Today i tried to paint fire. I started with a white basecoat adding yellow, orange and red to the layering mixtures. I'm not right pleased with the overall look of it :?

My first attempt of painting fire. I didnīt dare to paint torches yet, but I think I should now. Would you agree?

You are off to a great start.Thank You very much. It's a fun period indeed and I am glad that I have tried out the Dead Mans Hand rule set.
Really like your Mexicans and US Cav. figures.
A really fun period to play.
Look forward to seeing more.
That's a really great idea for the wagon! SmileyToday i tried to rework the fire a little bit. I added a bit more white and orange to the basic mixture with a small highlight of black. And i started to add smoke as well.
Some touch up using Michi's photos as a guide and you'll be fine!
Great OW collection! CoolThanks alot, and by the way The pun is a good one :D
That burning wagon piece looks hot! (pun intended)
The end result with the wagon is smashing!
The wagon looks terrific. ;D
Great idea with the burning wagon. Well done!
Excellent burning wagonsThank You :)
Looking good.Thank You very much :)
You are making good progress on this project.
Keep it coming.
Lovely!! The Black Scorpion figures have a bit of character to em hey. (pitty most in the range share similar )Thanks A Lot :)
Look at the brown duster with pinstripes!!!
Great brushmanship continues! Great details, like the striped pants and the pear handle of the revolver LoveThank You :)
2 tone pin stripes!!More to come on the next minis 8)
Missed this thread earlier, very nice collection and I love what you have done to that burning wagon. Excellent job.Thank You very much :)
beautiful paint job and the eyes are super LoveThanks :)
Laundry - love it! Especially the interior detail - marvellous, just marvellous!!!Thank you. Maybe you can find suitable eqquipment in dollhouse-accessory?
If only I had the patience to do one in 54mm.
Brilliant!Feel free to copy it. I'm looking forward to see your version 8)
A great scene.
Love Love
On my list of things to do, so I shall be back to steal ideas later.
Cheesy
Mr Wu doesn't look happy, must be all the mess around his shop Wink i like all the scatter though. CheesyYeah. He came to the west to get rich and famous. But soon he was completely spilled in dirty underwear of the rich and famous lol
Cheers
Matt
Yeah. He came to the west to get rich and famous. But soon he was completely spilled in dirty underwear of the rich and famous lol
Oh the poor chap didn't quite make it to his grave Sadlol I have to admit that the skeletton is a little bit unrealistic; but i like the descent fantasy touch it provides ::)
You may need a hearse now to take the dead up the hill WinkThanks for this splendid Idea 8)
I really like the Boot Hill piece, lots of character and very nicely presented. Thanks a lot for the breakdown of where the different items are from, very helpful. You are welcome :)
Too late, likely, to try but when I saw your first version of flames I thought it would be interesting to try using a little gloss medium on the flames to see how that worked - flames have a translucent quality to them.Very interesting idea! I still have some water-modelling effects left off an older project. I'm going to use it for a torch to test the overall look!
I do wonder about the Chinese laundry man - he seems to have an awfully thick beard for a man of that descent, all of the people I've know of such descent, quite a few, have always had very sparse facial hair. But, heck, its a big country and there must be some men with the right ancestry to grow such a full beard. You are absolutely right :o .Don't know what came into my mind while painting the beard. After thinking about it, the beard does look a little odd. I'll change it immediately!
Love the boot hill, especially the removable headstones. I would have saved the skeleton as a removable piece for the burning wagon, though. That's going to freak out all the ladies attending the next funeral in the cemetery!Thank You very much :)
Now, I just need to find time to get to my own old west collection! Inspiring.
I am looking forward to seeing what you have planned with the new stuff.Me too! lol
Cheesy
Will you be posting pictures of your buildings? You are welcome :)
Good stuff, all around, and some nice ideas. Shall be following this with interest!Thank You very much :)
Somehow I missed the travelling cat house - outstanding! That I really do have to do in 54mm WinkI am definitively looking forward to this one ;)
Looking back through I spotted one tiny flaw in all the excellence and for a while I couldn't put my finger on what it was - the signs in lower case letters like handwriting. Most would have been the work of proper signwriters and as such done with a high level of skill, and (OK I accept I'm a pedant with this one) but all the signs I have ever seen in photos are all UPPER CASE ie capital letters - lots of different fonts but always caps??Thank You, Sir :)
But this is a very small point when weighed against the overall brilliance of your work.
Love your Old West town, very characterful. Will save a few of those ideas of yours for later use SmileyThank You very much :)
Looks like I missed some updates....and what great updates they are! Thanks, pal.
Shocked
That cathouse is great, all the small details really make it pop.
That interior is wonderful and the young lad having a peep is inspired.
Love Love
Details, details....it is all in the details!
Cool Cool
I shall be paying more attention in future.
Cheesy
Great thread SmileyThank You very much 8)
cheers

