can't add muc more than has already been said, lovely stuff. I never get bored seeing different versions of these figures. I think they are amongst the best work Copplestone has done.
-
Thanks alot for your kind words.
I think they are amongst the best work Copplestone has done.
I think his DA Minatures have so much Character, they're really marvelous. It's really a pity that it took me so long to get them started :`
-
Brilliant work - would you mind sharing how you've done the skintones on the bearers? (technique, paints used etc.)
-
Woooonderful ;D ;D ;D
best compliments for your works,
as somebody else has already said , never annoyed to see same figures but with so excellent paint.
Piero
-
Top work Tellus :)
Darkest Africa's just about my favourite range too.
-
I'm glad you like them :D
@ De'Ath
Well, I start with Bay Brown Shade (Foundry) to get a really daaark shade and then I use Dusky Flesh Shade (also Foundry) as the main colour, light it up with some Dusky Flesh to get areas stand out like muscles, bald heads, bellies and so on-but with some caution. And for the final highlights I take Dusky Flesh light.
-
Fantastic painting there.

-
very nice paint work!!
-
Nice ones!
-
Really like your painting style.
Don't know how to describe it exactly, kinda "streaky" but it gives a really nice textured look to your mini's.
Any thoughts on technique for us novices?
-
Hey Ray,
actually you're right it's streaky. The technique is a bit like hatching (I'm not sure if that's the right word-blame it on my dictionary) like when you're drawing a sketch and fill it with short and fast strokes in an abstract way because you have no time to do it real or just want it the way-like in some kinds of comics.
Normaly I paint with Foundry colours because they work very good in blending the 3 Colour tones into each other and it's less time consuming than mixing your own palette.
So I start with the shade colour and to get even more depth I go over with an ink or wash (at the moment mostly with GW's Devlin Mud). Then I start hatching with the shade colour again, next the middle colour and at least the highlight tone,at that moment I'm changing to a smaler brush,do shorter strokes which I concentrate more on the edges and all the other parts that need some higlighting.
Well that's all,piece of cake,isn't it ;D ;)
-
Well that's all,piece of cake,isn't it ;D ;)
Yea... piece of cake!
:o
-
Looks great!
I just used a similar technique to paint the skin on 'Tonka' from Black Hat - to represent the muscles under his skin. My result is not as convincing as yours, though... :)
-
Superb job....just love them :-*
-
Glad you like them-stay tuned there's still more to come!
Well that's all,piece of cake,isn't it ;D ;)
Yea... piece of cake!
:o
Ok,you need a bit practice,like with everything you've never done bevor :)
If you come over(some day)I'll show you ;)
-
Those minis really look wonderful.
But there is one member missing. We need to add Digwiddow's quarterwit nephew - the "Little Master".
-
Since a while I'm busy with the Stuff for the Tactica and so I wasn't able to do much here, but I've read in another thread that HLBS is dropping their 28mm range. So I found out that they have some nice animals for my Africa project. And here are some really lovable chaps :D
(http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z34/zyphalion/African%20Expedition/Hyena.jpg)
-
I realise that in reality they are not pleasant creatures, but I've always had a soft spot for hyenas. They look really cute to me :?
Your models are beautifully done 8)
-
Here are some more animals, all from HLBS (unfortunately not longer available):
Here comes the feathers....
and radio africa
(http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z34/zyphalion/African%20Expedition/RadioAfrika.jpg)
-
Nice thread showcasing some beautiful toys - well done everybody.
-
Again very good job.
Just an idea: If you can hold a couple of packs of Mega Miniatures flamingoes will add more colour in your Africa!
-
Ah Tellus that is very nice stuff .
I plan to paint my African Animals soon so it is a good insperation for me.
thanks.

When I saw the Giraffe from HLBS I thought "I want this" but when it arrived I realized that it wouldn't be easy to paint this beauty. So it took me a while till I started off. Finally the Giraffe should take part in our DA Scenario.
-
WOW - he looks fantastic! :o
The appearance is almost stenciled - that is some remarkable brushwork!!
-
ich liebe sie :-*
and I have to paint my figure soon
-
I realized that it wouldn't be easy to paint this beauty.
that's why I didn't painted any giraffes till today. I like your painting, Tellus, very effective.
-
Superb Giraffe :) :o ;D :-*
-
Yes, that is a lovely piece of painting. Very well done :)
-
Thank you!
After I had to redo some lines I got a feeling how it would work.It reminded me of the time when I painted the Kilts of the Cameron Highlanders. So I had to be careful not to get to geometric with the pattern, don't wanted to end up with a chess board lol
-
tellus,
just 'WOW'
regards
jim
-
Really well done! Is that proper english? Keep up the great work and enjoying seeing your minis.
-
So, after having a break with the animals, I painted this two new members of my Expedition yesterday :
-
Is that a Black Watch plaid? lol
-
Is that a Black Watch plaid? lol
When Obadiah was recruiting the natives for his Expedition he saw one who was clad in something that reminded him of his beloved Country. So he made him carry the Flag but never found out what origins this piece of cloth were. :D ;)
-
Well, there was a lost tribe of Scotsmen in the African great lakes region...
;)
-
Ah, may be he will find out about that, too - sooner or later lol
-
Awesome work! :-* :-*
-
Here's a nother one.
What do you guess-is he going to handle his Missus with the stick or the carrot? ;)
-
So, Tellus, tell us about the blue flag with the white X, please. If you already explained it, forgive me.
Chick
-
Tellus, I'm so glad you've revived your thread. These are another lovely pair of figures. I particularly like the cricketer. I'm a massive cricket fan so it's always wonderful to see this figure painted so well :-*
I wish I knew where mine has gone to. Possibly he sneaked of to the West Indies for the World Twenty20 ..... lol lol
-
@chicklewis
Ah, well, no problem..eh... the Expedition Leader Mr. Obadiah Digwiddow is obviously a true scotsman, as you can see in the picture below. So, what do you expect he likes his Bannerbearer to carry? lol
[img width=800 (http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z34/zyphalion/African%20Expedition/Expedrei.jpg)
@Gluteus
glad you like him, it's really a unique figure. I'm with you as my cricketeer has left my collection, too. I painted him as a present for mothers day and she loves him :)
-
Tellus, that flag is also the 'signalling flag' for the letter "M". Embarassingly, I missed the fact that it also is the flag of Scotland.
-
Well, there was a lost tribe of Scotsmen in the African great lakes region...

Funny you should say that. I have bought that Bob Murch figure with this exact idea in mind. Just haven't got around to starting it yet.
-
You're building quite an awesome collection.
The cricket'er and Mr. Obadiah Digwiddow are down right beautiful. :-*
BTW... are you putting pupils in those eyes... :o
-
Seen all this on sweetwater and it looks jusz as good here as it does there! 8) 8)
Christopher
-
Yes indeed I dare to ;)

a little nasty suprise during a cigar break
-
Looks like his man has it covered.
Interesting fabric texture - very nice though
-
Very nice Mark. I like the croc in the background :)
-
Thank you!
@Nick
I've painted the cigar man as a present for someone else but wanted to keep a picture of him. Then I had this scene on my mind and as I had the crocodile already primed in the shelve I painted it in 10 minutes.. é voila. I like the way it turns up in the picture, too. A bit blurry and it blends in with the vegetation quite nice.

I had to look twice to see him!
