail and dynamic pose are stunning; love how the open hand is counter balancing him in motion.  Both figures are beautifully painted Agis but the new one was a stellar canvas for you to work on!

Post by: Agis on December 12, 2015, 10:30:59 AM
(http://www.adpublishing.de/assets/images/Imperial_Assault_Osakara_3.jpg)

I recently got also into Star Wars Edge of Empire role playing. We played the beginners adventure and I got the (at least IMO cool) Twi’Lek Bountyhunter Oskara. After the second evening I decided to convert a mini to represent her.

So who is Oskara? “Osakara was a native of the planet Ryloth. When her sister, Makara, was captured by Aqualish thugs to work in the Ryll spice mines she offered her services to the gang leader as an "experienced bounty hunter." Her first job went well and she was mentored by Gyax, a veteran hunter. Oskara continued to work for the spice mine gang to keep her sister safe.

The spice gang loaned her out to Teemo the Hutt on Tatooine and although Teemo paid her well she learned that Teemo was planning on seizing the Ryll spice mine. Fearing for her sister's safety she partnered with the Wookiee gladiator Lowhhrick and the Human pilot Pash and sent a warning to her compatriots back on Ryloth.

Oskara was female Twi'lek with green skin. She would seem jaded and cynical due to her rough childhood. She was careful not to get too attached to anything or anyone and focused on her mission instead of emotional entanglements.” from Wookieepedia.
Since I am going to play Oskara using the Assassin talent tree I will use the Mak cards in Imperial Assault! The mini is based on a Dreamforge Eisenkern female Panzerjäger body with a WotC Twi’Lek Dancer head. Lots of greenstuff and Lekku bending were also involved...
Works for me next to the official IA minis...

General Weiss, the main villain of the IA starter box!

I added a communication array (OK just an antenna) on the right side of the walker, opened the cupola, scratched the mold lines as usual, sanded it, drilled holes in the barrels and finally painted the Generals prototype AT-ST. And since I wanted an even darker look, I used a dark German WW II grey and some weathering here and there, mostly Pigments from MIG and some edge rust and highlights. The red striping also helps to distinguish the walker on the tabletop.

Lovely paintjob as always. I am sure there are some of those "words things" on your blog that was recently didcussed, but I will stick with the pretty pictures. :-)
Weiss' AT-ST always threw me with the different weapons. Sort of a Canon Stars Wars guy myself. Same thought goes for the WotC AT-ST with the Ewok capturing guns.

I always wondered about Weiss. Can't ever really find any info on him.
Only that he rides around in a heavily customized AT-ST. And that he fought on Dantooine.

Thanks! I am also quiet happy with the Weiss mini, it fits the story of the main campaign in Imperial Assault.  :)
His walker is NOT a final rugged piece of military hardware, it is a prototype...

General Sorin the main villain of the Return to Hoth expansion!

A very nice miniature and a joy to paint.

General Sorin is the commander of an armored division of the Empire’s forces, and whether he takes the field in a campaign or a skirmish, he’ll quickly revolutionize the way you use your Droids and Vehicles.

As an officer, General Sorin truly enters his own when he leads a division of armor against enemy forces.

Return to Hoth, the new expansion for Imperial Assault features four HK Assassin Droids!

Ever since KotoR I liked HK, to get him as a miniature was very nice!
I painted the initial 2 in the colours of HK-51 from SWtoR.
I also painted a nice little WotC bendy plastic power Droid just for the fun of it.

In addition I finished some more scenery for the game...

Nice work there.  I'm struck by the fact that those figs could be pressed into service as fantasy and Mythos/horror cultists with minimal effort, especially with a different color scheme and maybe a bit of conversion work on the weapons.  Always nice to have more potential cultists out there, even if these are probably a bit expensive to crib for use outside their home game.

That funny, my wife said two days ago: "what are these evil red cultist you are working on"...
 :o 8)
So yes, give them a hooded head and another weapon and - voila - instant cultist.

You don't even need hooded heads or weapon swaps. Those are denizens of Leng, didn't you know? Ïa, ïa!

