The summer in Germany is too hot to work on my table, but fall and a new "Tabletop-Season" is coming soon. I am working on a Sci Fi Table and 4 Sci Fi Factions (you can see Fire Warriors above from 2006) to play with some Friends using the Judge Dredd Rules Mixed with Fistful of Lead and other ideas.

Greetings and thanks for your awesome pictures you share with me/us,
Jan

So many great elements to be found on your table. I'd pick out what I like the most, but it's everything combined that really makes this a spectacular work of terrain art.

Thank's guys, i am realy happy about your comments. I am just giving back some Tabletop love. ;)
Working on terrain is so cool. It is very creative and easier to paint than minis.
But soon i have to paint more minis to play with other people. My main goal is my own 40k Skirmish Game and a lot of 2on2, 1on1on1on1 or Coop Games with my friends.

But today terrain again.
The User Eilif from Chicago showed us HotWheels Chargers painted for SciFi Wargaming. Because of that i looked at the HotWheels market and bought many sets:

I found out that LEGO Bionicles got good pieces, too:

I found one HotWheels piece that is realy cool for my purposes without big changes:

So i changed it just a bit:

And painted it:

For storing it, you can disassembly it:

The hooks/gripper are made from LEGO Bionicle pieces.
I never saw someone doing this, so maybe i am the first one. I love to be a pioneer.  ;)

Next things will be the HotWheels Chargers like Eilif did them before.

Cheers,
Jan

Jan,
Wonderful looking table.
I know what you mean about doing terrain.
I enjoy making terrain more that I like painting figures.
Great idea with Hotwheels.
A number of years ago Hotwheels did a bunch of dinosaur sets.
Was able to find a number on sale.
Once painted they added a lot to the game.

While my very limited contribution means I've no room to speak, I've got a feeling you'll see a 'paid in full.'

REALLY nice work, real silk purses out of sow's ears.

Oh, forget about that 'paid in full'; you KNOW we'll want more!

Hello again,

i am happy to read (every) comment from you guys. Thank you very much.

As is said before my next tarrain piece idea was stolen from the user Eilif: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=70480.msg857662#msg857662 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=70480.msg857662#msg857662)

I LOVE the HotWheels Power Charger from 1993. The Color ist terrifying, but the shape is so cool. It is the best Power Charger / Power Booster they made (just shape wise). Problem is: To get them! In the USA you can find them sort of frequently on ebay (or go to the second hand stores), but here in germany? No way!
I had luck and got 4 of them in a row on ebay from the US for only 9,- EURO. Shipping was ~30,- EUR, but hey, there were no other possibilities. If we count it togehter 10,- EUR for such an beautiful piece was a good price. But who cares... lets see how i painted them:

Glad to see that you (eilif) saw the stuff now, because your Boosters were the beginning for me searching for new terrain sources.

SiamTiger: Thank you. In der TTW kannst du dir das auch ausführlicher anschauen.  ;)

My terrain stock is grwoing again. But I want MORE! Though it would be cool, to PLAY a Wargame. I realy should finish the Rules and Miniatures (40k Skirmish Time).
But today Terrain again.

But that's the way it is. I don't care.

They've turned out well.

My guess would be nerf guns or water pistols with some lego bionicle parts added in?

Flippin' awesome!
I recognized the bionicle and toy gun elements right away (I've got some of each in my parts bin) but I haven't been able to figure out anything as well-assembled as what you've got there. Really look like cohesive units.  They look great on their foliage bases, but something in me wants to see them perched on top of cypberpunk buildings and landing pads.

One piece I wasn't familiar with. Where is the radar dish from?  Also, what kind of mesh do you use for the grate details. I've noticed it on your other constructions and it adds some great texture.

I've got a bunch of those electronic swords with the light elements still in place. Maybe it's time for some light-up terrain!

Very cool.  It was easy to recognize "oh that's some kind of toy gun" but it doesn't detract from the finished model - which is cool.

Thank you guys very much!
I'm realy happy to make you smile.
So many guys from different places on earth, all brought together by this nerdish, but creative hobby: Wargaming.
And -gaming- is the key word in here.

@eilif
"but something in me wants to see them perched on top of cypberpunk buildings and landing pads. "
Oh yeah, that would be cool. I also like tables that look like desert or canyon style with scifi elements in it (WWX).
And sorry, i dont know where the radar dish is from. Just found it in a box of Lego i think, but nothing is "written" on it.
Do you have new terrain pieces?

