Recently, however with a little delay Hannibal and me staged a small Halloween special, in the form of a Gloire game using the new Among the Warparties supplement. I wrote two scenarios, inspired by the "Wendigo" campaign and one of my favorite movies, "Le Pacte the Lups". Historical background was given by the French & Indian War, which raged over North America from 1754 to 1763.
In the first scenario accidentally British and French patrols met at an outpost ("Fort Wilderness", after a famous movie) which had been devastated and abandoned only days before. They had to find tracks of the causer of the devastation. Second encounter took place at an old mission house whereto the tracks obviously led. A giant beast (the "horror") appeared A Jesuit priest played a dubious role in this scenario. This last game ended with a cliffhanger, which could be used as a link for further scenarios.
Being involved as author, gamemaster and player, I had no time for taking pictures or writing up the flow of events. Therefore, no full scale game report this time. But maybe you like to see what I've tinkered especially for this game - only hours before things started, as usual. lol
First, the beast and its master (or maybe not?)
And a back view. (Never again will I use gloss and matt varnish to finish a miniature; that turns out total crap everytime I do it! >:( )
Und die beliebte Rückansicht. (Niemals wieder benutze ich Glanz- und Mattlack auf einer Figur; da bessere ich lieber abgeriebene Stellen aus. :cursing: )

Additionally, I built a marker set with a slight mystical Indian/North American theme. Those giant mushrooms turned up with my last order from Wargames Foundry - and they work perfect as a strong hint that something strange is going on here. The totem came from Conquest, the musket from a Redoubt blister and the skull from GW skeletons. The rest is homebrewed.

And finally, two impressions of the games:
Game 1 - British rangers (down right) starting on boggy ground - and claimed it the reason for losing the first scenario!
Game 2 - French militia secure the mission house.

excellent work ,who makes the beast figure ive not seen that before.
-
Sorry, forgot to add that. It's simply a Wild War Chieftain from GW's Lord of the Rings range. Think it's a Perry sculpt, so I had to get it. ;)

Wow !
Excellent pics of my favourite era :-*
Perfect ! (Except that your LINK to your blog doesn't work because of the double http:// )

Thanks - and fixed! :)

Great stuff!
I love the markers and your imaginitive use of the Wild Warg "Chieftain". Despite the silly prices, they are lovely models and IMO worth having. Who makes the Priest? He looks a bit like an Essex Mini to me, but I didn't think they made one ...
The terrain and buildings etc are also very well done.
All in all, a fantastic looking game!
-
Fantastic stuff, love the beats vignette too. :)
Gluteus, the priest is c Conquest Miniatures figure I think. :)
-
Very cool stuff! The markers are excellent and fit perfectly on the table. A great source of inspiration!

Ah, thanks!
I have been meaning to order some Conquest stuff for ages, but inevitably as soon as I decide to, the exchange rate goes belly-up and makes it unfeasible >:(
Something to wait for, I think, as I'd love to get some woodland Indians.

Nick at Northstar stocks them, so no need to wait, you can have them now from Nottingham... ;) :)

That's very good news, but in some ways very bad news too ::)
Now I have no excuse not to buy them lol

Beautiful game boards. I really like how they capture the feel of a North American wilderness.
-
Looks ace, love the log-house!
Who makes the trees?
-
Thank you all for the nice comments! Always a source of motivation. :)
imurdentist, sadly I've no idea where I got those trees. Maybe it's NOCH. I was inapt to flock the leaved ones properly, so I only added carrageen from a local building centre. You could do better, for sure!
-
Very cool. I'll need to get me one of those beasts now. Did you convert the casualty figure on the base or does it come like that?
Somehow that priest reminds me of Chuck Norris in that first pic. o_o

It's part of the casting - meant to be a dead Rohirrim.
-
Really fantastic work! You've done a phenomenal job!

Gluteus Maximus has it. Only I've covered the victim's mail hauberk with green stuff in order to make him more 'timeless'.

Maybe he IS inspired by Chuck Norris. Although the miniature's hairdress (if not swallowed by f*** varnish) reminds me of Richard Chamberlain... o_o
Pete, once again I have to thank YOU for a great rule set! My humble additions are only miniatures and terrain. :D

Ha ha, awesome! You are so right! lol
I can now believe that he is the monster's master.
-
Somehow I don't think "Rodriguez, Vermont Missionary" would have been quite as popular as "Walker, Texas Ranger"....... ::)
-
Well, I just bought one of those warg beasts off ebay. I'll move the beast of the Gévaudan story a bit further back in time and add a horror element for my musketeer setting. Thanks for the inspiration! 8)

Cool! Looking forward to your report. :)

First LOTR figure I ever bought too. lol
-
Very nice setting and miniatures, like it! :-*
-
Got my copy of the miniature in the mean time. Amazing how close in size those LOR figures are to historical miniatures. Really makes you realise how big their warhammer figures have gotten.
Will hopefully start greenstuffing the clothes this weekend. :)
-
white knight, so true. I can still remember how I opened my first box of historical miniatures (some old Foundry stuff) and was shocked by their small size compared to GW toys I was used to. There was also great reluctance concerning actual size of the LotR miniatures when they were released for the first time - some people were very harsh because they couldn't use them along their GW stuff. How spoiled we are, sometimes. ;)
Anyway, would really like to see your interpretation soon. Always nice to see a silly idea spreading... ;D

Yes, happily the majority of the LOTR range is sculpted by the Perrys and apart from the very first of the Fellowship releases [tiny High Elves! >:( ], the later ones are pretty compatible with most 28mm ranges. Which is nice :D
I look forward to the results of your conversion.

Yup, pretty close to 28 mm 'natural' scale... go very well with pulp minis and the likes ;)

Well, it's not much, but here it is. I went for a general ECW/TYW/Musketeers look. Might redo the sash though as I did everything in one go and that didn't give me as much control of the putty, since the layer underneath wasstill soft.

Nice conversion WK. It's amazing how just a little bit of green stuff can change the wrong miniature into the right one.
-
That's looking very good and Op5 is right, it does transform it completely!
Maybe the ends of the sash need to dangle down a bit more, otherwise perfect.
-
What could I say? Much better than mine. :'(
Keep it coming!
-
Did some more work on this. Pretty much finished now, though I'm thinking about sculpting a hat to go on the base.

While I had the greenstuff out, used the rests of it to turn this old glory ECW casualty in a wounded musketeer/cardinal's guard.
