Hello folks. I updated the blog with a post about converting old Rogue Trader era models and characters using new GW parts. There's been a lot of Rogue Trader nostalgia going on around here, and while that is awesome...the old models just don't do it for me. I guess I'm just not that nostalgic for the look of the era, but still love the original setting and fun of my earliest gaming days.

Hope you enjoy my twist on Oldhammer. I'm going to be painting these and then running the Battle at the Farm. Stay tuned...

Nice conversions! I especially like Thrugg. Could you tell a bit more about how you made his chainsword?
-
:D I love the new renditions you have done.
-
Thanks guys!
The chainsword was made by hacking up two regular Ork chainswords then gluing them together to make it longer and sanding the sides flat. Then I cut it at that same odd angle as the original and added details from some of the leftover bits on the chainsword. A little plastic rod and sheet for details then a handguard made from an Ork shoulder plate and done!
The tricky part was getting the right arm and pose combo.
-
Despite my general dislike for the current ork plastics I think you did a pretty decent job bringing the old characters back to life, although I do think Hruk is missing something, he's just not the same without that Pizza slice on his head ;)
-
Is that what is on his head? Ha! I never liked that pizza slice helmet...
I might be convinced to put goggles on him if I'm not too itching to paint him.
-
This is absolutely great! I love the conversions, really inspirational :-*

Very good work!

I`ve recently run both battle at the farm and jadeberry hill using 3rd ed rules and RT stats and here are my thoughts
Battle at the Farm
Either half the amount of marines or double the amount of orks, marines are far too powerful even if used badly ;)
Jadeberry Hill
Half the length of the table or increase the game length or some jiggery pokery to do with the generator rolls etc.
My 2p worth ::)

Thanks guys! I'll post some finished pics when I get them and my Deff Dred painted.

Thanks for the tip. I think I'll do half the marine force then as I only have one squad of Crimson Fists painted. I'll increase the Jadeberry Hill table size as well. I'm using a modified Disposable Heroes: Point Blank for this, but it plays out much like RT/2nd, so this helps me with the scenarios. Thanks!

Sorry to throw a spanner in the works, but that is not Hruk, it's the squad leader, which funnily enough is what it says on his base tab.
This is Hruk

It says HRUK on the base tab.
While I personally can't imagine why you'd prefer the current GW plastics and forge world tat to the originals, each to his own and more power to you.
Some nice painting in here. I look forward to seeing how you progress.
-
Odd that, the squad leader looks like more of a Hrukk than Hrukk himself...Who looks rather like a rankd and filer. I could have made the same mistake.

D'oh!
So it is.
Oh well. He'll have to be my Hhruk. Not sure I feel like making another right now. I thought that one was just a regular boy. The squad leader looks more important than this guy. Honest mistake.
Anyway. I'm glad for the skills and styles of sculptors to have moved beyond the 80s and 90s (except for Jes Goodwin, who is amazing). A lot of that old stuff looks like lumps of lead to me. I think we just didn't know any better because it was all we had ;D
To each his own 8)

Another quick update. This time I finished my version of Pedro Cantor. He's ready to lead the fight at the battle at the farm. Just need to paint Thrugg and Hruk and I am ready to run that game! Looking forward to it.

I think you've captured ole' Pedro quite splendidly. You've inspired me to embark upon my own humble Crimson Fists and Orks (1st generation GW plastics no less!) nostalgia trip with this thread! 8)
Keep 'em comin! :D
-
Pedro looks absolutely Badass! :D Just as a Captain of Space Marines should look! :)
-
Thanks! I am almost done what I need to run The Farm scenario. So close...
I also want to run a last stand game of the third company on Badlanding which reminds me of the cover of the RT book of Fists surrounded and fighting for their lives with a shadowy image of am Ork Drex emerging through the battle haze...
Leland: now that sounds great! Would love to see those old plastics done up as Fists. Can't wait to see that!
-
I actually enjoy the look of the newer GW stuff myself. But those are good ones! I especially like the Crimson Fists!
