I give you Baron Rodolphe de Grunne de Hemricourt, Belgian air ace, who flew during the Spanish Civil War, the invasion of Belgium in 1940 and in the Royal Air Force during WWII.

He joined the Falangue as an infantryman but got wounded. In hospital they found out he was a qualified pilot and the rest is history.

He did the right thing in the end. flying against the Luftwaffe for the RAF.
There are some great aces in the SCW, and quite a few of the WW2 ones learnt the ropes there.
