Hi all
I'm new here on Lead Adventure Forum but not so new in the painting hobby. I would like to share with you some of my works I present also on my blog at http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/ (http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/). I paint miniatures mostly for skirmish gamming and do not stick tightly to realism. My models are fighting mostly against dwarves and elves so they are painted somehow in fantasy theme. I will post here models representing medieval knights and warriors and I hope you will excuse me that some of the coats of arms are not historically correct:)
Below you can see some of my models I painted last year. Soon new models from Perry will be ready and I will certainly post them here.
Would appreciate any comments and new ideas so feel free to criticize.
EDITED: My new fantasy oriented topic can be found here http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=81591.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=81591.0)

Lovely stuff, nice vibrant colours.
-
Very beautiful paintwork - well done and welcome to Lead Adventure :)
-
Very Nicely painted - well done
-
Thank you for your kind words. They made me to post one of my terrain pieces. It was first one, a prototype but quite succesful and rest of my gaming board is kept in same theme since I have created this one. Only the doors are bought and rest is made from balsa and polystyrene foam. Several more photos here

Very nice work, both the knights and house.
Which rules are you using?
-
I use skirmish rules called Song of Blade and Heroes from Ganesha Games.
My armies grows larger every day and I am currently looking for more complex rules which could cover unit movements not only single models. The problem is I mostly have fantasy models and I cannot use popular historical oriented rules (for example from Osprey) because they obviously do not cover dwarven armies:( My medieval human army is to small to break it into two separate armies yet.
-
Look just fine to me.
-
Great stuff - I will follow your blog too ;)
SoBH is a good ruleset, though other options might be Age of Sigmar and Osprey is supposedly releasing Dragon Rampant later this year.
Thanks for posting your stuff.
-
Age of Sigmar blehhh Warhammer once again. But Dragon Rampant.... it looks freaking amazing. Haven't got any idea that Osprey is going to publish rules like that. You saved my day. Right now I am certain that i will purchase those rules just after their release. Thanks a lot!
-
Great looking figures and house.
Having really liked Lion Rampant, I'm looking forward to the release of Dragon Rampant for a bit of Fantasy as well.
-
My latest creation. It was made as an entry for the terrain contest announced by my friend. Is it medieval? It certainly could be.
It took me 5 days to finish. More photos as always on my blog at http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/2015/07/cave.html (http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/2015/07/cave.html)

That's a very nice looking piece, well done. You certainly have a good level of artistic and modelling skills 8)
-
Great work, both on the minis and the terrain!
-
Great details! Cant wait to see more!
-
Great work, but the only thing missing from the cave is a tiny white rabbit, the addition of which would make it perfect :)
-
We had exactly the same idea. My girlfriend even sculpted the rabbit from miliput but we had't got enough time to paint it :(
(http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nS1Ij-g08YM/VTn0xWLLfXI/AAAAAAAABQI/iwT2eIUA0X4/s1600/rabbit.jpg)

Excellent stuff!! ;)
-
Lol,the killer rabbit of Caerbannog ! Outstanding :)
-
Excellent stuff, love the dwarfs on your blog too.
-
Thank you all for great support.
Nord : I will post only knights and terrains here but your visits on my blog are welcomed:) more dwarves are yet to come there.

Excellent. Well done. That's a lovely piece of terrain. I'm looking forward to seeing the full layout :-*
-
Welcome to the Forum.
Very well painted figures.
Love your buildings.
Lots of neat toys on your blog.

Excellent hill!

While painting new miniatures it is time for a blast from the past for those who have not seen those works on my blog:
http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/2015/01/perryminiaturesfootknights1.html (http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/2015/01/perryminiaturesfootknights1.html)
I have improved my photographic skills since I have taken those but I hope you will see something in this photos:

-
Your painting skills are excellent. I love the attention you have paid to the different armour parts rather than just dry brushing the armour, also the surcoats are very well done indeed.
-
:-* :-* :-*
-
More beauties. Well done - keep them coming :-*
-
Thank you for your kind words.
I have just opened new topic here on the forum where my fantasy miniaures will be shown.
If you are interested I have just posted recently finished miniatures of Dwarf Rangers.

