Title: English sailors - ready for battle! (Bases finished!)
Post by: Regulator on September 23, 2008, 06:37:34 PM
Hi all,

I have painted this figure today (Or havn't finished yet - base and shoes are missing... ), which I get to my 14th birthday, two days ago. Should be an english sailor for my high seas games. I hope you like it  :)

I have him - he's a lovely figure. He'll do very well for your High Seas games.

Happy birthday by the way. And may I say that for 14, your painting is brilliant!

I second everything above.

At 14, you must be our youngest member (most gamers your age delve deeply in Warhammer or Warhammer 40.000 instead of historicals)?

That is awesome for a 14 year old I actually only got into gaming with the Warhammer boxed rules and a few citadel miniatures at 15!

My painting aint that good at 40  lol

Well done, excellent, lovely..............

Hi,

thank you for all the exellent comments!

I second everything above.

Well, I am very interested in historical moments. Also, my two brothers are playing historical tabletops like I do.  My two siblings are writing some books about Prussian Flags and Germanic mythology.
I've got some historical books which I get from the library in which my dad is working (very cool! if I need a book, I'll tell my father the title and in the next morning I'll get it  :))
So I growed up in a family of historical freaks!
All told, I like the historical battles more than fantasy ones. I changed fast from warhammer to historical
Tabletops...

But now the second pirate - hope you like it.

Great   8)

I started historical gaming at about 13-14 years, too, Airfix 1:72 Napoleonics  :)  Got hooked on history because I read Asterix and my parents dragged me around to historical sites all over western Europe when we were on car vacation with a caravan.

Very nice painting, wish I could produce such quality so fast... some people just seem to have it in their wrist...  :)

Well done! At 14 I think I was still slapping on thick enamel paints with a brush that resembled Larry Fine's hair.

Your color choice on the second pirate leaves something to be desired though. A blue and grey blouse with purple and yellow  pantaloons?!? If he is not hung for piracy he will be for crimes against fashion. lol

Aaron, you hypocrite. I saw you in that same ensemble leaving a club just last night, giggling effusively amisdt a group of handsome and similiarly bedecked Spanish men.

Its even better that the first, I love it!

These are my favourite figures you are painting! Good man.

Lovely work, although if you want a bit of honest feedback, I'd say that the blue and white AND the yellow and purple on the second figure, don't really go together. Just too many colour combinations on one figure.
Neat brushwork though.

Yes, a lot of different colors. But when I painted the figure (trousers yellow, sweater blue) I didn't like the colours very much (looked very boring to me :( ). So I decided to paint the clothes in two parts - yellow purple and blue white. But now the wear looks to coloured. Still I don't feel like doing to re-paint the whole clothes again ...

I'm sure pirates wore what they captured and it fitted, roughly.  I don't think that going to a Menswear store for coordinated dress was high on their social calender............. lol

I imagine most soldiers in history, after a few days marching, looked very little like the uniform plates of the time.

So, now the last part and a great thanks to all of you!
Here's the pirate number 4 (and last) pirate for my little high seas crew. I won't update my crew in the next weeks. But there'll be an update though - the guys on their bases  :) .

All told: I just can repeat the words I have told on much forums - the models are great and I give advise to buy these models for your little high seas range!

tadada! The last pirate (http://www.sdean-forum.co.uk/phpBB2/images/smiles/065.gif):

Wow! those are really nice.  At 14 I painted like crap but still had fun (my painting has improved a slight bit) plus the fact that we had crap miniatures compared to what’s out now, not that they were not good for the time.  So your lucky to be painting that nicely and have outstanding sculpts to work on.  Keep it up.
