Title: My Frostgrave stuff - Summoner's warband added 8/15
Post by: wolfen on July 30, 2015, 04:32:25 AM
The start of my Frostgrave warbands. In all honesty I will probably never get to play since I cant remember the last time I actually did play a wargame of any kind. I do love building models though and Frostgrave is the kind of setting that I do want to play in. So I built these, just in case I ever do find the time and/or the people to play with. I dont have any warband layouts yet, just started building stuff that I like

Apprentice and Necromancer. The Necro is a twisted, power hungry man who constantly humiliates his apprentice. Hence the funny hat. They have allied with a company of cursed soldiers who are currently doomed to a half life between life and death (similar to the first Pirates movie). They journey together to Frostgrave to seek a counter curse amidst the magical riches of the city. Of course, the Necro will betray the soldiers, the apprentice will betray the necro etc etc...

Knight, Templar and Marksman

An Enchanter and his apprentice. The Enchanter is also a blacksmith, hence his brawnyness. The apprentice is a sculptor and wood carver. Still need to do a little greenstuffing on the Enchanter.

Still working on a few thugs for this warband and more fleshed out backgrounds for the 2 sides. I have a bunch of old Mordheim Sisters of Sigmar that I may adapt for this game too plus who knows what else. The possibilities are endless.

Awesome conversions!  I love the enchanter and the necro's apprentice in particular.  All the extra bits on them look great.  Makes me want to get a box of brettonians to do some converting myself.

Awesome use of the Bretonnian kits.  They definitely look like they could be natives of Frostgrave.

I was considering doing something similar with Empire models.  Empire Archer/Huntsman bodies would be used for the unarmored Thugs and Thieves.  The light armored State Troop infantry bodies would be used for Archers, Crossbowmen, Infantrymen, and Men-at-Arms.  Greatsword bodies could be used for Knights, Templars, and Marksmen.  Flagellants with large flails could be used as Barbarians.  The other specialists could be created using whatever would make sense aesthetically.

I love that necromancer built from the High Elf parts. Great stuff!

Some great conversions here - I especially like the Enchanter!  :)

I think that the Bretonnians make great henchmen though, and I'm keen to see them mixed with the Frostgrave plastics at some point.

Those Bretonnians definitely look right. Great conversion work. Looking forward to seeing them painted. You know what, I dare bet you will find someone to play against. The great thing about a game like this is that it is manageable in size, and thus easier to get a game in.

3 lowly thugs for the human warband.

I think this group is done for now. I have plenty of specialists to choose from. I do have a knight model lying around that would fit the aesthetic but I don't know if I'll use him or not. Now to start planning the next group.

I like the dramatic poses. especially on the necromancer and dog handler.

Where are the skeletons from?

The Skeletons are from the Fir Bolg faction of the Celtos range by Brigade Models.

I've got a few Celtos models that I'm using for Frostgrave, very nice models and the Gaels make excellent barbarians.

I heard someone say recently that Barbarian minis all tended to be burly viking types. I made this guy to use as a Barbarian. He is dressed in rags and chains to represent a crazed slave who is unleashed on the enemy. The facemask just adds to the crazy. I will probably paint him with a different skin colour to emphasize his "foreign-ness" when compared to the rest of the warband he accompanies.

All of your models are looking good, but I've got to ask where the hounds came from. I've been looking for something like them.

Dogs are from the Confrontation Cadwallon range. They came in a pack of 3 with a handler.

really nice kit-bashing there. I like your parties a lot, they are very characterful. The Bretonian figures work great. I am annoyed I sold all mine on ebay.

I have ordered the Summoner from Northstar. While thinking about what I wanted his warband to use I remembered I had these Persian spruces from Wargames Factory sitting around doing nothing. A few days later and here we are.

3 thieves and a couple of thugs.

(http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo203/foyt21/20150815_154014-1_zpsivifgqi1.jpg) (http://s376.photobucket.com/user/foyt21/media/20150815_154014-1_zpsivifgqi1.jpg.html)

A knight, an infantryman and an archer.

(http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo203/foyt21/20150815_154230-1_zpsdlxq24vk.jpg) (http://s376.photobucket.com/user/foyt21/media/20150815_154230-1_zpsdlxq24vk.jpg.html)

I will also be using my alt barbarian from earlier in this warband. A prisoner taken in some past war, now tortured into madness. Now I'm just waiting for the wizards to arrive.

Really good conversions , great character to the different bands.

Where does your Barbarian's Iron Mask head come from? I would love to get one of those for a figure conversion.

Its from Games Workshop's Empire Flagellants plastic set. The whole figure, bar the blade, is from the same place.

Got the molossers from Confro, too. Painted the leader out of fun some years ago but since then no reason for the other two dogs.
Do You have any plans aboutthe colours? I am not sure myself, maybe a black-brown will look sinister enough. Also, I am not sure how to copy that original white-ish colour without making it too pink. :(

Much appreciated, am now on the hunt for Plastic Flagellant sprues!
