As many before me, I'm planning to create some small forces of cobras and gi joes for my miniature games.
I will use pulp alley rules, so I will create some pulp alley leagues.
I'm lucky, because I've yet read many old topics about the miniatures or conversions to create a nice force of cobras and gijoes.
Then I will use almost all of these precious suggestions ;)
I yet painted the Cobra Commander miniature from East Riding Miniatures, he will be the leader of course:
As a sidekick I was thinking about the Baroness or Storm Shadow from Reaper Miniatures, still not sure who choice:
however not still convinced about this model. There are some alternatives?
I would like more the RAFM ninja for storm shadow, but it's easier to buy the reaper ninja (No european distributors for RAFM)
maybe major bludd too, but I don'yt know where find a miniature fine for him.
I'm thinking to buy the Victory Force N.E.W. War wehrwolves for my cobra troopers (two squads should be fine):
There is a UK or european shop that sell these miniatures?
Crimson Guards, I'm planning to create two as allies.
Many suggested the victoria lamb torsos, I must only find a nice head for them, here what I'm looking:
Heads:
Maybe there is a better option too?
Torsos, Legs and arms from Victoria Miniatures

arms with gun, I yet have these two.
The G.I. Joes
I will begin with just a small team.
I was thinking about snake eyes and timber, and maybe scarlett too.
snake Eyes from Reaper Miniatures
(https://www.reapermini.com/graphics/gallery/4/50082_w_1.jpg)
Timber (one of this wolves from North Star)
Scarlett from Reaper Miniatures?
I want to finish these leagues before the Vinadio Comics event that will be in 25-26 of July.
I should do some pulp alley demos in the Games Area, so I'm thinking to use the Cobra and Gi Joe leagues and wear my Cobra Commander costume while I'm there too (It's a cosplay event too, after all) ;)
I will use the cobra league while wearing the cobra commander costume, while the other player will use the gi joe league, or maybe I will be the military advisor of the cobra player (if there are two players that want to try the game) ;)

ME as COBRA Commander
(http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110324043606/villains/images/b/ba/Cobra_commander.jpg)
Hail COBRA! :D
-
AWE-sum! :) I like these ideas!
The mini you picked as possible for Baroness - I'm painting one now as a "Not-Black Widow/not SHIELD Agent". She's sexy, but without the spectacles I'm not sure she'll "read" as the Baroness. Perhaps if you find a head with spectacles, and swap? If I see anything, I'll post a link.
I like those heads as Siegies, and the torsos are near-perfect. They remind me of the Siegies from "GI Joe vs. Cobra" from the late 90s-early noughts. That other Reaper female makes a nice Scarlett. :)
Cosplay as well? XD AWE-sum. I'd like to cosplay as Lady Jaye someday.
-
May I suggest something from the Statuesque Miniatures range for your Cobra sidekick if you're not sure about the reaper one.

May I suggest something from the Statuesque Miniatures range for your Cobra sidekick if you're not sure about the reaper one.
I've not found a miniature that could be nice as a cobra sidekick in their website, but this miniature seem perfect for scarlet (but she has not the crossbow):
However I read that the miniature is out of stock.
-
Great idea for a Pulp Alley league! I can't wait to see how this goes. :-* :-*
-
CO-BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
-
I think this could be a good base fo a major bludd miniatures, I just need to add an helmet, mustache and cut the medals:
-
This looks like a great project.
Maybe you could use some Crooked Dice commandos to make some Action Force characters to support your Joe team.
-
You could turn that rifle into a crossbow easy file away the rear mag and remove the forward barrel. Drill a hole through the front part and then thread a piece of wire through. Curve or turn the end into circles job done :)
As for ordering from Victory Force $36 is such a small amount and parcel I doubt you'd get picked up by customs the limit is £15 of goods and that comes in around £24 I've ordered from Khurasan plenty of time and had no problems.
Alternatively what about the Westwind SOTR Mechgrenadiers.
http://www.westwindproductions.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=126_144_146&products_id=1376
I think you could use the separate soviet gasmask heads instead and trim the bottom of the mask and file its smooth or putty over it to get your trooper masks.
http://www.westwindproductions.co.uk/catalog/index.php?cPath=126_149
-
I read that the international shipping is 25$, a little too much for just 10 miniatures with a value of 36$ (without considering that the cursed custom office include the shipping cost in the final value), especially now that the change Euro-$ is not so good as in the past :'(
Seem that Victory Force is trying to sell its moulds, website etc too. :-X
or I must find a nice alternative for cobra troopers... for now I've seen some crusader germans with MP40, but I'm not sure about them.
The WW mechgrenadiers are really nice, but they have an uniform and armor that it's not typical of the classic cobra trooper :(
meanwhile, I've found this North Star Project X miniature that could be a fine base for a major bludd:
-
Careful though, project X minis are a larger scale, at 35-40mm.
-