Hi all,
I've just published my new work on my blog at http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/2015/09/woodenhouse.html (http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/2015/09/woodenhouse.html). Just a simple wargaming element for Song of Blade and Heroes / Lions Rampant skirmishes. I've started this almost year ago. You can see some WIP photos of that building here http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/2014/09/houses.wip.html (http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/2014/09/houses.wip.html)

A very pretty little house.

Very nice work here all around! Inspiring!
-
eye candy, i like very much.
-
This all looks great. The tutorials on your blog are great too. Will have to take some time to have a proper read through.
-
I love the the terrain, it looks like it belongs in a 90's GW rulebook (in the best possible way!), you have a good eye! Also, excellent photographs.

Thanks for your comments folks. Currently I am trying to improve the speed of my painting as I recently bought some new models from Perrys. I hope I will soon be ready to present you some of these.
I take a lot of inspiration from amazing models displayed here on that forum especially from fantastic army of Captain Blood. Just started to dig for more threads concerning Perry Miniatures. If you know other topics that I could get some inspirations from please let me know.
In the meantime some new WIPs

These are all looking great! Well done :-*
I especially like the advancing pikeman in the barbute helmet.

If you haven't already visited Painterman's blog, it is http://je-lay-emprins.blogspot.co.uk/ - a wealth of stunning Perry conversions
Also Stuart's Army Royal blog http://www.stuartsworkbench.blogspot.co.uk/
Stuart and Simon (Painterman) both have a lot of threads here on LAF showing their work. But their blogs have it all. Glorious 8)
Also worth checking out 15th Panzer's lovely collection: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=48757.0

Simon's blogs are possibly my favourites in Bloglland so I endorse Richard's suggestions.
If I'm not being too impertinent suggesting my own La Journee Blog, which mainly deals with the (seemingly forgotten Battle of Verneuil during the so called Hundred Years War (actually a series of dynastic struggles):
http://lajourney-bedford.blogspot.co.uk/
Go to the earliest posts for the juiciest images (and click 'new post' at bottom of each page):

Also, you'd be mad to miss the Medieval stuff on Saxon Dog's blog too (David Imrie's easily one of the best historical mini painters around):

Cheers,
Darrell.

Thanks for the quick responses. I have already checked some of the links you provided and the materials that are placed there look very promising. Many great inspirations for future projects. You both have not pointed at http://xulutec.blogspot.com. Take a look at that blog as I found it very inspirational too. The creator has some outstanding painting skills and I try to take from him as much as I can. Thanks again for your links.

Some new additions to my medieval/fantasy army. This time i used a little to much light and the pictures become too bright but I hope you will forgive me.

Great set of archers, inspirational!

Very nice work :-*.
Have you based them for a particular rule set?
Darrell.

Lovely painting. Thanks for sharing

Thanks guys. Your appreciation means a lot for me.
Very nice work :-*.
Have you based them for a particular rule set?
Darrell.
I used to play Song of Blades and Heroes but my armies expanded and somebody here (maybe even you) in this thread suggested that i should try Lions Rampant. I bought it, i am impressed and right now I am preparing my units to fit that rule set.
-
Lion Rampant is a very good set, nice and simple mechanisms that do give a feel problems of command with various troop types in the Medieval Skirmish setting- it's really a lot of fun and can be frustrating but in a very good way!
We're about to embark on our first "Haggis Rampant- Border Wars" campaign game on Thursday eve and I'm salivating just thinking about it!
Please do try them out- I think you will find them to be a great laugh :)
BTW, it might have been me!! o_o o_o
Darrell.

Wow!
That's some really great paint work you've done there.
Bravo!

Hello,
Superb paintjob !!! :-* :-*

Your skill and attention to detail is humbling. I love your work.

