Title: (Kickstarter) Burrows & Badgers by Oathsworn
Post by: Lovejoy on April 08, 2015, 01:55:30 PM
We've got a new project up, for a range of anthro animal figures. We've got 15 sculpts done, and another 5 in progress. Hopefully there'll be some more too if things go well...

Anyway, here's a link and some pics:

They are looking great  :D

How do they size up compared to each other?

On the KS page, each figure has it's height in mms. And there's a pic here that shows some of the species together:

L to R: Mouse, Hedgehog, Hare, Badger, Mole, Shrew, Marmot, Black rat

Hope that helps!

Just checked the kickstarter-page, love all of them  :)

Only thing that looks a little "unusual" ist the tail of the brown rat around the axe-handle  :?

I'll get round to putting a pound on to show support but I don't have much cash to spend at the moment :)

I hope it works out for you.

A bit overloaded with recent purchases, but threw in a tiny pedge - the other Oathsworn Kickstarter (the robots) I pledged to went without a hitch, had very fast delivery and the models were great, and these look brilliant too - might raise my pledge later  >:D

Thanks guys! I've got the wildcat, lizard and toad sat on my workbench now, still at the roughly shaped stage, but as soon as I get them finished, I'll post some pics.

Challenge accepted! (Might have to give me a little time though - say, 5 or 6 years!)

These look great.
Thanks Tony! Well, the project is funded now, so that's a relief - they will definitely get produced. Now I'd better get back to finishing the sculpting!

I got the toad done:

Now I'm off to work on the wildcat... hopefully finished on that one by tomorrow night.  Then the lizard. ferret, and male fox. Then, we'll see... either more figures, some rules, or I collapse into a comatose state.  :)
cheers

I am backing this. It looks really great. I have great confidence that these will be produced on time and to a great quality.

I am looking forward to the male fox myself, but will be interested to see the wildcat when it is done.

I've made a start on the last 2 Vermin - very early in the process so far, but you can see how I'm doing it here:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/oathsworn/burrows-and-badgers/posts/1201368 (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/oathsworn/burrows-and-badgers/posts/1201368)

Still lots to do if I'm going to get them finished by Sunday night... plus I have to do a PDF of the basic rules by Monday night; just a taster though - I won't have time to do the whole type-up. It'll have to be movement, combat and shooting; no time for the magic and experience rules yet.

And Jo's been busy sculpting some scatter terrain; ruined building corners, a cooking pot, tents, stuff like that. Basically a little campsite in a ruined farmstead. It was really just meant for us to use, but we'll probably have a go at moulding and casting it in resin.

cheers,
Michael

Any thoughts about boardsize yet?

Love the ferret, by the way  :-*

Yeah, we've been using 3x3' boards for playtesting. So far the rules have just been a load of handwritten notes with endless crossings-out and changes. But hopefully today I'll get the basic core rules typed up and PDFed, and do an update with a download link. I'd like to get the whole thing done, but that will take me a few weeks...

I'll take some decent pics of the ferret later, once I've completed the fox. I'm not taking the step-by-step pics for the fox, so he's coming together much quicker thankfully. I might get to bed before 2 tonight!   :`

The fox is simply superb, boom, boom. I thought the ferret looked a bit camp, then relished it was a lady ferret. I must pay more attention. Keep up the good work.

Last few hours for this project... so I thought I'd nudge the thread!   ;)

I've also got one last model to show you, and it's a freebie model with any miniatures or terrain pledge. Mouse-oleum!

Sweet, a freebie!

The Ferret and fox made me wish I had the scratch for the baddies, but it's not in the cards.  Really looking for ward to getting my good-beasts though.  They look wonderful!

Yeah, I like the ferret and fox too... I'm conflicted on whether to be a good guy or bad...

But then, I'll have to paint them all anyway for the webshop!

My personal fav is the Marmot, and, being the mercenary he is, he can fight for both sides, right ;)

Next in line would be the Hare for me

Technically, he's a good guy... but we've been playing a rule where bad guys can take 1 'good' model in their list, (either they've turned bad, gone insane, or have a grudge etc). Still torn on whether or not to make them pay extra points though...

