ps where in France are you?Grenoble ^^
Thanks guys
Grenoble ^^
Wonderful to see them all over here too.Time for you to sell them Iron Claws to me I reckon :D
Gorgeous paintwork and well worth seeing again...and again...etc.
:-* :-*
Time for you to sell them Iron Claws to me I reckon :D
Those Iron claw models are indeed wonderful models (the level of detail is just mind blowing really) and such a treat to paint (as all the Bob Olley models I've painted so far). I'll have more to show in a near future ;). For now, let's talk about vertically challenged abhumans AKA squats.
c'est de la peinture de pro ! félicitations, la famille Orc est terrible lolMerci mais c'est surtout les photos qui sont flatteuses ^^'
Phew! I read the thread title and thought it must be another thread about Tony Reidy and Defiance Games.
Nice work btw!
lol lolIn all honesty, I hd to google that to understand but I guess the fear was justified ^^.
Great stuff in this thread :)
Im looking forward to the day that "Douchebag" Roses gets his cleavage signed by Steev Tylork lol
Gorgeous paintwork.
:-* :-*
And the obvious predecessors to the Cawdor gangers.
Very cool, and pretty rare, miniatures.
8)
Well I know the trimotes don't really fit at first glance but I'm pretty sure with their style and the proper paint job, they'll be just perfect amongst the others (I'll have to prove that statement with paint though)
I don't know. There's something very fishy about those latest Space Dwarves of yours, Monsieur.... lol
I need to dig out a few oldies and then see if I can convert the Lady Captain/ Rogue Trader that I want, for thr RPG. :D
Thanks a lot people
Is there ? :D
Good thinkis you can mix old and new to get just the right vibe you want. Haven't had a look at the Roleplay yet, What's it worth with the original Rogue trader book in mind?
That one photo sums up everything I love about old school 40K.
Need a vehicle? Go make one out of trash and models parts. Jazz it up with some non-specific colorful markings and away you go.
Need some terrain? Grab a piece of felt, some lichen and some aquarium plants.
Will one tank and five guys be enough? Sure, why not.

You can learn all you want to know about the mental issues and hobby skills involved to do ... that ::) in the associated BLOGPOST (http://leadplague.blogspot.fr/2015/06/chaos-grav-attack.html).
Nice character and I partucularly like the background story for this guy.
Great bit of work there. The face reminds me of someone...
;)
I really don't think there's an 'over the top' in old school Rogue Trader. Loud colors, huge shoulder pads, studded leather and chains, all the while looking like a bad ass. Damn I miss the 80's.
Ha, nice! Really good arrangement of bits, there. Where do the arms come from?
Wow, so much brilliant stuff on display on that thread, which for some reason I've never come across before.Probably 2 of the easiest to paint thanks to the amount of weathering which helps hide all the errors ^^'
My favourites are the Octopus robot and the Sigmarine conversion even of it's difficult to choose among all the brilliant conversions.
I made them quite anonymous on purpose to represent the nameless caharcaters who will probably die first and be replaced fairly rapidly...
Good thing they're wearing red then ;)
Well if you look at "Space Roger and his Galactic farers" on page 1 you'll notice that I was heavily inspired byt these. I should probably have a Rogue trader in yellow to lead them to deat... to more exciting adventures I mean...
Thanks for the kind words ^^
What did you do with the fourth one?
I reckon the third is the most fitting for a Rogue Trader.
The others could of course be his combat gear and his 'disguise' head