Finally I finished my first bowmen unit. I deliberately had not attached the banner to the pole because I have not yet decided what faction these models will represent In the following photos you can see 7 new models that I have not published until now. I encourage you to visit my blog where I described the short story behind these miniatures : http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/2015/12/perrybowmen.html (http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/2015/12/perrybowmen.html)

Very nice work indeed! :-*

A little sneak peek of the miniatures that I am curently working on.
I am also preparing a small tutorial about using simple paper prints to prepare flags and banners. I hope that some of you will find that usefull. I will soon post that stuff on my blog at http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/ (http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/)

Fantastic buildings, minis and flags. Lets not forget that rabbit your girlfriend should make more minis mould and sell them. Very inspirational keep 'em coming - maybe a review on the rules your using would also be good.
-
For all interested I have just finished a small tutorial about creating flags for miniatures.
In this article you will also find a file with my custom-made flags and some interesting links to websites with a large amount of ready to be printed flags.
You can read it on my blog at http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/2016/01/how-to-make-flags-for-miniatures.html (http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/2016/01/how-to-make-flags-for-miniatures.html)

Wow! I've just had a wee read over your thread! Good stuff! :-*
-
Thanks guys. i appreciate your comments. They keep me going!
-
Lovely work, your painting is excellent and the basing is very nice indeed. It also helps that you know how to photograph your work too 😋
-
Fantastic work! Very inspirational. Makes me want to get working on the ton of stuff on my desk !
Once your collection gets big enough, I highly recommend the To the Strongest rules set for big, mass battles. It uses playing cards instead of dice, and I find that makes for a very tense, exciting game, as you need to weigh the risk of drawing a card and trying to get a unit to act multiple times or losing the initiative to the enemy. The game's flow can go back and forth like a real battle's, and because there's no dice or measuring, the game goes faster but in such a way that makes for a tight, tense drama.
-
Hello,
Superb paintjob !! :-* :-*
Nikko
-
Since the beginning of this year I am working on the new project – the castle. Have a look at some WIPs. I have also started the series of “how to” tutorials. Two first parts are ready. Have a look and ask question if you would like to know something more.
part I - something about inspirations http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/2016/01/howtobuildacastle1.html (http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/2016/01/howtobuildacastle1.html)
part II – Gatehouse http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/2016/02/how-to-build-a-castle-part2.html (http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/2016/02/how-to-build-a-castle-part2.html)
-
Very cool.
I like the step by step shots too. The ones showing the internal structure of the roof are very helpful - really shows how to make it. Using two triangles across the diagonal as the former, then just putting triangles on top - really simple, but I don't think I would have thought that out myself.
-
Wow, the work on your castle is excellent.
Thanks for the how to tutorials.
Also you continue to shop some great looking figures.
Well done.
-
Enjoying your work, KorNat! Onwards!
-
Wow what a great thread! Some amazing work
-
Wow, this just gets better and better. The castle tutorial is excellent.
-
Thank you all guys. I am currently working on another part of the tutorial that will cover my approach to creating doors from balsa wood and plasticard. Here you can see a spoiler:)
-
Before I manage to finished the entry about doors I prepared another entry that shows my progress with castle structure. This time I have described how I build square tower. I invite you all to comment. I you have any tips, tricks or ideas I could use I would be glad to read these.
http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/2016/03/how-to-build-castle-part-iii-tower.html (http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/2016/03/how-to-build-castle-part-iii-tower.html)

Nice work on texturing and detailing, all the little strange additions to the castle make it seem very real.
I like the DAS stone filling/fixing too. 8)
I imagine it will paint up exactly the same, but have you tested this out just to make sure?
Cheers
Matt
-
Beautiful. That looks like a very solid fortress taking shape :-*
-

You encouraged me to made some tests Matt. Have a look at the results on my blog http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/2016/03/bricks.html (http://pinatwar.blogspot.com/2016/03/bricks.html)
or simply here below. I am not sure if I stick to one of these painting schemes when I will be painting the castle. Right now I am thinking that bricks should be brighter on the final model and I also think that the idea of cracks being filled with plaster looks quite nice.
What do you think guys?
-
If I had a preference I'd go for the second lot- looks more like silicate rock than the others 8)
Of course, most of these tower/castle walls would have been rendered in their day.
Darrell.
-
This thread is filled with beautiful miniatures and terrain. Very lush.
-
Glad to help! lol Or just to be a general pest ;)
I like the plaster mortar, the effect turns out really well. And the grey looks quite good 8)
Cheers
Matt
-
I like the panel on the far right.
-
The far right one is the bestest. I like the variation in the stones and the mortar effect. Perhaps the mixed stone work/mortar with the tan color stones? (Too much gray rocks in gaming scenery!)
-
I like the first one on the left. I think if you go with the one on the right, while its nice on a small scale, it might look too bland when over a bigger piece. I think the whiter mortar of the one of the left, breaks it up a bit.
-
Another great painting and modelling thread! :-*
May I ask, how do you do your photos with the black backdrop? I always get very poor results when using a dark background (the minis themselves seem to get 'over-exposed'/too hard lit).
-
Excuse me for the late reply. I've missed notification from the Lead Adventure server. I think that the most important part in taking decent photos is to use a proper background. I was looking for mine for a long time as I didn't want to buy any proffesional piece of equpment. Finaly I found that for me the best backround is the reverse site of the material which is used to make mousepads. I bought custom wargaming playmat made of the same material and now I am using the back of the playmat as a photography background. It is flat, matt and it absorbs the light. To set up a camera I am using knowledge that is easy to gather from the internet. Check for example this tutorial from massive voodo: http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.com/2013/09/miniature-photography-part-2-how-do-i.html
-
That is an impressive castle in the making.