I didn't know, thanks for the information.
-
Great stuff!
This is a really cool project, mate! Can't wait to see that stuff painted!
-
Maybe I've find a temporary solution. I need some cobra troopers for the Pulp Alley demo games I'm planning at Vinadio Comics in 25-26 July.
Then for now I could just paint some Void VASA Marines I yet have as cobra troopers:
I'm looking at them, and they seem have similarities with the cobra troopers from the cartoon ;)
Maybe just changing the heads (or jut try some easy conversions on the helmet) and add some "braces" with green stuff ;)
so I could have some nice, cheap (because I've yet them) cobra troopers soon and meanwhile find a better choice :D
-
While I was looking on my Vasa marines, I've found this:
the guy in the right
Some legs and he could be a nice Copperhead :D
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/24/Copperhead5649.jpg)
-
Well, today I've finished to paint Snake Eyes and Timber, the G.I. Joe team I will use as antagonist of the Cobra Command. (click over the picture to a full good view)
I painted the duo with the sunbow paint scheme. I updated the picture of my painted Cobra Commander above, in the first message of the topic, the old one was darker while my painted CC is colourful (maybe Should I add more highlighs to the blue of the uniform or he is good enough yet?). I've modified and primed 5 cobra troopers and soon they will be painted too. Hail COBRA! :D
-
Great models, nice paint job. :-*
-
Very cool.
-
Here a Cobra Officer and a Cobra trooper. I will paint 3 more troopers for the first squad and then another one:
-
Those will do very nicely for the troopers!
-
I do love seeing GIJoe miniature stuff painted up. I have that figure queued to become my Snake-Eyes too, but it had not occurred to me to do up a Timber as well! Nicely done, and thanks for the reminder. :)
-
Great work so far! :-*
GI JOE/COBRA projects are always inspirational. Lots of great ideas here and in many other threads.
Keep up the great work.
-
Thanks, your topic about Gi Joe & Cobra was really inspirational too. ;)
I think I will do, as an ally, the Lieutenant Clay Moore using one of my Vasa Marines:
Just adding the german steel helmet head without mask ;)
-
Here the first cobra gang:
-
Really nice figures!
-
Then finally my almost finished pulp alley cobra league, I will include storm shadow and a cobra hiss tank too. COBRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
-
Fantastic!
-
Here the last addition to my Cobra Pulp alley League: Storm Shadow.
A simple conversion of the RAFM Ronin. He will be the sidekick of the leader: Cobra Commander.
-
Great conversion. He looks awesome! :-*
-
Fantastic work, Jinnai! :D I can't wait to see these guys in a Pulp Alley scenario.

