Title: (Kickstarter) PSC going to the green fields beyond
Post by: Mad Doc Morris on February 07, 2015, 10:08:52 AM
Not seen it mentioned here, so: The Plastic Soldier Company is going to produce 15mm plastics for WW1. :o
Their Kickstarter seems to have come from nowhere, here's the

LINK (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1992455033/the-great-war-0).

I reckon the attached boardgame is meant to get things rolling. But given it's another Command & Colors variant, it's probably not too bad. ;)

By the look of it, they're aiming at a 1916+ setting, Brits and Germans for a start. But one can hope for French to follow… ::)

Some piccies:

While it all looks attractive, the price is above what I personally think is market value ($105.00 shipping included) is about $35.00-$40.00 too much I'm afraid. I often buy into the P500 games at GMT Games so I don't think that I am far off the guestimate mark.

True.
I guess funding the plastic minis was most likely their primary goal. Like many crowdfunders, though, they've cleverly appealed to the much more prosperous boardgaming market. That's probably also why they are very hesitant to add any new faction to the game now (which is a shame). It might change once their – admittedly, rather ambitious – stretch goals are reached, with the additional funds to cover at least a starter investment into another set or two. We'll see.

well they're already stated they will be doing expansions for this including maybe a ANZAC one

Yes, but not as part of the current campaign, if I got that comment by Will Townshend correctly:

Quote
This is the core game focussed on trench warfare between 1915-17. We have many expansions planned to include French, Russian, US, Austro Hungarian, Italian and Anzac expansions. Also lots of additional rules and miniatures such as armoured cars. Richard has also muttered airplanes to me on a number of occasions. I can reveal the first planned expansion is Tank! for autumn 2915 [sic!]

So, if it goes well enough (and it does), this Kickstarter is rather an initial funding for later add-ons, I guess.

Although the price seems a little high I'm backing this one.  I like the m44 and C&C systems, and PCS look like they are trying to put out a real quality product which I th ink deserves support!
