I made this in 1999 or 2000 and it's taken me this long to get around to photographing it.
The Triple Goddess in her Moon barge. I originally made this back in 1999/2000 for my Ars Magica Tarot campaign to represent Binah one of the Sephiroth on the Tree of Life.
We only played as far as Yesod (it took 5 years to get that far) so this has never been used on the tabletop :(
The barge is a cast iron or brass affair that I found in a junk shop. I added the Moon at the back out of cardboard and putty. The miniatures are from Prince August/Mithril and show the Goddess in her three forms of Maiden, Mother and Crone. The Crone is from Garrison Miniatures I think.
The base is plasticard with glue-soaked tissue for the water effect.

Simply stunning
-
Very nice - the barge works perfectly; and the models make a grand show; the mother's dress is just brilliant.
-
That's fantastic!
-
bloody awesome
-
Brilliant.
I love the effect on the base too, it sets the scene very nicely.
:-* :-*
(And....You do manage to find some weird stuff in junk shops, don't you? :D).

(And....You do manage to find some weird stuff in junk shops, don't you? :D).
I used to spend a lot of time looking. Woking is full of charity shops.
-
Outstanding find, that. Jealous. Never find anything but plastic junk in my neck of the woods.

Nicely done. 8)

Its a crime its never been on the table top!
-
Pretty unique and very cool!
-
Holy bajingo, colour me impressed! I saw your Kabbalistic Rabbi force on your site too and wondered if you had an interest. Did you ever make any other sephirotic minis etc?
-
Its a crime its never been on the table top!
Oh Yeah!! Wot he said!!
That is simply stunning found object modelling!!
Brilliant re purposing, exquisitely painted figures, masterful concept.
I am simply in awe...
Thank you Sir, for this feast.

For quite some time now I've been contemplating making a decision to try & attempt doing things more quickly, in a timely fashion, circumstances permitting, weather dependent, whenever possible, or, perhaps, convenient.

I built a complete Temple of Malkuth with the altar dish, floor, pillars and four holy creatures as it was a nexus for the players where Sandalphon could talk to them and I had a few bits and bobs for some of the others but, mainly just the Archangels.
It grew from my Ars Magica campaign where the players took the journey of the Fool through a Tarot deck, both major and minor arcana. They then visited the elemental planes to meet the Elemental Kings (I made them in miniature) and, finally, reached the Temple of Malkuth. From there they trod the paths of the tree before going to Yesod. They completed the first quests in Yesod but the campaign stalled there due to lack of time. As I mentioned, it took over 5 years of playing every week to get that far.
Here are some of my 3D Tarot cards they met and interacted with:

Although some, like the planned clock work Wheel of Fortune never got made.

Methinks I shall be forced to blaspheme...
Very, Very well done Sir

All very nice models and some great ideas and conversions, matakishi. :)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that Neopaganism and Tarot qualify this topic as "fantasy", so I moved it here. No offence.
-
Blimey, the vignettes representing the tarot cards are fantastic!
-
Some absolutely stunning stuff there. :-*
-
Although the game may not have been a success, the creations you produced for it are WONDERFUL, IMAGINATIVE pieces. I love the Fool...that seems appropriate. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Stunning work Sir. Absolutely beautiful.
-
Very unusual and excellent ideas and work! :o
-
Creative and interesting stuff. I read and collected Tarot cards many years ago, just as a pastime. Very cool to see them in miniature!!!
-
Wow! Lovely mini-dioramas each of them, and a great idea.
(Quick question, the Hermit figure, what/who is he and is the figure still being made/sold? I'm currently reading the stories that inspired the 7th son movie, and he would make a great Spook)
-
He started out as a Mithril Gandalf and had his hat changed to a hood and a lantern made and added to his staff.
-
i missed this thread when it started but I'm pleased that I've caught it now. I really do like the concept of the Tarot vignettes, and the ones that you have shown have been very skillfully done.
The crone figure on the leading model was originally by Pendragon I believe and called "Troll Witch". I bought a couple back in the early 80's and adopted the name for my then mother-in-law.
-
Gorgeous work, as expected from you ;). I never played Ars Magica but love the idea of a tarot landscape to explore. Great inspiration. Thanks.
-
It doesn't have to be Ars Magica, any rule system would do probably.
Here are a couple more for those that didn't follow the gallery link.

I really must take some better photos of these, my camera was so crappy back then :)
I realise I don't have pictures of the minor arcana, some of which were just as involved as the majors. I'll sort something out in the near future.

I've found some in my old Displaced Miniatures gallery. I'll still do some proper up-to-date- photos when I have some time. For now, here are some of the characters from the minor arcana and other characters from the adventure.
The Man in the Moon from the Moon segment. He's launching captured souls from his storage tubes into his well of souls:

Simply fantastic!
That reminds me I've also got the moon faced Citadel sorcerer somewhere in the mountain of lead; I need to paint this guy one day!
-
I want you to be my DM. :'(
-
I want you to be my DM. :'(
Seconded!
-
They are all such WONDERFUL, imaginative pieces that picking out a favorite would be impossible...but worth the effort nonetheless. OUTSTANDINGLY WELL DONE!
Long ago, well twenty years ago anyway, someone ask is I could do a tarot deck of miniatures. It seemed like a fine idea. It just never happened. It's nice to see someone who succeeded with that project.
-
These are fab, love the Man in the Moon!
-
Lovely work.
I've enjoyed seeing this project develop and thank you for sharing.
Tony

Good grief, this IS a show.
The man in the moon is my favourite too, the Moon-shaped base concept is brilliant. 8) 8) 8)