I finally decided to paint the G.I. Joe COBRA miniatures I bought more than one year ago.
Here the first one: a COBRA Trooper with my yet old painted COBRA Commander.
I painted him using the classic paint scheme from the 1982 Action Figure Card.
-
DESTRO join the growing COBRA Forces.
Again, I painted DESTRO with a classic paint schem, from the 1983 Action Figure Card.
-
The Major Bludd join the COBRA Command Group. :)
-
Lovely brushwork! 8)
-
Thanks :)
A COBRA Officer for lead my cobra grunts.
The rank on the helmet is barely recognizable, maybe I will include more highlights for the final version.
As usual I copied the paint scheme of the original Action figure cover card.
-
Whoa, these are amazing!
I love what you have done, with and I can't wait to see what you do with all of them!
One question, where in the world did you get those cobra grunt and officer miniatures?
-
Thanks :)
-
The first team of cobra troopers (with officer) is ready to shoot to the hateful G.I. Joes. :D
I will paint another team and the COBRA League will be completed... for now ;)
I still have 5 crimson guards, Tomax & Xamot and 5 B.A.T.s and many more will be purchased soon :)
-
A low ranking Officer with first aid suitcase for the second COBRA team and the first officer with some minor updates (rank insignia on collar and sleeves.)
-
The second team of cobra troopers (with low ranking officer) is ready.
Now my league of COBRA is complete. :D
-
Just awesome! Any plans for Zartan and the Dreadnaughts :D
-
Just awesome! Any plans for Zartan and the Dreadnaughts :D
Thanks :) At the moment there will be available the miniature of the sister of Zartan: Zarana, but I hope all the Dreadnoks will be available too, soon or later ;)
Actually I have, still unpainted, another version of COBRA Commander, Tomax & Xamot, 5 Crimson Guards and 5 B.A.T.S but I should receive more cobras and joes miniatures in the next months :D
-
Brilliant! Totally forgot about Tomax and Xamot lol can't wait to see them!
-
One question, where in the world did you get those cobra grunt and officer miniatures?
Indeed. Where do you get these wonderful toys?
-
Wow, amazing work on these! :-* :-*
-
Sergeant Duke is ready to fight the COBRA :D
-
Hot damn! That's a great Duke miniature. Well done.
-
These minis are red Hott...YO JOE!
-
Thanks :)
Scarlett join sergeant Duke in the fight against the COBRA :D
-
PERFECT!!! :-*
-
Excellent!
-
Thanks :)
Snake Eyes join the G.I. Joe team :)
-
Well done! ;)
-
That must be one of the best Snake Eyes minis I've seen!
What's the recipe?
-
That must be one of the best Snake Eyes minis I've seen!
What's the recipe?
Thanks :)
The recipe is simple, nothing of special, I use only citadel colors:. black mixed with grey for the highlights on the clothes, black mixed with shadow grey for the belt, boots and accessories and black mixed with ultramarine blue for the goggles, about 5-6 or maybe more highlights for each color and for finish some little washes of nuln oil.
Next I will paint a gang of 5 gi joe greenshirt soldiers and then the league will be complete.
Then I think I will paint another gang of 5 COBRA Troopers and Scarface.
-
I think that by "recipe" it was meant what minis were used/the conversions you did! :D
-
Some greenshirts join the G.I. Joe team. I used the cartoon paint scheme for the female soldier and a trooper, while the guy with the bazooka has the "Zap" paint scheme and the last two troopers the "Grunt" paint schemes (version 1 & 2).
-
Different paint schemes from different sources, wow you've done your homework. Great stuff.
-
Fantastic work! :-*
-
Thanks :)
An infamous COBRA Officer from the first numbers of the G.I. Joe comic books: Scar-Face.
-
Yes, that's him allright! 8)
-
I painted 5 more COBRA Troopers. This time I had two characters ispired from the sunbow cartoon: LT. Clay Moore and COBRA Female Trooper, then I chose to paint all the troopers with a brighter blue and with the hands and neck visible (as the COBRA cartoon version).
-
They look fantastic!
-
Thanks :)
I painted Flint, with his classic paint scheme from the carded action figure:
-
Lady Jaye join Flint. I painted her with the sunbow cartoon paint scheme.
I will use Lady Jaye and Flint as a duo league in pulp alley.
-
I painted Tomax & Xamot, nice models but their smile seem a little weird :D
-
Wow okay, they're creepy. lol
-
The first Crimson Guard of a squad of five.
-
Awesome!
-
Fantastic! Great project.
-
Thanks :)
The squad of 5 Crimson Guards is complete. They join the Crimson Twins.
-
Finally I found a friend that could print in 3d a 28mm scale MOBAT tank for a fair price (14 euro, and no shipping cost).
Then I tried to clean most of the unpleasant printing lines with sandpaper for a smoother surface.
The wheels and interior of the tracks were still too rough, then I decided to paint them with black, hoping to hide most of the roughness.
I had not some gi joe decals, then I tried to print some copies of the original stickers and then repaint them. The final job is quite good.
I'm planning to use it in my Pulp Alley G.I. Joe leagues:
MOBAT Tank (10pt)
Armor 2 Size 3 Reliability d10 Passegers 4
Vehicle (Enclosed, Md. Armor, Md. Gun, Lt. Gun)
Medium Gun (Turret, Rapid fire, Advanced, Piercing)
Light Gun (Turret, Advanced)
More (Glacis, Reinforced, Lumbering)

