Title: Flint & Feather Pre-release figs to be available at Historicon
Post by: Bob Murch on July 08, 2015, 07:06:46 AM
Please come by the Pulp Figures/Crucible Crush booth at Historicon to see the new Flint & Feather minis. 3 sets of 5 figs each will be available as a special pre-release, pre-kickstarter offer along with some select singles.

We will also be running demo games of Pulp Action Library's 'in development' set of Flint & Feather rules.

Below is the first set that will be on limited offer.

Dang...nice! I'll have to find someone heading that way to pick some up. What's the price...and does your site have pics of the other two sets?

Flint & Feather Warriors 3. I wish I had time to paint these lads before Historicon but its not going to happen. I'll get them into a production mould and run up instead.

I would actually be willing to subscribe to this range of figures  :D

Are the rules going to be historical or fantasy or a mix? Tribes versus tribes or tribes versus settlers or...?

Thanks Bob. Looking good!

The rules are for pre-contact to initial contact, tribe vs tribe. There will be mythological elements, monsters, Sorcerors, spirits though not so much in the D&D way, more Game Thronsey if that makes sense. Mythological elements have a part but aren't the primary focus.

These are really fantastically detailed sculpts.

 :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Are they actually modelled on a particular tribe or are they simply 'pulpy'?

Darrell.

:-* Good timing and am really excited to see these. The figures are wonderful! Just this week I was thinking about asking around what the heck was or wasn't happening with this range (and not for the first time). There were some pics circulated 10/2014 I believe and then nothing for 9 months, at least nothing my radar picked up! Not the best marketing campaign I've seen to drum up interest by any stretch!  lol But I was hooked enough to google around a few random times since, never finding anything more than those hits from 10/2014. Next time definitely consider keeping the conversation going and what it could do for your kickstarter in the long run! Am eagerly anticipating the figures, however. Few things capture my interest more than the 17th-18th century North American experience. Have listened through all 5 of volumes of Francis Parkman's The French and English in North America in the past year and am now listening through Montcalm and Wolfe a second time. Will be cool to be able to expand the historical experience on the gaming table back before the French and Indian war, and I also want these for an Oldhammer setting I scheme about where it's not the Old World, but rather the New. Don't normally do kickstarters but may consider backing given your reputation and experience Mr. Murch! Either way, I definitely intend to pick them up.  Demonstrated here is the difference between making a range that "does the job" representing this or that on the table and a range that captures the particular spark of life of the subject and helps us see more than our imagination was already adding to the tabletop of static figures.

All of the figures so far represent Iroquoian (which includes Huron and Neutral tribes) warriors of the pre-contact period. Due to the very limited first hand records of early contact, I'm using some conjecture, archeological references and a dash of later known costumes to cloth and arm the figures.

It's known that they wore wooden, and perhaps leather. armour and carried shields before the advent of firearms. I've given them more spears than one usually sees later because my personal research kept coming across significant numbers of flint and even copper spear heads. Copper was also used for knives and axe heads but was in lesser use by the time Europeans arrived perhaps due to the depletion of the sources.

Some of the archeological evidence shows considerable artistic skill, such as the enigmatic stone bird objects that have been found regularly in ancient settlement sites. I think it's safe to give these warriors some flair as warfare was as much about status and display as other more mundane reasons.

That's great news, Bob. I've initially thought it's going to be another FIW game and that would be not quite my cup of tea, to be honest. But now I'm highly interested in this and can't wait to see what are you going to do out of this lovely idea.

Rules sound fantastic. Love that you are working in some mythic elements--that will really make this special and not just French Indian war without French and English ;-)

Count me in!

Bob, thanks for the pics of the next set! And from the research I have done (and visiting numerous forts and other native American sites), your depictions are spot-on. These are amazing figures, and I'm truly sorry I won't be at Historicon to pick up a set. Otherwise, I'd be mooing in that cattle line of gamers backed up at the entrance of the dealer area when it first opens...!

Have a great show, and hope you sell a lot!

I hope retail...not everything has to be a kickstarter...

A leak in Santa's elf staff has informed me that I will be receiving a couple packs of these as a Christmas gift...can't wait to see them! And paint them up!!!

And just in time for me to use them as leader figures for the second phase of the playtest of the Beaver Wars in Ohio campaign systems for Song of Drums and Tomahawks...
