Title: My Normans
Post by: Atheling on July 16, 2015, 05:38:43 PM
Hi,

I don't remember ever posting up pics of my Normans and after having done a search in the Medieval Section I can see that I have not.

Since these pics were taken the army has been decked out with LBM banners, other than that, all the banners and shield designs on the miniatures in the pics were painted hands free.

These little fella's will form the backbone of the Norman army that will feature in The Battle of Hastings Demo Game that i will be putting on for the Lance and Longbow Society at Salute next year. There is also a chance that Stamford Bridge or more likely Fulford Gate (My preference) might be possible at the York Show, Vapnartak.

Lots of painting to do and much scenery production to get stuck into.

Thanks, since these pics were taken about en years ago the army has gone through a transformation- I'll try to find time to post up pics of the new look if at all possible (it's p*%ssing down outside and the light is not so good today).

Those are brilliant Darrell  :o

You really need to bring the army along to one of the War and Conquest events at Foundry and crush my Saxons with them!

Go on, you know you want to!!

I could be tempted  ;)

Where do the weekenders usually take place? I'd prefer to take part in a campaign weekender of some sort- less competitive and more fun with the ups and downs etc.

Thanks Michi, you're don't look too shabby either  8)

I think my painting style has changed quite a lot since they were painted, it must be over ten years ago now! today I would be applying many more layers than back in the day :)

We're at Foundry in November and hopefully for the long term.

Even though the event is titled as a 'Tournament' it really is just 2 days of fun gaming - not competition at all. It's a great weekend of friendly gaming and socialising, plus, being held at Foundry, there's lots of toys to look at!

I'll mark it down in my diary Dave- I'll make a serious effort to get there. I'll contact Foundry about what hotels etc they would recommend.

Oh, BTW, is it period specific? If so I might be up the creek without the proverbial paddle if I don't have an army. I'm doing Hastings at Salute next year so most of my time starting in about a months time will be dedicated to that.

Thanks again chaps.

Painted any Anglo Danish to go with these?

Not yet bu they will be coming thick and fast very soon. I'll be certain to post up any pics ASAP.

They will look a little something like this- a freebie mini at the 1066 and All That WAB Campaign Gripping Beast ran at WHW from back in the day:

Looking good so far. This project has certainly been earmarked as one for me to follow.

It's very possible that the rest of the stuff will be painted to my Wargames Standard as I've got a lot of Norman foot and Anglo-Danes to get through before Salute.

In other words they probably won't be my normal standard in order to get them completed.

Nice painting again on the Anglo-Dane!

I've included quite a few of GB's plastics into the Anglo-Danish army I've been working on, because the shields aren't already attached I've been able to swap the round ones that come with them for some of the kite shields GB sell separate. You of course now have the new Footsore Anglo-Saxons who also come with unattached round shields which I can swap for a few kite shields.

Look forward to seeing more of you're future work!

Cheers Marc.

I'm not going to be using any of the plastics as i've already got a very substantial collection of metals that predates the release of the plastics.

Yeah, I'm hoping that Footsore start to do unit deals soon as I really want to include some in the Hastings game.

Look forward to seeing more of you're future work!

Thanks Mark, I'll be starting a separate thread so watch this space as they say.