We finished the campaign of the basic game box, so time to move forward to Twin Shadows!
I finished the two heroes of the Twin Shadows Expansion.
The mini shown for Biv the left is of course not the one provided with Twin Shadows. I foolishly gave the mini away and had to replace it with a suitable conversion.
(A rather sad story  :-\, Sean Davis of South Ayrshire, Scotland approached me in December 2015 where to get SW minis, after some nice PMs we agreed that I send him some Imperial minis - including a rare Emperor mini - and he agreed to paint me the Biv mini. I sometimes like to have minis from other skilled painters for inspiration. After countless PMs, mails from my side he did not delivered the painted mini to me, I even asked him to send me just the mini back - nothing. No more replies from Sean since July 2016.
But as always - with something bad something good comes too. I will use my Gran Bounty Hunter conversion (http://www.adpublishing.de/html/star_wars.html), so the mini finally gets some gaming table time.)  ;)

Kayn Somos Villain Pack
(http://www.adpublishing.de/Kayn_Somos_1.jpg)
Kayn Somos was an Imperial stormtrooper commander active during the height of the Galactic Civil War. He was particularly infamous for being ruthless in his tactics, as well as being particularly vicious and ruthless even by stormtrooper standards, let alone stormtrooper commander standards. He also headed the Stormtrooper training facility on Morvogodine, which often sent stormtroopers on "peacekeeping" missions as final tests, and much like its commander was rather notorious for being very vicious.
Kayn Somos is a character that was introduced as the main villain for the Twin Shadows expansion of Star Wars: Imperial Assault.

Haven't finished my first campaign yet, but I'm planning to get one started when a buddy comes back from his vacation.

Good!
In the first 3 missions is it a bit hard for the rebels, after that they become more seasoned and better equipped, the empire player got it more and more difficult then.

"The Rebel Alliance fights against unimaginable odds. The Empire holds countless star systems in its grasp, and it has the material to manufacture thousands of warships and weapons every day. For the Rebel Alliance to ever achieve victory, they need some way to combat this power. Thankfully, the Rebellion has some members with a special talent for explosive solutions who can ensure that a key factory suffers unaccountable setbacks or a prototype starship never reaches development... "

As usual I could not resist to convert one of the two identical minis a bit. I added a human head and repositioned the blaster arm a bit, after that a slightly different paint job and the two look no more like twins.

The original head will be used in a future squad. A small peek below, Rebel Trooper in Scarif colours...

I finished my Scarif themed Rebels. Since I really did not liked the look of the Rebels in Episode IV (I just do NOT like the Correllian vest look), I decided to convert some minis to make them look like tough Scarif troopers.

LAM Scrap Droids and Ugnaught Tinkerer
(http://www.adpublishing.de/assets/images/Imperial_Assault_Ugnaught_1.jpg)
The Tinkerer is right out of the Bespin box. Since he has the ability to create junk droids and I do not like simple markers I searched for suitable minis. Since I backed the Astropolis KS I am lucky to own some of the bots from this range, perfect fit IMO!

Post by: Agis on March 25, 2017, 11:07:13 AM
Loku Kanoloa is a veteran sniper of the Mon Calamari special forces, a deadly marksman.  Loku Kanoloa relies on clever battlefield reconnaissance to bring down his targets, placing recon tokens and gaining a host of benefits for attacking enemies with recon tokens.
He is often accompanied by the loyal medical droid, MHD-19. MHD-19 has been trained in thousands of medical procedures and will go to any lengths to protect his companions – even taking up arms against Imperial soldiers!
MHD, Man Cal Navy Assistant, Loku
Both heroes are from the Return to Hoth expansion. After painting my Scarif troopers I decided to paint them in similar colours.
I also wanted the more muted Mon Cal skin look of Admiral Raddus.

