Title: Best water effects for ships?
Post by: carlos13th on April 19, 2015, 07:39:07 PM
Hey guys

I ordered an Adake Bune Samurai ship and I am waiting for it to arrive. It comes with a base however and I would prefer to use water effects to make the base look a little better than just a flat base.

I was wondering what water effects would be best to achive this. If you have any tutorials that would be greatly appreciated.

Plastics companies sell textured lighting covers, and acrylic for shower doors.

They have several patterns that look like rippled, or wavy water, and it's pretty inexpensive too.

For what it is worth, I only do water effects on 1/3000 and 1/600 stuff. For the bigger ones, they tend to spend most of the time dead in the water so I feel water effects are not really needed. And look damned odd on a anchored boat. But it is easy, using a bit of cling film, to sculpt a bow wave against the boat that is removable, as well as a textured plasticcard wake using the Vallejo water effects stuff I use for 1/3000 and 1/600 as well. I grind off the bow wave off my 15mm/20mm ships because of that. Now actually finishing one however.... :)