After creating so much terrain, i thought it would be cool to see some new minis between it. The plan is to finish my own rulebook (but just for my non-wargaming-friends and me, in german language) so i have to paint 4 factions. Now i got my second faction finished (ok, will add some Cadia Kasrkin later on).

My version of TrueScale SpaceMarines (Bodies from Stormcast Eternal Paladins).

If I ever do skirmish space marines myself, this is pretty close to what I'd planned (i.e. using Sigmarines as the base), so it's nice to see more successful examples of what's a fairly simple conversion.

No new terrain pieces from me yet.  I've been doing alot of LEGO and playing Starcrashers with my son.

Really great job on the Marines. They look slightly Warzone'ish to me, but not at all in a bad way. These are the guys from Age of Sigmar right? Can they be assembled without the tabards?

Thanks guys.
Three spiky Chaos Marines are waiting to be painted, too.

@eilif
OK, now i saw your SpaceshipThread. Looks like fun! I should play X-Wing again.

Tabard and legs are together in one piece. You have to cut them off, but if so, you have to mold (mould) some areas around them. :/

Hey eilif,

i got something for you, my friend.
It was your idea like the Power Chargers. I modified a Indiana Jones Jungle Cutter, too. Great piece for Infinity the Game.
Here you guys can find eilifs version, which is even cooler, because of the addons.

Somehow I missed this before. I love it! It's consierably taller than my cut-down version which I imagine makes it much more usefull in games with vehicles as well as skirmishes.

Your Nerf conversion is absolutely spectacular also. All that great pannely goodness. I particuarly like the upper level standing areas under the shade of the pump.  Nerf guns are supper common in resale shops around here and I keep forgetting to buy some even thought I've meant to since I saw your first nerf conversions.

This time i found a Toy Lightsaber and built my...

I've been catching up with the thread for a bit and enjoying the quality, but I nearly fell of my chair when you showed a picture of the water gun you'd made the tower from, that's a fantastic idea.

I really like the poster as well, though: that makes the scene work well: I'll have to make something similar for my models...

Hello Andy,

yes please, make similar things! I want to see them.

Thank you Ockman, too.

So, in the meantime i went to a new flat. My first child (a son) was born in september and i went on to build terrain again (beside many hours playing video games *sigh*).
But anyway. Some more pieces and i'll stop building terrain and start painting Minis. I want to play wargames, too!

I also pledged Oak & Iron (great Age of Sail Game) and i am reading the Hornblower novels.
So interesting!

Here are the latest terrain pieces...

And I have to ask - as others have - are the buildings scratch-built? They're stunning! Weirdly, though, I think my favourites are the hexagonal columns - they make me think of the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland.

You're not alone! They stood out as being something very clever, simple and strikingly different. I'd love to know how they were made!

A real feast for the eyes.

No dogs here. Why?  ???  :D

The basaltic columns (like you saw them on a titanfall 2 map: https://ougaming.com/images/news/large/184-ougDLCGlitch.jpg (https://ougaming.com/images/news/large/184-ougDLCGlitch.jpg)) and the newest buildings were made out of foam + some bits (scratchbuilts). I have a proxxon hot wire cutter.

The columns were easy to make. You just need a hexagonal piece of board as a pattern.

Here are some wip pictures of some buildings:

Most of the furniture you saw in the "med lab" were out of a Spartan Scenics Set. Sadly oop.

Absolutely stunning terrain!

The attention to detail is brilliant and the terrain remains very playable.

Many thanks for sharing  :)

Really nice stuff! How did you cut the hexagonal rock formations?

Thank you guys!

Hexagonal Columns (basalt columns)

The columns were easy to make. But you need foam (not styrofoam) and a stationary hot wire cutter (like the proxxon "micronot" one).

Look at the attachment.

1) Build a hexagonal piece of board as a pattern (download a hexagonal shape; maybe resize it; print it on a sheet of paper; glue it on a sheet of [paste]board and cut the lines).

2) Cut a square column out of foam.

3) Use needles to put the pattern on one end of the foam column.

4) Cut the column along the sides of the pattern. You have to adjust the angle of the wire of the wire cutter for that.

5) Repeat this multiple times to get more columns and cut them to get different hights.

6) Take a Piece of aluminum foil and crumple it to form a ball. Use this ball and roll over the foam to get a rocky looking surface. (one of the best hints ever!)

7) Glue the columns together (hot glue or "wood glue" or both).

8) Paint it with acrylic colours (For foam Terrain you can use cheap one for wallpapers, maybe mix the prime layer with "wood glue" to prtotect the foam better; i did not). I did the priming BEFORE step 7.

This is some amazing terrain, with some very imaginative repurposing of random objects - keep up the good work.
