Post by: Gunner Dunbar on April 14, 2015, 07:29:09 AM
Hi guys

Finished a 20mm AB Red Devils commission, wow these are nice figs, even better than the excellent AB Fallschirmjager set, I have these in my own stash, looking forward to doing them again at some point.

Hi Guys

Just finished up this largish commission for a 20mm British Airborne force, figs are mostly FAA with some ABs, most of the jeep riders are AB, the FAA figs are nice (I have some of their Romanians) but they are a step behind the superb ABs, 4 of the jeeps are the new Airfix airborne jeeps, which I made up and added stowage to, the others are metal (not sure who makes them) the airfix jeeps are excellent, though they could have added more stowage in the set, as this was common on the real jeeps. I cut most of mine from old plastic Italeri British infantry and added some resin boxes.
The guns can be removed from their bases, all in all pretty happy with how this force turned out, all C&C welcome.

Hi guys

Have put this platoon plus sized force of late war Germans together for a customer out of my stash, they are a bit of a mix of AB, TQD, CP, PSC and some other plastics, there are 3 x 10 man sections, a 5 man HMG, a mortar team, a couple of sniper, and panzershrek teams, an FO team and a mix of HQ types, pretty happy with how they turned out, if you are interested in something similar, let me know, all comments welcome.

Hi guys

Finished these on commission for a long time customer, he unexpectedly sent me a parcel of yummy chocolates from Canada recently, so I decided to return the favour by gifting him this JS-1 to go along with his infantry, I built it many years ago, I believe it was an Italeri kit, I detailed a couple of areas with wire, all comments welcome.

Hi guys

This is the organising part of a 1/72 WWII winter US commission, figures used are TQD (metal), Italeri US winter (sand), Italeri US (green), PSC US heavy weapons (grey), a couple of Italeri US Paras and a couple of Italeri Brits.
I have done some basic pose and head conversions to minimise the same poses, I will further modify them by winterising the none winter troops.
The force is for chain of command and will be the opposing force for these Winter Germans
http://gunnerswargamming.blogspot.com.au/2015/04/tdqs-kharkov-ss.html (http://gunnerswargamming.blogspot.com.au/2015/04/tdqs-kharkov-ss.html)
Also making a 5 man bailed tank crew, just for the fun of it.
The TQD figures are a little larger than the plastics, however not overly so, and they all mix together pretty well, and I will be bulking the plastics out a bit when I winterise them.
Should get these on the painting desk in a week or so, all comments welcome.

Hi guys

This 1/72nd Winter US commission is nearly ready for painting, I have tried to keep copies of poses to a minimum, have added 2 x 6 man ATG crews, these were made up of a mix of PSC US heavy weapons and Russian ATG crews, this force has quite a mix of figures, US infantry and paras, Brits, and Russians, but they will all look like Yanks once painted. All comments welcome.

Hi guys

Winter US finished on commission, most of the greatcoat figs are TQD metals, lovely, but large, the plastics are all converted, and are a mix of a couple of Italeri sets (winter and summer uniforms) PSC US heavy weapons and some PSC Russian anti tank gunners, I think this force turned out nice and will ask the owner to post some pics of this force once based. 2 1/72nd Dragon West Europe SAS jeeps finished on commission, crew are converted PSC and Hat tank rider figs, difficult build with the gun pods having 11 parts each, the gun pods are just blu taced in for now, these were very expensive kits, I could have bought 4 of Airfixs excellent Jeep, 6 pdr mountain gun and trail for the same price.

What a wonderful collection of beautifully painted models.

Curiosity question: How compatible are the TQD & AB ranges size wise?

I think it depends on the range, for instance ABs fallschimjagers are pretty small, but there late war Germans are bigger, TDQ are a pretty large range, I have put AB and TDQ together on a command base and they went well together.

Hi Guys

The first elements of my 1/72 winter Fallschirmjagers finished, here we have an assault pioneer section, a sniper team, a Panzerschreck team and a BMW and side car, not sure about the MG on the sidecar, thinking of replacing it, please let me know what you think, more work needed on these? or are they good to go?

Hi guys

This is the 2nd section finished, and a look at my French platoon with some assets, still need to add some Green stuff details, they are a mix Caesar, Pegasus, Hat (WWI French) and Airfix, the mortar and crew are converted Germans I still need to lower the trousers to hide the jackboots, I have 2 platoon commander figs, I'm not sure which I like best, which would you pick, the brown Pegasus or grey Caesar?

I like the Caesar figure best, but both are good. I will watch this one with interest, as I have just done a French platoon for CoC in 28mm. The 1/72 Trumpeter Char B1 Bis is a very nice model as well.

Hi guys

Someone has asked me for a step by step for these models, so here we go, will give the steps so far, then do another in a few more steps.

1) Spray a dark grey base coat, Humbrol Pz grey with some black.
2) Mid grey sprayed, aiming for all the centres of panels, this leaves a nice shaded look.
4) Chipping added using dark grey and the sponge technique, trying to not overdo this step.
5) gave 4 of the vehicles a blue filter, and the other 3 a khaki filter.
6) paint the rubber wheels black, tracks and tools vellajo leather brown, you could use chocolate brown, but theres a little more red in the leather brown, which feels right to me.
7) a coat of gloss varnish.
8) add decals.
9) black pin wash.

Hi guys

Part 3 of the group build, previous steps taken.
8 )add decals.
9) black pin wash.

Latest steps

10) second brown pin wash, deliberately more messy then the black pin wash
11) Mat coat applied
12) light highlight dry brush

Hi guys

Part 4, this parts steps were

1) painting the tools, seats, rubber and other details.
2) silver added to tracks, sprocket teeth, idles and tools/tow ropes
3) black wash over metallic areas.
4) Oils streaking, done with white, dark brown and rust coloured oils, you have to be careful not to over do this step.

Hi guys

Early 1/72nd French CoC Platoon finished, as well as my converted crew for the German Type 40 car.

Pics are a little poor, very overcast here today, had to use a flash.

The French are a mixture of Pegasus, Caesar, and Hat WWI French, many converted, theres 3x12 man Rifle sections, and a mortar, HMG, FO, and sniper for supports, will make some engineers and AT guns, as well as adding armour and vehicles, I have bought a pre painted Char B1 bis (first time I have done this), which I will shade/highlight and weather using my usual techniques, its quite a nice model.

The German crew are converted from Hat tank rider bodies and AB heads, left over from my Gebirgsjagers project.