After looking up some pictures of him I also wanted a mini that looks like one of Raddus assistants - Caitken and Shollan.
(http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/b/b8/White_Calamari.png/revision/latest/window-crop/width/200/x-offset/0/y-offset/55/window-width/528/window-height/264?cb=20161106013017)
I used one of my age old WotC bendy Mon Cals and painted it accordingly. Mon Calamari who were not the same skin tone as the beloved Admiral Ackbar. Ackbar comes from a more tropical region of his planet, the new Rogue One characters are from a polar region. I just love the small background stories and infos they created for even the smallest detail of Rogue One!

Wonderful painting.
I have some HK-droids and a grav-tank prepped for an undercoat.

Good to hear the are fleshing out the new EU.
I loved that every character in the old EU had a story to them.
Tales of the cantine. bountyhunters and such.

I think Disney is doing a really good job rebuilding the universe. They make use of the old favourites, like bringing back admiral thrawn and Tie-defenders. And they tie it al together by having references to star-wars rebels in rogue one.

They really get me in full geek mode and I'm fully into star-wars once again. Something that has been on low burn for years, only getting into it since I tentavely started playng x-wing.
Nothing tentavely about it now.

Hera and Chopper Ally Pack

I liked Clone Wars and I like Rebels, you can imagine that I was happy when FFG announced the Hera and Chopper pack! I would love to a dedicated “Rebels” campaign for Imperial Assault.

“Hera Syndulla was a Twi'lek female revolutionary who became a central figure in the early rebellion against the Galactic Empire and the formation of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Born the daughter of General Cham Syndulla on Ryloth, she saw firsthand the devastation of the Clone Wars and the reign of the Empire on her homeworld. Syndulla became an expert pilot and left her homeworld and her father's planetary resistance behind, setting off across the galaxy to build her own resistance movement against the Empire aboard her starship, the Ghost. Kanan Jarrus, a Jedi who survived Order 66, joined her during the Gorse conflict. Her crew, which mounted an insurgency on Lothal, eventually was comprised of Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren, Lasat survivor Garazeb Orrelios, Syndulla's life-long astromech droid Chopper, and Padawan Ezra Bridger.
The rebellion Syndulla led on Lothal attracted the attention of such Imperial leaders as Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin and the Sith Lord Darth Vader, but it also gained notice by Senator Bail Organa and his efforts to coordinate activities between various rebel cells in the galaxy. One of those cells was Phoenix Squadron, which Syndulla and her crew joined in 4 BBY. Syndulla herself became Phoenix Leader, leading various starfighter operations for the cell. In 2 BBY, the cell became one of the first to join the Rebel Alliance upon its formation. Their forces were devastated by Grand Admiral Thrawn during the battle of Atollon, and Syndulla helped the Rebel Alliance rebuild at their headquarters on Yavin 4. Syndulla was promoted to the rank of General and became a member of Alliance High Command. She continued to serve the Rebel Alliance during the Galactic Civil War and was present on Endor following the Alliance's triumph over the Empire and the death of Emperor Palpatine.” from starwars.wikia.com

“C1-10P, commonly known as "Chopper," was a C1-series astromech droid with masculine programming who was active during the Clone Wars and the early years of the Galactic Empire. He was a member of the Spectres, a rebel cell led by the Twi'lek captain Hera Syndulla and the Jedi Kanan Jarrus that fought against the Empire. He was responsible for maintaining the Ghost, a modified VCX-100 light freighter which served as the rebel cell's main base of operations. During his time with the crew of the Ghost, Chopper took part in numerous raids and missions against Imperial targets.
Due to his old age and lack of regular maintenance, Chopper developed an argumentative, cantankerous, and mischievous personality. Despite these personality flaws, he was a loyal member of his rebel crew. Later, Chopper and his fellow rebels joined the Phoenix Squadron, which was part of the rebellion. In 3 BBY, he befriended the Imperial RA-7 protocol droid AP-5. Together, the two played an important role in helping the Phoenix rebels discover a new base on the planet Atollon, which was named Chopper Base in Chopper's honor.” from starwars.wikia.com

Davith Elso is a Force user with a knack for stealthy operations.

Davith Elso is joined in his covert espionage missions by Murne Rin, an Ithorian intelligence master.
Though her outward role is that of a diplomat, Murne Rin is a useful asset for any mission, as your Imperial foes will soon discover.