This seems like a perfect take to me!
So proud to see your babies all grown up with lovely paintjobs! 😍
They've received a rather speedy paintjob due to the deadline so don't look at the pics from too close ;)
They are enormously dynamic, which is quite meritable given the minis (which I love). But you managed to do an awesome paintjob on them, specially using only black! I would need some more colours to define shapes and embossings, but you made them shine just as dark as they are! Congratulations!Agreed, those blacks are just lovely and still remain black rather than ending up as dark grey.
To keep the blacks dark I glaze with a strong black over a very bright grey on which I push contrasts to the max. It's a recipe I got from some pro painters and it works wonders !I can endorse this method. I came upon it by my own fumbling and can confirm it's a good method for dark leather or other similar material where you want strong black but good contrast.
Oh, I agree that painting squads and individuals is quite different!
I was more thinking a few highlights to bring out a little more of the lovley sculpted relief details - I certainly didn't mean to imply that they were poor in any way though.
I really liked the unreleased 2E Mechanicus models, and I think it's a pity that GW never released them along with a mini-list in WD or such (afterall, they did that with Chaos Cultists and Necrons just because they had the models made).
Oh my, I love everything about psycho Sam!
Was that a one off special for BOYL or will there be other methods of acquiring said awesome miniature?
Nice work JB! In particular, his jeans turned out great. I liked the line-up on your blog. I think there are a few more mohawk fellows in the copplestone/EM4 range, isn't there?Cheers, I tried to get a good result for the jeans and for once I m' quite satisfied with the result. There are indeed plenty more mohawks from the line but I just got those they had in stock when I placed the order ^^'
Nice work, sir.
:-*
Looks like Axiom is on to another winner.
AS for that Assassin, mine still has the pj from 15 years ago..... ::)
Good thing he has that tech-shovel with him for those outdoor adventures, just in case he runs into some nasty xenos :D
Don't you underestimate the carbon nanotube techno shovel, a simple tool that can act as a weapon, a frying pan and which can even help you dig earth to get thos plants out of the ground. ^^

RT botanist, what a great idea :DVery novel idea indeed.

Very novel idea indeed.
I can feel the Moebius vibe definately.
Do we know if the Colony 87 minis will ever be offered for regular sale in a shop? Can't tell since I'm only painting the models, You can ask Axiom on thi sforum who is the man behind the whole project and I suppose the question might arise in the future during the KS campaign.
I can't justify buying them now, but will eventually be thinking of doing some Sci-Fi/40k stuff in a small way.
Lovely colours and detailing on this collection.
Weird as hell - and wonderful!
Aw you guys always have something nice to say ^^'
I believe it's a Ral partha Sculpt from the mid/late 70's (possibly a Tom Meier IIRC)
I read through your link and couldn't find information on where the dragon came from... could you share what manufacturer it is from please?
'...an hour or so...' :'(
......can you spot who the new guy is?
Really beautiful work here Asslessman! Some of these conversions are also just inspired in how well they fit in with the old and old-alike models! :-*
Yeeeeeeeesssssss! Love him.Exactly 40 k went to far the opposite way,I prefer the rogue trader style fluff,in a frontier / medieval techno style.
Is it just me that loves Traders? I can't think of anything more inspiring than some sort of sci-fi caravan.
Yeah, that would be great - have you seen the newer version of the comic Prophet? There's an awesome caravan in the first issue, huge 'bugs' eat each others dung until a valuable resource emerges at the end of the chain:
I'd love to recreate something like that - I've got a 'Crusty' caravan I'm working on in 15mm, but sculpting all the baggage is sloooooow going. Anyway, sorry, I'm derailing.

EDDIE!!!
I don't suppose I have to explain to anyone here why the subject is so relevant now so I'll just say sometimes, brushes can drain a bit of frustration away... I've welcomed everyone to paint one of those, It'll get you a model painted and it might show to some we can accept differences that shouldn't matter.
Although, is it 'just' black? Any quick scrub of grey, or something, or are the highlights just natural reflection?
I know absolutely nothing abut Rogue Trader, but this is simply WONDERFUL stuff! Really beautiful work. RichardIt's alright ! Rogue Trader is the name of the very first edition of warhammer 40000 (which you might be more familiar with by name at least) and which was more strongly RPG oriented rather than the wargame it later became, hence my love for NPCs and exotic characters.
You can find the recipe for it IN THIS LINK (http://leadplague.blogspot.fr/2016/01/imperial-assassin-better-watch-out.html). ;)
I absolutely love everything you have posted...thank you.
They are perfectly acceptable. A painted miniature is always better than an unpainted one. I recently painted 40 of these bad boys rather more quickly than my normal painting style. I now have a lovely shambling mob of zombies.I completely sympathise with the idea. I love spending more time on characters but cannon (or should I say chainsaw) fodder need an appropriate care in my book.
Managed to take some pictures this evening. I've put them on my Mars Attacks thread.

