Title: Suitable Angel figure for Graveyard in 28mm (and columns too?)
Post by: Gunbird on July 19, 2015, 01:39:04 AM
Anyone have any reccomendations? I was very happy someone sent me some weeping angels recently only to find out to my horror that they are made of floppy rubber  :(
I like the Titan Forge angels but it comes only as 1 piece in a bag of bases, and I'm looking for 4 angels, no more.

Just angels, no oversized (if any) weapons please.

And simple columns to mount them on would be nice too. Not too tall, 1 inch is more then enough.

I picked up an Angel from Reaper Miniatures. Sorry I don't have the code you'll have to search on their website.

The column it sits on is from Forgeworld.

The figure on the left with a sword is a vampire lord, also Reaper Miniatures, The column is from Fantascene, not sure if their stuff is still available.

Yep, Reaper does quite a few angels, so searching for "angel" on their shop's figure finder will give you a few options in metal, and possibly some in reconstituted mashed potato.

Crooked Dice makes three metal "scary statues" that are lachrymosely angelic.  BTW, if you got the soft plastic angels from Doctor Who Adventures, be aware that there is an even worse material: they once gave away one made of that material that expands when exposed to water, normally used for those "Grow Your Own Millionaire" things from novelty shops.

West Wind makes these column toppers: http://www.westwindproductions.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2_38&products_id=347 (http://www.westwindproductions.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2_38&products_id=347)

Thx chaps for the ideas.

Due to lack of gaming budget I will stick to first building with what I have and dreaming about these items to possibly buy at a later date :)

If you wait a little, Reaper has their "Angels of Sorrow" and a few others coming out in their bones line. They would probably work, and for a horror game, you might be able to create a few hints towards a certain type that also weep that they're modeled after, though are still generic enough to work for a tomb marking

Go with the bendy angels, mate.

They are not so bad and you already have them.
 ;)

They come out well enough for my liking, here is my shrine using them.....

Not sure if it was Westwind, but there was a Lucifer's War range a few years back - lots of Angels in that.

Thx Mason. Yours look very nice, maybe I should give them a try after all.  Where did you get your column from?

Thx Thargor :)

The column was part of the statue that you see.
It is a dolls house garden accessory.
I broke it with a hammer.

I suggest that you try out cake decorations as they are cheap and easily available.

Note: The angels themselves have been stuck to plastic slotta bases to provide the plinth.
Maybe you could do the same and then mount each them onto a block instead of using columns?

  ;)

There are loads of different types available.
Here are a few that are on ebay, but you can probably source them cheaper...

I was thinking similar; has anyone taken same and 'broken'/'ruined' them up? Would love pointers.

Have used cake decorations (columns) in the past, (before gotting some Hirst Arts stuff) they're usually plaster, so they're easy to modify - cut them with a hoopsaw/fretsaw/hacksaw & texture the cut surface with a centre punch. If they're plaster, a coat of PVA or a spray primer before panting helps.

Many thanks, sirrah, but I was considering the styrene ones. Hollow, 'capping' the ends of broken columns would be tricky.

If the columns are hollow, wouldn't a large chunk of green stuff/miliput work - simply plugging the hole & giving you a surface to texture? If you've got a pic of the columns you mean I could probably be more specific, hope this helps.

Try gluing a round plasticard disc over then end then you can milliput the damaged end over that.

They are pretty thin-walled, so that seems more likely to work. I'd even think a couple of cuts and a couple of pieces of plastic, sort of /\_ , then roughed out, might do. I've a few columns lying around fallow, and it's the kind of thing I'd at least start.  ;)