Both heroes are from the Bespin Gambit expansion.
While Murne is painted as shown in the IA artwork, Davith is painted in the colours Anakin showed in the animated Clone wars series.
I also gave him an alternative light sabre.

Wow!  I like this pair.  By not making the Ithorian's robes too bright, and giving the human the most subtle blue accents, you tie them together most subtly!  The lightsaber colour helps too.  Really nice work here!

After the release of a Rogue One Pao look alike by Brother Vinni, I had to add him to the Scarif squad!

Paodok'Draba'Takat, most commonly known as Pao, was a male Drabatan soldier who served as a commando in the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War, and took part in the Battle of Scarif. Prior to the Battle of Scarif, Corporal Pao carried out a demolitions job on Foerost where he took out a communications tower similar to the one on Scarif. He was killed during the Battle of Scarif, along with the rest of Rogue One.

My buddy from Heer 46 released some “working Droids””. I like them a lot and painted some samples ASAP:

And with Imperial Assault minis:

Works for me!

The Astromechs are spot on for Imperial Assault; the boxy energy droid is perfect for Legion...

Title: Re: Star Wars Imperial Assault - Agent Blaise and Ugnauhts
Post by: Agis on August 25, 2018, 12:42:57 PM

I finished Agent Blaise from the Bespin Expansion/ Villain Box:
Throughout the galaxy, Emperor Palpatine’s Galactic Empire has created an atmosphere of suffocating fear and submission. No one dares to speak out, and those who do are quickly and efficiently silenced. These terror tactics are the work of the Imperial Security Bureau, the Empire’s secret police. Anyone you know could secretly be an ISB agent, and these agents are renowned for their lack of moral compunctions. Only the most foolish Rebels would dare to take the ISB lightly.
On Cloud City, the ISB operatives are commanded by none other than Agent Blaise, a cunning and dangerous interrogator and warrior.

And the 3 Ugnaughts from the Bespin box are finally done:

A lightbroom. Or, to go with those increasingly impractical lightweapons, a lightrake.

Great painting, though. A bit harsh on the highlights for my taste, but the colour composition looks spot on and those Ugnaughts work swell.

Amazing stuff

The single pose of the Troopers annoyed me a bit, since the material is easy to work with I started a conversion.

Me too, any idea of the size comp with Legion STs?

Alternative Minis
Masons Blind Beggar Rebels   :)
If you are looking for additional Rebels, do not look any further, Blind Beggar Miniatures fit the bill! You can immediately envision these folks on the beach of Scarif or on Endor. While a bit short for Legion, they fit perfectly to IA!

The mini is a minor conversion, I used a female head for the mini since the mini is bigger than a IA Storm Trooper but a bit smaller than a Legion DT.

The Grand Inquisitor, the main villain of the Rebels TV series.
Commonly known simply as the Inquisitor, was the name adopted by a Pau'an male Jedi Knight who turned to the dark side of the Force and became the leader of the Inquisitorius, a band of Jedi hunters who served the Galactic Empire.

A small conversion, I replaced the Lightsabre blades (they were bended beyond saving) and a Necromunda base.

Shyla Varad - from Jabba's Realm

Shyla Varad was a Human Mandalorian female who hailed from the planet Mandalore, the cultural homeworld of the Mandalorian people, located in the galaxy's Outer Rim. Varad became renowned for her skill with both a pair of blades and a fibercord whip, using both in tandem on the battlefield to great effect.
During the reign of the Galactic Empire, Varad found herself far from home and cut off from her people, but she continued to live by Mandalorian tradition and eventually took up arms against the Empire. Varad was obsessed with learning about the Death Watch after she learned of a hidden base that contained records of the group.
Shyla Varad possessed a suit of traditional Mandalorian armor, comprised of a set of chrome-grey plates over a blue flight suit, in addition to a brown leather utility belt worn at her waist, and a light blue cape. Her armor was equipped with a whipcord launcher, and Varad owned a pair of vibroswords, along with a variety of smoke bombs and remote detonators.