Just looked on your blog awesome stuff, really like your venator gang.i first thought they were early Cawdor. They actually are, if you're intersted in such things I've written a little piece about their origins HERE (http://leadplague.blogspot.fr/2014/02/building-venators-journey-from.html). ;)
@ Mason : Indeed, this was very rewarding and I also have a desertic mat to make a sort of wasteland, I want to make a sort of colonial outpost, I'm likely to require settlers for the purpose ;) , things are coming along slowly but steadily !
Cheers guys !
@Mason, the last picture on the blog is the only one not from me ! lol
Did you clip the integral bases off or hide them under your basing material? They look lovely by the way. Those came out with slottas bars, I bought them recently from Forlorn Hopes, didn't know there were versions with integral bases. Cheers ;)
I know this is all pretty niche stuff and we might be a few bunch to like this stuff (metal combined with miniatures combined with stupid nerdy references I mean) but hey, life's not a rehearsal, so let's just play the fucking tunes we want to hear !

Loving these new updates 8) 8) 8)
I'm sorry if you posted the answer and I didn't see it- where are those undead astronauts from? They are awesome!Well I did mention it in the blogpost but since I'm such a nice guy I can say it right here : Macrocosm (http://www.macrocosm.co.uk/product/undead-astronauts/) ;)
Are you going to do a limo? :D
'course I am ^^
Cheers all, I'm quite satisfied by the result and i'll most likely add an old broken rhino to what I already have. A good ol' scrapyard has got to be a good thing for games right ? ^^Ooh ,scrap bandits, orks ,very dodgy scrap yard owner an henchman, nasty looking vicious guard beast ,maybe a rogue trader looking for info or wanted people. :-*
I have been toying with doing some orcs grey as rock orcs and you have confirmed they look good, thankyou.I've started these with a base colour that's closer to blue than green and have highlighted it with light grey progressively. I wanted to desaturate it rather than make it bright to keep a pale and sick look to the skin with still some orkish identity.
Man, you are on fire! :o
Man, do you even sleep? :oThis one was a 1h job at worst but the answer is "not much". ;)
This one was a 1h job at worst but the answer is "not much". ;)
Wonderful brush work on the two latest BBM additions! :-*
Didn't know about the existence of space pack mule (spamule?), great mini Mason!
Wonderful! :-*
What's your recipe for the black armour?
Cheers ! I've wrote a tutorial for the black armour here (http://leadplague.blogspot.fr/2016/01/imperial-assassin-better-watch-out.html). After that I just weathered the armour with juices of leather brown paint thinned to the max till the point where you can see pigments seperating , take a brush and don't load it too much and apply this juice in the recesses and around rivets. You can repeat the operation with increasing light colours (cadmium red or even orange) until you're happy with it, it's quick and easy and provides a good alternative to dry pigments.
Cheers for the link, will try it myself.
And that bodyguard is more wicked than the Inquisitor herself! 8)
A very nicely-restrained take on the topic, as you say. The red and black contrast works very well, especially with the weathering, but I do feel that the sonic blaster lacks a tiny Roman numeral "XI" close to that lever... ;)
Well those look fantastic. 'Speed painting' you say!
Is Space Fleet fun? I have a sealed box. I loved BFG but I hear they are very different games.
Nahhh, horrible painting :o...you should throw them into the trash or send them to me :PGiven how they look and the parts used, I reckon Astra Militarum, Admech or Hybrids would fit. :)
I wish I could do conversions and paint like you lol. The Slaughterpriest is just genius, beautiful work all around. What stats are you going to use for them on SW:A?
...The standard of painting on those is honestly pretty low...
Excellent!
There are some great bits in that new set and it is good to see that you have added some colour other than just 'metallic this n that' in there.
8) 8)
Those look brilliant. I've got to finish my SW:A terrain up from the boxed set. Then I have the servo haulers to do. I did mine in a green colour too.
These look great. Are they representing the fleet of the Rogue Trader? or an Imperial Navy fleet?
I suppose it would be a Navy fleet given the common marking and colour but wjo knows, no much thought went into the backstory here if I'm honest !
The other fleet will be simple as well to make things easier in game and give a feeling of number. The civilian ships will be more varied I reckon.
Thanks all !
Asslessman those navigators look the ducks nuts lad 8)This like the dog's bullocks? (Did I spell that right?)
Cheers
Matt
Really cool, I love your Bratt gang. Inspirational.
I may have missed it, are you using an established list or a home brew for the gang? Shadow War is pretty limited when it comes to kill team list options.
"Great work. You and the other chap who has painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling rule Renaissance Italy."
-Scurv, 1515
(Great painting Asslessman.)
great work. You and the other chap who has the rouge trader thread rule 40k minis

