A bit of dazzle paintwork to break up the profile of the barrel as it sticks out from beneath the netting when dug into emplacements. Sometimes the whole of the muzzle end was painted white.

Nice work - always good to see big British guns!

The white paint under the barrel was to help break up the straight line of the barrel - the lower side would naturally be in shadow, and hence dark. By painting it white it helped disguise it. You can see similar on a lot of animals - they have paler undersides.

This was also used in WWII on Sherman Fireflys to help disguise the much longer gun over the normal Shermans.

Boom indeed :-* :-* :-*

And another  :-*

I was wondering, is there any surviving sound recording of this gun firing a shell? Or one of it's ilk?

It would be interesting to hear it is the sound was of decent quality.

We need a heavy gun crew ?

What plans, if any at present, do you have for the crew Mark?

Darrell.

I have the HLBS crew in the queue. I also appeal to GWM to give us a pack of gunners for these heavier pieces.