Amazing miniatures, the colours are superb and the paint work is crisp and clean. The only thing that tops your minis though is your scratch built terrain. It is really increadible. Lots of inspiration and ideas! Great thread! Keep it up.

I really appreciate your comments guys. Have a look at my first mounted knights unit that I painted some time ago.

All right:) It's time to present whole unit of my Mounted Men at Arms 1450-1500. A very versatile unit for multiple systems that I play. Today I would like to share something different. Several new flags for my army. The first flag which presents the Swan - a polish coat of arms used by Peter Dunin – supreme commander of Polish Army during the time of Thirteen Years' War between Kingdom of Poland and Teutonic Order. Here you can read more about that interesting conflict which took place in exactly the same time as War of the Roses https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thirteen_Years'_War_%281454%E2%80%9366%29 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thirteen_Years'_War_%281454%E2%80%9366%29)
The second and third flag are two versions of Great Banner of Cracow – main battle standard of Polish Army in Late Middle Ages.
I prepared ready to be printed version : https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByVKfXSDT2qudU82RVFJYW1BZDQ/view?usp=sharing (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByVKfXSDT2qudU82RVFJYW1BZDQ/view?usp=sharing)

-
Very nice work! :-* I would love to hear how you made those banners look so good. Photoshop? Also, it's clear that the Coat of Arms of Redania in the Witcher Series is based on that Great Banner of Cracow, not surprising given the author is Polish. :D
-
Yes. I used PS for gradient and Adobe InDesign in order to prepare banners to print in proper scale.
You are probably right about the flag of Redania:)
-
Both minies and castle are splendors ! Bravo :-*

As always thank you guys for the comments. They keep me going. Right now I am working on several new miniatures from Perrys Bros and in the meantime on the new scenery piece - a cementry. Not very historically correct but I will try to make it as medieval as I can. I'm not envious. Nope, I'm not... o_o

More delights to share.
Thank you for doing so.
Love all the new toys.

Wow!!!!
It looks so tranquil and menacing at the same time...
Those candles are a very nice addition.

That's nice! :-* I love all of the colours you've used!

I'm a big fan of putting the effort in with bases, because it always gives the model a bit of extra oomph. Those bases are fantastic. I am seriously envious of how realistic the mud, rock and vegetation look on them.

Inspiring stuff! Thanks for posting!

really nice thank you for the candle tutorial

Wow! I really like the bright colours of the riders, against the muted colours of the horses.
How do you paint the metal dots on the armour of the middle, red, rider? I always find these a nightmare, and end up with metal on the red, or missing some of the dots.
-
This is an excellent thread, full of wonders.
:-* :-*
Late to the party (dunno just how I missed it until now...) but I shall be back for a proper ogle tomorrow.
:D

Well. Its simple:) Just use rather thick paint, pointed brush and a lot of patience.

Brilliant colours on those Horse Archers.

Colors are so rich and tasty!

Once again, lovely. How about a group shot? :) Must be quite an army by now...
-
Nice. How did you do the jacks/gambesons? If it's as simple as a basecoat and wash, I'd like to know what paints you used!
-
As far as group photo is concerned I am thinking about it myself:) Soon I will post all of them here.
And abput the recipe: I mostly used different mix of Balor Brown (GW) and Lemon Yellow (Vallejo) to make the yellows with a little bit of brown wash in the recesses.

Perfect painting!