Needs an owl next...
I'm going to have a try at a bird or two over the next couple of weeks. The biggest issue for me is working out a convincing way to sculpt the wings / hands thing. I'm not a fan of the old 'feathers=fingers' style.

Neither am I. Would it be enough to have just a helmet/armour and fighting with talons, or even holding a weapon with its feet?

It might be hard to pose them well like that though... it could be possible to have them hold things in their hands; technically they do still have the hand and finger bones, although they are mostly fused together, and the alula is basically a thumb. So they could hold weapons, but not with a proper grip.

I found this pic which shows the sort of idea, but the feathers beyond the hand would need to be longer.

Apologies for a delay in posting: the Kickstarter models landed the other week, but I've been kept busy by archaeology fieldwork (long story).
I went in for 5 of the models (and the freebies!  :D), and these are just brilliant. Beautifully proportioned and modeled, very nicely detailed, full of character..... I'm almost afraid to paint them. Some are a bit larger than I expected, and are most impressive.
The hare, my original favourite, looks tough and masteful; the marmot is a thickset, angry chap with an impressive morningstar; the Ferret rogue is a beauty; the fox rogue is elegantly posed and has an incredible tail; and the wildcat - a large one - is gorgeous. And the mousegrave makes for an unusual piece of scenery - wonderful stuff.
Very pleased with them, and with the usual smooth running of the Kickstarter.  8) 8) 8)

Got mine last week.   The 10-model "Goodbeasts" pledge and 2 freebies. They look to be excellent sculpts. My only disappointment is that many of the figs are smaller than I was expecting, but that's more my fault for not paying attention to the heights as listed on the KS page.  If they'd arrived a bit earlier they'd be my warband for our summer SoBH campaign, but rest assured they'll hit the table eventually.

Thanks very much! I think it went pretty well too - we allowed extra time to cover for problems, but there weren't any, thankfully!

Cheers! The Goodbeasts tend to be a bit smaller overall than the Vermin(with the obvious exception of the badger!); it's just that mice and moles are smaller than foxes and wildcats, really, and we were trying to maintain a balance in the sizes.

Just out of curiosity, will there be 'rank and file' figures?
I'm not sure - the rules are for a individual-figure skirmish game, rather than units (and will finally be finished this week...) so it's a bit difficult to add 'unit' style figures. But once I've got a few more characters done, I might get around to it.

Kordin III temple, a neolithic temple here in Malta, we're digging trenches around it to verify the extent and see whether we can find any material from the temple builders' period, in this particular case 3700BC.

My stuff arrived last week. I just wanted the scenery so I pledged for a single miniature. I regret this since the miniature I got is really nice. All the scenery is extremely nice too, I can't wait to paint that pile of weapons! BTW I brushed some of the pieces with dishwashing soap and they're still a pain to coat.

I didn't notice this little guy when I first looked through the box's contents. I don't remember if he's part of the scenery or a Kickstarter freebie, but I found him so funny I decided to give him his own base:

I'm not entirely certain yet - I need to re-organise the webshop first. It's on the job list, but there's about 7 jobs in front...

More anthro animals next - so far, it's a mix of more of the types we've done, mice, foxes etc. plus some 'foreign' types; platypus, armadillo, that sort of thing. And some new stuff like dogs and otters.

I'd like to get some of my 14th century medieval stuff moulded as well, but it'll have to be anthro animals for a while yet!

Some very scruffy, rag tag characters suitable for brigands, baddies, etc would be nice.

Well, I've got a few rough looking types planned as well; and hopefully some generic weasel guards; and I really want to do a bunch of greatsword-weilding landsknecht types as well. So much to do, and so little time...

And most of my time lately has gone on sorting out the alpha test version of the Burrows and Badgers skirmish rules, which are finally done! They are very much alpha though - I haven't even playtested them once in this form yet, so expect some rough edges...

You can download them here: https://www.mediafire.com/?dsp4m2m441qi630 (https://www.mediafire.com/?dsp4m2m441qi630)