Oh, now those are superb...yes please!
As ever, some very inspiring work, thank-you for posting; I wish I had your flair for conversion ideas.
Edit: I've found the Objective bits on eBay, I may have to shamelessly copy your concept.
To see this done to such a high standard, then to follow the links and see them in action on some mind blowing terrain... I almost passed out!
Thank you sir!
Can you share what paints you use to create that greyish skin tone on many of your works? (e.g. Helmawr gang, Colony 87, etc.)
I'd love to try something similar... or copy you in other words.
I'm using bronzed flesh from the game colour range as a base with a wash of diluted agrax earthshade and then highlight with the base colour with added Ushabti bone. I'm changoing the recipe now though as this one was developped with bleached bone. Ushabti has a strongly more yellow hue which I'm getting tired of so i'll probably work on something from cadian flesh now.
While we're here, let me show you some scenery I've just finished painting !
Thanks for the tip - I would never have guessed these colours.
I've tried the same experiment using limited paints, sometimes I deliberately don't use black because it's such an easy colour to go to for a quick result.
Your eldar looks great ! The subdued orange looks very natural and contrasts well with the turquoise. He has a suitably wraith-like appearance for a harlequin.
Oooohhh! That’s a cracking beastie! 8)
Lovely job, and the mega-frog is fantastic too. Here's a question - what's your 'black' recipe? It's really effective here, gives a nice base for all the other detailing to jump out of.Thanks ! The black is black wash over a zenithal priming basically. I've written a tutorial about it HERE (http://leadplague.blogspot.fr/2016/01/imperial-assassin-better-watch-out.html).
I can't imagine a more suitable colour scheme, and the tones seem perfect, as always.
I always thought there is something cool about a gang having an icon or two to wave about too, so Redwart is a particularly nice addition in many ways - great!
Lovely paintjobs and a stunning colour scheme. :-* I'd give my right arm to paint this good (although it would then be hard to paint without my arm!)
The new necromunda has got me hot for some more underhive action so as a form of foreplay
Wonder what the wife will think of that... ;D
Wonder what the wife will think of that... ;D
This smoking squat is totally politically incorrect; loved it! lol
you've managed to turn my 5 minute break from editing a cookbook into a three hour nostalgia fest, including visits to your blog, google image searches and more than a few hopeless searches on ebay. Fantastic minis all round :-*
I'd highly recommend playing 2nd ed. Space Marine if you ever get the chance (using only the Armies/Warlords/Renegades expansions) - my favourite GW game by a long way. That iteration of the game goes downhill faster than the speed of light once Titan Legions shows up, but if you stick to the original armies it is great, great fun.
Love the Warlord! Outstanding work as usual.

The sculpts are obviously not up to modern standards in terms of details but they do have a great charm I still cannot resist.
You made some clever decisions here, I really like how it all turned out. I pity the poor Nurglings, making taxi services for whoever goes by!Now I have a vision of a Nurgling cab rank :D
I have a penchant for an amphibious alien or two myself, so am really glad that you painted these up.

Love him :-*
You are not the only one who loves those models, and you have done a cracking job on them!

Man, I love all of those old Epic Knights, and your paint jobs are great as always :-*The wardens are quite fun and like for the others there's always the odd one in the group (in this case the tracked one with belly cannon)
My personal favorite has always been theFatmanWarden, so I'm looking forward to your next installment... :)
But your models are making me all fuzzy and warm again... ;)
