The passing of Terry Pratchett has been, well, announced,

The sad departure of one of my favorite authors.
:(
I should have probably written this all in capitals.
RIP
-
Yes, truly a sad day. To me this chap is sans pareille. There is no other author whose books I have awaited with such eagerness. :'(
-
Hear hear.
I'd like to think of him shaking hands with Death and giving Binky a lump of sugar.
-
A very sad day for all his fans, but I'm sure there will be a very warm welcome for him and his stories when he reaches the Pearly Gates.
RIP
You will be greatly missed.

"Oh no"... "OH YES" (to copy from the master himself)
The one redeeming thing is that I have not yet read all of his stuff. He will be missed.

Perfectly said! Truely a sad day!!
-
No!

I thought I was having a bad day, then this news came up :( :( :( :( :(
I somehow always hoped I might be lucky and meet him some day :'(
-
This is very sad. I've been reading his Vimes and Moist von Lipwick books during the last few months and was flabbergasted by how good they are.
-
What a loss, I so looked forward to the continued adventures of Disk World. We have lost to posterity yet another of the great creative writers...
-
This being a long time coming doesn't make it any less of a pity in the end.
-
RIP Sir Pterry. Far and away my favourite author, a true gentleman on the occasions that I met him and definitely one who gave so much back to his fans. Hopefully his passing was as peaceful and personal to him as he wished it to be.
-
Requiescat in pace, Sir Terry. :'(
-
Very sad news. I read his books at school with great affection, and was impressed with his articulate interviews in later life as he battled disease. A genuine character who will be sadly missed.
-
Death said "HELLO" to soon. Life definitely is a bitch.
He formed much of my understanding of humour with his books. RIP

This is sad news. What a great man Terry Pratchett was. My fiancee is a huge fan of all his works and she met him a couple of times at book signings. The first time she met him, he asked her name. Finding out she was called Susan he wrote a bit more than his autograph; some reference to the character Susan from the books that I can't remember. Sound fellow - apparently he stayed several hours past schedule so everyone got to meet him.
-
Very sad news! Couldn't believe it when I turned on the telly. Need to start reading the books again.....
-
't was indeed a sad day to wake up to :'(
-
...iam sad.
his books have allways been a joy for me to read
-
Its hard to see heroes of your youth (and he is still)go forever.......
Have a good journey.....
:'(

"It could be worse," he said by way of farewell. "It could be me."
A quote from the light fantastic.
Genuinely my most beloved author providing countless hours of joy to myself and more recently my children as I read his books to them.
You will be missed Terry.
-
A wise man and he seemed to be one of the good guys.
I never realised Alzheimer's could actually kill you, I always thought it was just a mentally degenerative disease that left the body untouched. Scary, tragic shit.
-
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.
words to live by
RIP
-
I'll need to dig out his books and read them again. He will be sadly missed.
-
We have a whole bookshelf largely dedicated to his works, which are frequently reread (esp. by Neotacha). A fantastic writer in every sense of the word, and from all I have heard, a very decent human being. I was very impressed with the public, but dignified, way he handled his illness.
-
I was very sadden by this news today. I enjoyed his books and his view of the world.
-
"Terry Pratchett was born in 1948 and is still not dead" was a standard introduction to his bio in many of his books.
Alas, no longer true. I will miss him and his stories terribly.
-
Just read it on in the free paper you get on the local bus this morning. One of the greats. The irony is that I've just stated to retread Disc World again on the bus to work cause I've just ordered the minis on line is a little bit frightening. Feel the urge to watch Hogfarther tonight. He will be missed.

I'm welling up here. I've loved his books since the early 1990s and re-read many of his books countless times. Wonderful humour and a very astute observer of human nature and society. I met him once at a signing, couldn't think of a bloody thing to ask him but managed to avoid a "we're not worthy" faux pas.
It's like losing a friend. Deepest sympathy to his family.

I don't normally hit FB or other social media sites at work but I did yesterday over lunch, learned that Pratchett had died, and proceeded to have a lousy afternoon. Serves me right, I guess?
One entire shelf in my largest bookshelf is all Pterry novels, which means that overall something like 1/8th of my reasonable-sized personal library is his books. It's somewhat unusual that I'm not re-reading one of them right now, actually, as I have them in near-constant recirculation...
“Do you not know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?” ― Terry Pratchett, Going Postal

We have many of his books, but not quite all. There is still the last Tiffany Aching novel to come out; I both wait for it eagerly and dread it, because that means there will be no more Pratchetts to meet for the first time.

Terry Pratchett - 66; Douglas Adams - 49; Iain Banks - 59. RIP.
Jeffrey Archer - 74 and still publishing books.
If you exist, God, I don't like you very much.
-
Sad news. Pratchett books are always my refuge when I need a comfortable familiar place to retreat to.

Oddly enough, I was telling my Mother in Law yesterday that I met TP once. She told me that she had met Jeffrey Archer. I was lost for words.

I feel some Discworld themed entries coming on for the LPL. I entered some of the City Watch last year, so will have to come up with something else this year. Nac Mac Feegles will be included in one and I have some miniatures by Micro Art Studios that will be used for another. Just trying to work out if I have time to complete another idea including a cottage and garden.
-
I feel the urge to buy some Disc World minis now...

I use the cupboard under the stairs for that.
