They used a MODEL :o :)

I'm glad they are doing things the old way and not just digital just that preview seemed better than all the prequels put together.
-
Ah. Oh. Ack. Oog. Wibble.
just that preview seemed better than all the prequels put together.
This!
-
Looks like they learned from the prequels that CGI isn't the answer.
I'm very happy that they've made actual sets, creatures and models.
-
AAAARGH! SO. MUCH. AWESOME. lol
-
I CAN'T WAIT :D :D :D
Also, I've got a mate working on Episode eight at the moment, it was a very close thing that I went with him...
Glad I didn't but kind of wishing I did lol

It certainly was good to see models, live sets and a small smattering of special effects... Out with the new, in with the old :D
Maybe the backlash from the prequels has hit home :)
It looks good to me :)
-
DAMN!!!! this is gonna be Absolutely AWESOME.
back to 4 years old :P

December can't come quick enough.
-
Saw the original in '77 - and will got to the theatre to see this too!
-
Big thanks for sharing, nice one indeed. :o
The only thing that makes me sad is the fact that as soon as something good from Ep VII shows someone must say how bad Ep I to III was... :(
Please be gentle, some -like me - liked them a lot! ;)

You're right. The first time I saw them, they were ... Substandard. I own them now, and I like them. They were good background. It makes sense. I like the story.
The new clip I think nails it: organic and real! The special effects that aren't computer generated are so much better. I love the old school approach. It's real cinema magic. 😇

Nooooooo!!!! I can't wait more time!!!!
All weekend watching the episodes IV,V and VI! lol

My mate got the job offer but I could've gone with him as they were looking for several modelmakers with experience (he was the point of contact)but I have loyalty to the company I work for now (since the old bastard retired) and I wouldn't ant to give that loyalty up :)
He's not sent us any photos though :-[ lol
cheers

Wow - so you can tell the grand kids "I almost worked on The Force Awakens"! That's close enough for me.

Spread 'em far, spread 'em wide lol

I get it that some things about J.J. Abrams' style as a director can grate on peoples nerves <cough> lens flares <cough>, but from what I've read, he does not care for CGI, and prefers a physical model or set whenever it's practical to do so.
-
This trailer reminds me of when I was a kid going down to the local video rental shop and getting the making of the Empire Strikes Back out several times. Me and my brother used to sit there for hours watching over and over again..

Spread 'em far, spread 'em wide lol
Just, eww. :-X

I couldn't agree more Agis. I'm as excited as everyone about the new movies, and I'm happy to see the return to old school film making skills, but I enjoy the prequels a lot too. I like the originals more, but it's all Star Wars to me. (Hell, I even like the Christmas Special.) There's plenty of room in the galaxy far, far away for many visions of Star Wars.

Thank God.
I loved and adored the original LOTR movies beyond reason.
I detested large swathes of The Hobbit which just looked like a giant computer game.
Too much CGI is a very bad thing that ruins movies.
-
Take Jaws for example, the jumping of the shark was ridiculous but you suspend disbelief due to the build up and escalating action through the film,
The Hobbit films unfortunately as well as a lot of movies these days rely on CGI at a detriment to the story and believability of the movie, the original LoTR films had the right amount of CGI and practical effects. The Star Wars prequels had an unholy reliance on CGI and It looks like the new film will have the right amount of each.