Even if I don't have any connection to GI Joe, I really like this project.
I'm very impressed with your work!
-
Great work! Where can I find these miniatures?
-
Thanks :)
I've sent a PM with informations about the miniatures.
Great work! Where can I find these miniatures?

Absolutely fantastic.
With Hasbro owning Wizards of the Coast, I'm surprised that there's still no official miniature line yet.
Well done indeed.

Awesome thread!

Thanks :D

She's one of my favorites from back in the day :)

Sorry for being late in on the conversation: I assume these are all conversions? Stunning work!

Thanks, just the old first miniatures from the topic are conversions (but not the Cobra commander, available from East Riding miniatures), later I found and bought metal miniature ispired by the gi joes ;)

I painted Storm Shadow for my COBRA force:

Even more fantastic!
-
I actually had a Firefly action figure, Amazing work!
-
I appreciate that whoever did that original illustration actually knew what real tools look like. lol
-
THIS! IS! AWESOME!
I had so many of these action figures growing up. It is great to see them in Miniature form. I would love to see a Battle Report with these guys.
You need a B.A.T.! (Battle Android Trooper)
Edit: I found the battle report further down! Sweet!

I have the BATs and the Cobra Vipers too, and many more gi joe and cobra that need their paint job ;)

I included another trooper and officer in my two groups of COBRA Troopers, then here the pictures of them, a total of 12 blueshirts.

Friggin' awesome. If you want to stay true to the show, then any rules have to involve no one dying.
-
Very much so - amazing work for a fun and characterful project!
-
Love 'em!!! :)
-
Thanks :)
I commissioned a 3d printed Super-Sized Hiss Tank that I will consider the Cobra Commander's "Hiss Command Tank Mk-0". It will be the personal tank of Cobra Commander and will include a driver and co-driver and 5 passeggers. I was considering to paint some silver cobra symbols and numbers (001 on both sides), but for now I will not include them, because I'm afraid to ruin the paint scheme and because in the picture from the cartoon the tank has not symbols.
A picture of the "Super Sized" tank from episode 15 "Haul Down the Heavens". I know well that the cartoon often don't care for size, scale comparison or logic (or maybe just some animation errors). I just took the excuse of this picture of an apparently super sized hiss tank with the side sliding door to have the opportunity to justify a command hiss tank. 😉

I did some minor modifications. I've included a door with loophole and some details to the tracks.
Here some pictures of the unpainted hiss tank (and without modifications). It is approximately the size of the mobat, but much higher.

I am not familiar with GI Joe but I thinks the bigger tank looks a lot better than the toy size HISS
great project :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
I love all the obscure references to the old cartoon. Good show.
-
Thanks :)
I painted the RAM [Rapid Fire Motorcycle] for my joes.
I did the beard to the driver with the green matter. Then he seem Rock n Roll.

I use to have a bunch of these guys (but never scarlet :() I had this motorcycle too, but I did not know what it was called!
Kudos and thanks!

Thanks :)
I painted Gung-Ho and Rock n' Roll for my gi joe team.

The one on the RAM looks like the original version of Rock-N-Roll, while the other is a later version. The first one was basically Grunt with a blonde beard, a cross belt of ammo, and an M-60. :)
-
Fantastic.
I really love these figures.
-
Thanks :)
I painted Cover Girl, with the sunbow cartoon paint scheme from the first mini-serie.

No, but the Wolverine will be one of the vehicles I could plan to commission the 3d print soon or later ;)

Fantastic brushwork on some fine minis! :-*

Thanks :)
Here a simple conversion I've done of the Cobra Commander.
The original miniature had an hood and an open hand. I included the visor face helmet and a cobra scepter.