OOh I do like the hand crafted terrain. Love Love Your timber work is very nice sir. And the bathers gave me a giggle, very reminiscent of Season 1 of Hell On Wheels WinkThank You. I had never worked with Wood before. Regarding the timber work I still learn more and more about how to use it by trying out new stuff or lurking around the depths of the lead-adventure-forum to get inspired by the fantastic work of other users.
Cheers
Matt
Sure hope they're serving pulque in there WinkI am for sure that this is true for daylight times. But I don't know whats going on in there at dusk or night lol
The vegitation is fantastic! And the crushed pot! BRILLIANT Love Love Love Love Love LoveThank You. I am glad that you like it. I removed the tree I was using before and exchanged it with the one featured in the pictures. Additionally I added some more bushes and vines. I'm quite pleased with the new look of it (maybe I find some older pics which show the older tree).
Thank you for such wonderful and 'moody' shots of the build. They are like stills from the Magnificent Seven. CoolThank You for comparing my terrain with this wonderfull movie. Now that I have the fitting Minis from Knuckleduster, all I got to do is painting them. But this makes me wonder: Do I have to search for a new model to represent Calvera or is the Boss of my Mexicans good enough ???
Very impressive!
Very inspirational.Thank You.
The roofrop scenes with the vegetation look stunning.
Love
The finished pulpit is fantastic! 8) 8) 8) Better than a bought one!
The finished pulpit is fantastic! Cool Cool Cool Better than a bought one!And it is a lot cheaper lol
Looking goodThank You.
Now, where's mine? GrinI don't know lol
A mine is something that I always intended to do for my own Old West project but that will have to wait for some time for two reasons: Firstly, I have not got the time to do it properly at the moment and secondly, space.Space. A final frontier... :D
Where would I store the bloody thing as it will be mahoosive when I finally get around to it...?
Space. A final frontier... :D
I know exactly what you mean. I'm getting space-problems, too. That is one of the main reasons why I decided to make just a small Mine Entry instead of a whole Mine with lots of tunnels and carts and so on.
I can't wait to see this mine finished. Keep it up your terrain and minis are a great inspiration. Thanks :)
Just noticed your open bible too how did you do that any advise on doing small print and or books would be much appreciated. There has been a Reaper Set containing different wizard's Equipment. Two of which has been books (a Necronomicon and the one I used as the big Bible). I'm still looking for the name of the Set!
What a wonderfully inspiring thread...can't wait to see the mine finished (something I've often been tempted to try but have never risked...) very cool! Thanks alot. I'm painting all the wooden stuff right now. But I've already noticed that I need much more Detail (such as metal nails, Ropes...).
Great stuff!! LoveThank You. I'm glad you like my Wild West Terrain :)
Maybe, but I know that I would keep wanting to add more.... Roll EyesThank You very much. To add more realism to the mine I'm still looking for typical Gold Rush Equipments. Maybe I need to get my hands on one of those Sets:
Speaking of adding more....the new additions look great and entirely natural in their composition.
Cool

Love the Lady in Red in the center of the last page. Manufacture?
Much lovely work here, Andy. Your vampire is looking great - if she hops behind the wheels of that armoured carrier she will be a force to reckon with!
I don't stop looking at the burning wagon! Shocked
I think you've managed a very realistic depiction of fire and you did it in an instructive way!
Cheers!
