Title: 28mm Skull piles
Post by: blackstone on March 10, 2015, 09:45:01 AM
Pics of some resin skull piles I've finished recently. Wondering if some piles with a flat edge for fitting up against walls would be useful? Or maybe a skull pit?

They do add to the sinister dungeon atmosphere...OUTSTANDING paint jobs. They bring up images of the Catacombs beneath Paris or a supply room at G.W.. GREAT WORK!

Those are fantastic!  The skulls certainly add a sinister look to the room, someone's been busy taking heads for a long time . . .  :o

Cheers! I originally sculpted 25 skulls. From them I made a huge mold so I could mass cast in resin.  Think I was getting around 250 per casting but airbubbles were a problem. Still got lots of useable skulls though. May get them cast in metal at some point.

Pic of the original skulls.

Pic of how the skulls come out when cast.  I'll be making the skull piles available for anyone interested also the individual skulls on mass if the demand is there.

Ooh, lovely kit.  :-* Right up my alley (or, rather, dungeon...)! I'd be interested as well.

Some wall or corner stacks would be really useful indeed.

As usual I'm interested in your casts! I'll gladly buy several skull piles from you. Your casts are always superb and at great value 8)

Definite interest, especially if there loose bones or loose remain piles are also available.

Thanks for the comments! Fram I did make a small mould with bones and ribcases etc so I could produce the larger pieces. I've attached a pic to show how they come out. Rather like the skulls they are on a thin film of resin and need to be trimmed before use. Would these be useful?

Yup, I could use a bunch of plain skulls and bones (the bag'o'skulls I bought from... Black Cat?... contains a lot of skulls with eyes and/or a variety of gooey leftovers instead of bare bone).

How would people feel if I cast up batches of skulls, weeded out those with air bubbles and them made up bags of 100 at random from the good ones . There are 25 different skulls but I couldn't guarantee what each pack would contain.
Title: Re: 28mm Skull piles
Post by: Gunbird on March 12, 2015, 09:25:46 AM
I wouldn't even mind air bubbles, fill in with a bit of GS or Milliput or sand down on that side. Heck, I'd take a bag of seconds just for scatter :) But bags of 100 sound great :)
Title: Re: 28mm Skull piles
Post by: Modhail on March 12, 2015, 09:50:52 AM
Yup... I'd totally go for say a set up like a bag of skulls, a bag of ribcages and long bones. I wouldn't mind air bubbles either, they could serve as damaged/broken bones. Perhaps do bags of "factory seconds" with a mix of skulls and long bones to get the miscasts off your hands?

Personally, I'd be interested in the skull piles. So many uses for them for gaming. I already have zillions of separate skulls, but no piles. And no, don't fancy making them myself ;)

I'm amazed you sculpted 25 different skulls! I would definitely be interested in a bag (or two) and possibly also some piles of bones.
Title: Re: 28mm Skull piles
Post by: blackstone on March 12, 2015, 01:45:32 PM
Test casting large amounts of the skulls and its going well. Will probably sift through them for rejects since I don't really like sending out casts with large airbubbles although some may slip through.
I sculptured the 25 for some decent variation. They are slightly different sizes but could all pass for human. No obvious orc or troll skulls. Here's a pic of the greens.

I could also find uses for a few sets and the piles (especially if you can do a smaller corner pile).
Just need to know costs and shipping price (to Europe)
Title: Re: 28mm Skull piles

It'll be a short while before I get the bones set and the wall/corner piles into production. ( But next week sometime all being well). The large, medium and small skull piles from the initial pictures are available along with packs of 100 skulls. ( casting went well today.)

Price wise I'm thinking £3 for the large skull pile, £1.20 for the medium and £1.20 for 3x small piles. For 100 skulls 8.99. How do these sound?

cheers

Iain

Definitely interested... Love the painted examples.

Will you ship to USA?

What about the misc bone pieces, will you sell those as well? I need lots of scatter for catacombs and caverns... :-)

Oh, and should you at a later point decide on doing other races' skulls and bones, I'd be very interested, too!!

Definitely. Shipping to US and Europe would come in around 3.99GBP. Less in the UK. Just skulls in the UK could go large letter class which would be around £1 postage.

Here's a pic of the bones set. It would come on a sheet of resin and the bits are then trimmed off as needed. So currently ready are the 3 bone piles, skulls in bags of a 100, and the bones set. Send a PM if interested. Thanks!

Blackstone,

I Cans ay i dont think i would mind air bubbles. Especially if it means you wanna throw some extra in to get rid of em at a good price. :-)

I for one could use some bags of bone goodies once you get things sorted.
US shipping here as well.

So I had been hand sorting through all the skulls and removing those with airbubbles then packing them by weight. 7g worked out over 110 skulls. Trouble was it was too much handling having to check every skull. Each pack is now 10g which should mean at least 100 good skulls with any airbubbled as "extras".

Have some pics of the masters for the wall/corner pieces along with a smaller skull pile option. I've put all these in an ebay listing which hopefully has all the options working with the correct postage etc. Ebay listing here. Ah this is a problem with the ebay cart that I can't  resolve atm. People usually message me for the combined total postage or I refund any overpayment. Postage wouldn't be more than 3 for the UK or 3.99 worldwide. Or pm me.

Cheers

Did anyone play the old PC game Myth? These remind me of the Myrkridia beasts that used to make ziggurats out of skulls. That's a good thing.

Sorry about that. Very annoying as I can't figure out how to solve the problem. I'm going to remove the ebay multi-listing and re-list the items individually. That way I should be able to get the postage to combine.

Cheers

Hi there,

Are these sets still available?  I've had them on "watched" for a while on eBay, but when I went to get them (payday) - they had gone.... Sob.

I'm after pretty much one of every set you do (small, medium, large, corner sets - both skulls and bones/ debris sets)
