Title: This is not a Test project (Wasteland Safari 17/3/16)
Post by: exploding youth on October 23, 2015, 08:38:18 AM
So I got suckered into this is not a test somehow. It is basically Mordhiem in the Falloutverse, it isn't hard to see why that appeals  :D I somehow even talked my girlfriend into picking up a warband, which is a minor miracle! I plan to make ruined versions of all of our Knights of Dice buildings because art deco and fallout go together like dumplings and chilli oil

This'll be a catchall thread for my progress. Viv picked up two of these strange old vac formed 40k boards from somewhere and they were just sitting around the warehouse looking sorry for themselves. I decided they'd make a great starting point for a board post apoc board

First thing was to get rid of the god awful Aquila, so I cut a ruined foundation piece

Before giving the whole thing a gravel bath

and then some texture

Great start! The Buildings you want to use are really spot on. Do you plan to set the buildings only on the preset sockets or will you addition more platform for basegroundings?

I think I'll make some custom walls to fit the foundations on this board.  I plan on making a few other 4x4s so the more intact stuff will be for them

I picked up some guildball fishermen to use as my tribal warband,  going for a society that lives on an oilrig and worships the ocean. I think the guildball figs work pretty well for post apoc fishermen. I've armed them with spears, vials of poison(i figure some kinda blowfish poison) and spearguns to stick with the theme. The incursion heavy is my berzerker,  armed with a speargun and actuated gauntlent

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v488/exploding_youth/Mobile%20Uploads/20151023_220847-1.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/exploding_youth/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20151023_220847-1.jpg.html)

I still need to pick up two more of the fishermen for my rank and file guys, and decide what i am going to use as my warbeast. Any suggestions that fit the theme?

There are some nice fishy beasties in the Carnevale range that could fit, or maybe some of the Tilk figures from Reaper?

I haven't seen one of those old Vac-Cast Demo boards in YEARS!  lol Ahead of its time by a decade that was (and hideously grassed and prepainted when you got it).

Nice work!

Great start on the board and nice figures.

After the first picture I thought, "oh my, that eagle has to go. I hope he covers it with a building or something."
Then you did!
:D
Well played sir.

Our very own MessyArt has sculpted and sells Mirelurks. They are a fiddle to build, but the resin chaps look fantastic. See! (Painted by Wyrmalla)

Perhaps some rank and file a little more squishy? Mason (Blind Beggar Miniatures - http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=78821.0) has some hybrids. You could make them a little more tribal?

Or like obsidian suggested, some reaper deep ones?

Antimatter Games has a ton of models for their Deep Wars game that would fit this theme.  Here are a couple from my own collection:

Nice start on the board.

We are currently 2 games into a 4 player This is Not a Test campaign and it is going pretty well.

We are also using the Dice of Knights buildings a mate picked up at MOAB for one of the tables and it looks great. Could do with some ruins for sure, but still looks post-apoc enough.

My Outrider (sniper) is particularly enjoying the rooftop of the Mignola Ave building, which he has camped on for both the games, causing quite a bit mayhem.

I like the theme for your tribals, just be aware of the power of the Burst weapon, especially if you are a melee focused warband.

Some good suggestions in this thread.  Those mirelurks are essential!  I was planning on picking up this guy from eden to hire as a mutant eventually but maybe I'll use him as my warbeast

Hey you totally stole my idea!  :)  I am planning a similar project for the next official TNT table.  This time I am thinking South Beach in Miami or similar place in the south.  Swampy land full of half-sunk buildings.  Gators and fishmen fighting over the remains of a art deco wasteland.  Have to say, I have seen a lot of MDF buildings in my time, but yours are special. I'm a nut for all things art deco, so its not surprise I was drawn to the Fallout end of the post apocalypse.  Can't wait to get my initial allotment in November.  Since you guys are working on the post-apocalypse side of things, maybe some conversion pieces, such as internal stars with art deco railings, floor inserts, that kind of thing for those of use who want to access the interiors a little bit.  Just a thought.  Keep up the cool project.

That sounds great! If i go to the trouble of making ruined versions i don't see why we wouldn't put them in the store.

We built this bayou table for malifaux back when i worked at an flgs, might be some ideas for you to steal there!  Wish we still had it but we sold it back then for a decent sum.

