Title: Don's Crusades
Post by: DonVoss on May 23, 2015, 08:43:10 PM
I got hold of two boxes of crusader knights from Fireforge and wanted to initially some Game of Thrones stuff. But then I though: why not doing crusades stuff anyway...:D

Again small bands for use with "Song of Blades...".
I wanted to do a retinue of a poor knight with some fellow pilgrims. And I wanted the feeling of a journey, so 3 man have rucksacks and stuff modelled on their back.....

The retinue is a wild mix of perry, gripping beast, warlord and fireforge models.

And a close up of the freehand shields... :)

Needing a few muslims now... ;)

Cheers,
Don

Brilliant! :-* Great concept, excellent painting and a believable, evocative mix of minis. Just looking at them you start wondering about the stories each of them could tell around the campfire...

I'm looking forward to seeing how this project develops.  :)

Excellent painting (especially that chap on the left with the au naturel shield  :o ). Your green-stuffing is fantastic and really adds to the flavour of the minis. Looking forward to the Muslims now.

Thanx for your encouriging comments... :)

I needed a while to think off what to do for the muslims side. Until I came across the story of the Old Man from the Mountain.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rashid_ad-Din_Sinan

I found a great figure on donkey in the perry crusaders range and just snipped of the cross... :o
So the retinue consists of a dubius old man, 2 assassins, a noble muslim and his fellow warriors, somehow devotetd to the cause of the old man... ;)

The Gripping Beast plastic models are a bit too big for the perrys, but I think on the table it wont a big deal.

Don

Okay, I shoukld have stayed in the desert, but I am a butterfly type of painter...:)

So I get some teutonic knights ready. Again for "Song of..."

Shileds are agin hand painted, too dumb for decals....

There is very expensive snow on the bases, wich you cant see... :D
Costed me a little more then kokain at battlefield berlin.

Cheers,
Don

Costed me a little more then kokain at battlefield berlin.

But it saves you from random passersby snorting your bases while gaming, I hope? :P

Again, excellent, atmospheric painting on these Teutons. I love seeing your warbands.  :-*

Great models and paint jobs.thanks for sharing. I rocognise most of the teutonics as fireforge plastics but what model is the hooded figure?

Thanks
Tom

Very good concept and nice painting

May be inspiring enough for me to dust off my fireforge figures and do something with them.

...hooded figure?

I can't recall really. I think it is from "Hobby Production" or so, a german manufakturer. I bought it in the early 90s for RPG...:)

Today I have just a few WIPs for my pagans...
Lots of greenstuff and some glue.

The leader of the band is still missing, because he is in the acid bath to strip the paint of...:)

Don

Okay, a busy week, but I managed to paint up the pagans.
I added a vodka drinking warrior and tried to iprove the basing (not quite finished). One or two figures need a little bit more highlighting, but you get the direction...;)

Next on the working table are a few desert bits... :)

Hi Don,
this time on this platform:
DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING with the minis. They are perfect with their subdued colors.