The guns in those last two illustrations are just so perfectly GI Joe ridiculous.
Yes, but their weapons are pulp ;)
Here I painted Roadblock.
Now I will do a short pause from painting gi joes miniature (but I could paint three more vehicles) and start to paint my.... TRANSFORMERS miniatures 😀

Thanks :)
For the pants of roadblock I used the citadel vomit browm as a base, then several highlights of vomit brown mixed with white and some washed of citadel agrax earthshade.
-
What?
Great result!
-
Shipwreck gets Polly, but Spirit doesn't get Freedom? I object!
I so want to get a bunch of these, but I know I could not paint them nearly as well as you.
-
I painted Zartan. Soon the other 3 Dreadnoks will be painted too. ;)

Are you custom building these miniatures or are they available for purchase. I notice you originally modified models, but I haven't been clear since those early days. I'd love to purchase some of these myself, if they were available.

The other miniatures I painted are from a limited edition done in a private commission. Some should be still available. I will give the contact in a private message.

Much appreciated!
-
A group shot of my COBRA & G.I. Joe forces. I should paint another HISS tank, 5 more cobra troopers, and Crimson Guard SENTRY tank for Cobra, a VAMP and Armadillo for G.I. Joes.

They look great all gathered together... :o

Agreed, that is too cool. Man I loved GI Joe back in the day, I have a nearly full run of the 80s/90s comics. You're making me want to get these minis :)

Thanks :) Wizkids should do some gi joe miniatures soon or later, maybe they could be quite good (the Wizkids Transformers are nice). At least, I hope they will do some nice vehicles.
However you could buy the Footsore Miniatures (they should do soon the Cobra Eels, Snow Serpent, Tele Viper, Winter Cobra Soldiers and some Winter Gi Joes too) and maybe some of the other gi joe miniatures are still available from the private seller (more informations by PM).
-
Pretty sure I read something the end of last year showing a GI Joe release happening at the end of this year. Or sometime 4th quarter.
But I cant recall where I seen it at this time.

Finally I decided to convert and paint my G.I. Joe V.A.M.P. (Vehicle: Attack: Multi Purpose), using the metal kit with driver, passeger and gun.
The model of the VAMP is an old gi joe toy in small scale I bought on ebay. The final result is not bad, quite good. ;)

Great thread!

Ispired by somebody that wrote about my gi joe group shots: "Just like one of those old advertising posters!"

As one who spent many MANY hours looking at these little leaflets, I say bravo, sir. BRA-VO!

Ahahahaha that's perfect.

Ah, the memories! Nice one!

All these miniatures are metal miniatures done most from a private commission and the dreadnoks from Footsore Miniatures.

Thanks...guessing that commission is done now?

After a long break painting Warzone miniatures I did some few changes in my G.I. Joe cobra trooper's squads. I painted 3 more variants of cobra troopers for the "elite" squad and partially repainted three of the old ones as regular soldiers, then now I will have 3 squads of cobra troopers and one of "elite" troopers. Here the pictures of the updateds squads:

Awesome work - really terrific thread!

Thanks :)
I did some minor changes to some yet painted miniatures.
I just added some few more highlights (one or two) to my Crimson Guards and their Commanders, to give them a brighter look.

Man, they need the shields too! An easy kit bash though.

I know those miniatures, but I would like some of the helms were open and more similar to the original look.

Furthermore I'm looking to paint just the classic 1982-86 five series of the gi joes, I do not like too much the later series, but I admit that the alley vipers were one of the few
exceptions.

I know it comes with at least one.

Alley Viper was one of my favorites. In fact I think he was the last action figure I bought before I 'grew out of them'.

Maybe I will buy it in my next order to Footsore Miniatures. ;)
Meanwhile I could play a scenario where Santa Claus is kidnapped by cobra and the joes must save him and then save christmas :D

Fantastic job on Snake-Eyes. Just like his card art and the purple really brings back memories of the cartoon as well.

Thanks :)

For now I'm planning to paint some more of my Grenadier Star Wars miniatures, then I took a break from my G.I. Joe painting, but soon or later I could paint something more... I still have several miniatures (eels, cobra vipers, serpentor, iron grenadiers, more joes, vehicles etc etc) ;)
-
Oh man would love to see the Cobra Eels.