Wow that swamp board has delicious details, you have paid so much attention to it, :-* and it shows!!

I was really impressed by knights of dice at MOAB, I very nearly picked up some, I think I will some of those ac units

I'll be looking forward to how this progresses.

Cheers

Thanks for the swamp pictures, very inspiring.  My one challenge is that everything will have to be movable on bases, so no actual sunken areas.  I think I can pull it off, it just prevents the deep water resin that makes your table pop!

Made a lil progress on the board. Basic colour layed down and I got a bit excited about the toxic pools so I went and did the now lol. I also picked up some in scale caravans for my Girlfriends caravaners and we packed them big piles of goods on top and post-apoc bits and pieces. I'll chuck some pics up later tonight.

Finished off and primed some literal caravans for my girlfriends caravaners, as well as a nice wasteland ride (not very fallout-ey, but I figure this project could use a healthy mix of mad max in there too)

Would love to see some pics of the building out in the wild if you have any!

Unfortunately the lighting in my mate's shed is awful - so no pics.

Those caravans are amazing, loving all the crap on top. Are they going to be pulled by something other than a car?

They're the K-Mart one's right, that come with a car?

Thought they looked a little large in the shop, but you have proved me wrong.

The car is ace too!  :-*

They are the Kmart ones, scale really nicely I think.

There is a piece of artwork in the TnT rulebook that has a large elk or moose pulling a cart, I think I'll try to find a suitabe toy to use as a mutant beast

I found them lying around at K-Mart here in Melbourne:

The car that it comes with is too small but the caravans are about right

Started colouring in.  Tried the salt technique for the first time on the car. It looks okay i guess. I want to use it on the caravans too anyone have any tips on getting the best results?

 :o very cool!  8)

No way is that caravan 1:64 as advertised.. funny the discovery it comes with is. ??? ???

What heavy laden caravans, keep her on the road and off the dunes mate, wouldn't want them getting bogged. I'd wager you may need some spare log axles (Bush mechanics style) for when those snap under the weight ;) )

The camaro came out a treat. 1:43 model car? I'd put more dirt on the back/wheel arches and in some crevases where it's settled from dust clouds while driving.

My rust painting technicue is to paint the faded colour first, get that perfect then add snakebite leather washes, and then neat beastial Brown stippling inside those areas then stipple 50black 50 beastial Brown.

For the caravans will you do the salt method again? With off white? Perhaps some colour stripes to differentiate them?

Cheers
Matt

The camero was billed as 1:32 also but it looks only slighty larger than 1:43 to me. Whatever it works haha. Yeah the caravans are going to be off white with turquoise sections. As for the axels, a psychic did it  :D

Wonderful find!  Love those commuter/subway cars.  I wouldn't have been able to say know if I'd found them.  Very jealous of the terrain you will make even if you haven't started yet :) .

Done a bit more work on lots of things. I'll try to update later in the week. In the meantime, deltadog was kind enough to share some print files to provide my war leader with a tasty beverage

Really nice paintjob on these machines! The Formlabs has really made a perfect surface!
For the next machines if you want. I´ve done the Nuka machine hollow right up in the top to bring a LED light for the Topscreen and a Battery with wires for it inside. Its Christmas we all want some lights around ;-) lol

Very nice looking table! And very good weathering on that bus.    :-*
Really sad that all of these excellent buildings are not available for sale from some European based company.

You set the bar high both for inspiration and quality with this warband. Hope to see them in an AAR with the rest of your wonderful kit.

Had our first campaign game last week, my Tribals managed to sneak a victory despite taking heavy causalities and not taking any of my opponent's fighters. Luckily I only suffered one death, Vladamir "The Drowned", my berserker (though in my fluff "The Drowned" are sacrifices to the sea, fitted with diving bell helmets and hopped up on blowfish poison, so it seems fitting). My Tribal rep managed to uncover a nest of walking mudcats, who were tamed and now join my roster. Hastily painted up "Sugar, Jaguar and Pony" before my game tonight, so they are a bit rushed

And the "Cronenberg" joke is clever, but "Shinya Tsukamoto" would have been better.  ;)

Some pics from last weeks game. We played the "pest control" scenario. My Tribals won against Irish's Peacekeepers pretty convincingly, but the game was brutal. Luckily neither of us lost any members post game, and we both got some decent loot and xp.
