It's on like donkey kong! lol

Oh wow, Richard! :o

"My Family ....". I hope the old harridan with the dugs hanging down to her kneecaps is not meant to be your representation of your wife. If it is and she finds out you are in deep, deep sh*t.
-
Oh, what a lovely choice. Now, Captain, I do have to ask - which figure represents BRIAN BLESSED, the shaman or the bear? ;)
Yes, I'm a bit of a boor in referring to the BBC series rather than the book, but I loved the show so much as a kid.

the actual matchpoints don't show the reality. I think, they are equally excellent.

What a great family, Captain! Superbly painted, I love them. Where's this "shabby" sabretooth cat from?
-
Thanks Michael :)
The sabretooth is from Reaper. Comes with a cave girl. I took years trying to get hold of it in the UK, mainly for the girl - who interestingly, I have never painted! But now the big cat will come in useful for my cave wars game... >:D

Often the case in the LPL sadly. The soemtimes huge difference in votes between entries is rarely a reflection of any great difference in quality of paintwork :?

I'm sorry, Chris. I think this must be a TV show I never saw? ???

lol No, nothing like my wife I'm pleased to say ;)
The 'my family' is the family of the little boy - a passing reference to the late, great Gerald Durrell's brilliant memoir of his boyhood.

Errr... I was referring to the 1987 BBC version of "My family and other animals". BRIAN BLESSED played the role of Spiro. Good thing I flunked literature studies or I would have overinterpreted this one even more! lol

Captain, I think you were lucky to miss the TV show. The book was a joy to read and was my introduction to the writings of Gerald Durrell over 40 years ago and I still reread his "Bafut Beagles" etc with the same great enjoyment. The TV series I felt totally failed to convey the young Durrell's great love of nature. It's one redeeming feature was Hannah Gordon(as the mother), total miscasting but I just like Hannah Gordon. Brian Blessed did his usual "Thespian" hamming in his overloud (I'm a stage actor) voice and was unconvincing as a Greek Islander, even with the silly accent he cultivated for it.
-
This was a hard one. But now I am happy that I voted for the underdog.
-
Two excellent entries - really surprised at the voting though.

Well your cultural reference point was absolutely right Chris :)
I just don't recall that I ever saw the TV adaptation. Feel sure I would have remembered Brian Blessed playing a Greek...
But the book is delightfully charming and funny.

I was actually a bit disappointed not to find the Durrells in your entry - I read the 3 books about their life on Korfu when I was a Young adult, and read them loud to my eldest daughter who's just as crazy about animals as (the late) Gerald was. :)
-
Amazing figures, both!!! :-* :-* :-*
-
No one can say anything bad about BRIAN BLESSED (priase be upon his name)!
He's awesome!
Okay, yeah, maybe not. But I still love him. Watched Flash Gordon again yesterday. He's my favorite character in the movie. Or in Black Adder as the King. Good fun, what?
-
Is the bear in My Family a Reaper Dire Bear? ;D
-
No, it's a DeeZee cave bear.
-
Ah thank you. I shall grab one while visiting the UK.
